ENERGIZE RXS (THYROID SUPPORT) PRODUCT OVERVIEW WHAT IS ENERGIZE RXS? Energize RxS is a complex, carefully constructed product with 30 homeopathic ingredients that support patients with thyroid dysfunction. It can be used alone to optimize and support thyroid function; it works together with prescription medications or natural remedies to support hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism protocols. WHAT IS THYROID DYSFUNCTION? The butterfly-‐shaped thyroid gland sits on either side of the neck just above the collarbone. The hormones it releases regulate metabolic function and affect many body systems. Thyroid dysfunction can be one of two types: Hypothyroidism (not enough thyroid hormone) or hyperthyroidism (too much thyroid hormone). About 12 million people in the US (6% of the population) have thyroid dysfunction. It is estimated that 9.6 million have hypothyroidism and 2.6 million have hyperthyroidism. As the population ages, thyroid dysfunction increases. 1 Most people with thyroid dysfunction have hypothyroidism. One cause of hypothyroidism is removal of the thyroid gland, often due to thyroid cancer. As thyroid cancer rates increase,2 many more people have their thyroid gland removed, thus increasing the number of people who must take thyroid replacement medications. Even when the thyroid is not completely removed, damage to it from radiation or chemotherapy may cause hypothyroidism. In addition to thyroid gland removal or damage, there are many other possible causes of hypothyroidism: • Autoimmune disorders • Genetic susceptibility • Radiation/environmental toxicity (in medical procedures and environmentally) • Fluoride and other chemicals • Synthetic and genetically engineered hormones (birth control pills, hormones in animal proteins) Not as many people suffer from hyperthyroidism, where the thyroid gland produces too much thyroid hormone. However, the carefully constructed formula for Energize RxS helps to regulate either type of thyroid dysfunction. WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF HYPOTHYROIDISM? The symptoms of hypothyroidism usually develop slowly over a long period of time (unless the thyroid is surgically removed or otherwise damaged; then symptoms are immediate). They are often misdiagnosed www.desbio.com 469 Parkland Drive • Sandy, UT 84070 ph 801-‐563-‐7448 • fax 801-‐563-‐7455 Energize RxS: Homeopathic Facts Dose: 10 drops under the tongue, three times daily Doses Per Container: Approximately 90 Thyroidinum ................................... 6X 12X 30X 200X 12C 30C 60C 200C Triiodothyronine ............................. 6X 12X 30X 200X 12C 30C 60C 200C Pulsatilla ............................................................................................ 12X Mutabile Bach .................................................................................... 30C Fucus Vesiculoisis ................................................................................ 6X Viscum Album ...................................................................................... 3X Cochicum Autumnale .......................................................................... 6X Tyramine ......................................... 6X 12X 30X 200X 12C 30C 60C 200C Galium Aparine .................................................................................... 6X Mercuius .......................................................................... 60X 100X 200X Gaertner Bach .................................................................................... 30C Conium Maculatum ............................................................................. 6X Calcarea Fluorica ............................................................................... 12X Phenyl Isothiocyanate .................... 6X 12X 30X 200X 12C 30C 60C 200C Iodium .............................................................................. 3X 6X 12X 30X Cortisone Aceticum ........................................................................... 30X DHEA ............................................... 6X 12X 30X 200X 12C 30C 60C 200C Funiculus Umbilicus Suis ........................................................ 8X 12X 30X Medulla Ossis Suis ................................................................. 8X 12X 30X Spleen Suis ............................................................................. 8X 12X 30X Thymus Suis ........................................................................... 8X 12X 30X Pineal Gland Suis ................................................................... 8X 12X 30X ATP ....................................................................................................... 7X Fumaricum Acidum .............................................................................. 7X Malic Acidum ....................................................................................... 7X Sarcolactic Acid .................................................................................... 3X Spongia Tosta .................................................................................... 12X Hepar Suis .............................................................................. 8X 12X 30X Natrum Oxalaceticum .......................................................................... 6X Viscum Album ...................................................................................... 3X or missed because they are seemingly unrelated or may be attributed to aging. Thyroid dysfunction, particularly hypothyroidism, occurs most often in people who have the following conditions: • Female • Over 50 • Received radiation to neck or upper chest • Hormone upheaval (pregnancy, menopause) • Thyroid removal or damage from chemotherapy or radiation • Autoimmune disorder or close relative with autoimmune disorder Lupus, an autoimmune disorder, seems to be related to thyroid dysfunction. About 6% of those with lupus have hypothyroidism, and about 2% have hyperthyroidism. 3 Those who have family members with thyroid dysfunction have a slightly increased risk of developing it. There is also a strong possibility of developing thyroid dysfunction if a family member has any kind of autoimmune disorder. 4 If other family members have thyroid dysfunction or autoimmune disorders, one should consider using Energize RxS. IS THYROID DYSFUNCTION AN AUTOIMMUNE DISORDER? Many scientists and researchers think so. Many people with thyroid dysfunction have Hashimoto’s disease, a type of hypothyroidism where the immune system attacks the thyroid gland. Others have Graves’ disease, a type of autoimmune disorder that causes hyperthyroidism. People with both of these diseases and any other thyroid dysfunction can benefit by optimizing immune system function and balancing thyroid hormone output with Energize RxS. WHAT OTHER KINDS OF THYROID PROBLEMS HAPPEN? In addition to autoimmune disorders that cause thyroid problems, there are other ways that the thyroid or body can malfunction, resulting in not enough thyroid hormone being available for use by the body. For example, the thyroid gland produces a hormone called T4, which the body must convert into another hormone called T3 to be used. Sometimes the body is unable to convert T4 into T3. In other cases, the body creates too much of another unusable hormone called reverse T3, or the pituitary gland may be unable to produce enough thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), causing secondary hypothyroidism. The adrenal gland must also be functioning properly for enough thyroid hormone to be produced and utilized by the body. Energize RxS contains ingredients that support all these types of thyroid dysfunction. HOW IS THYROID DYSFUNCTION DIAGNOSED? Many blood tests are available to test thyroid hormone levels, such as T4, T3, TSH, reverse T3, and thyroid www.desbio.com 469 Parkland Drive • Sandy, UT 84070 ph 801-‐563-‐7448 • fax 801-‐563-‐7455 antibodies. However, there are no tests available for T2 and T1. These lab tests only get a snapshot of what is happening in the body at that particular point in time. Thyroid hormone levels fluctuate constantly throughout the day and throughout the month for women. To get a better picture of thyroid function, practitioners can use a combination of a physical exam, including monitoring body temperature, and carefully noting symptoms. 5 Another problem with laboratory testing is that “normal” thyroid hormone values may not be the optimal values for everyone. For example, in 2002, normal TSH standards were established as 0.5 – 5 mIU/L. However, many endocrinologists have found that 0.3 – 2.5 mIU/L is more indicative of healthy thyroid function. Even outside these levels, many patients experience thyroid problems, or subclinical hypothyroidism. This means that many more people than are currently diagnosed are suffering from thyroid dysfunction. WHAT KINDS OF MEDICATIONS DO PEOPLE WITH HYPOTHYROIDISM TAKE? Thyroid medications contain thyroid hormones to replace the hormones that are not being created or used by the body. Most medications only replace T4, which the body must then convert to T3. Synthetic medications may be more difficult for the body to convert to T3, while natural remedies seem to convert more easily. Synthroid, a generic synthetic thyroid hormone replacement, was the 4th most prescribed drug in 2010, with 70.5 million prescriptions written. 6 The types of medications or remedies that people with hypothyroidism take to support thyroid function are as follows: • Prescription medications containing levothyroxine (T4), such as Levothroid, Levoxyl, or Synthroid • Prescription medications containing liotrix (T3 and T4), such as Euthroid, Thyrolar, or Westhroid • Prescription medications containing liothyronine (T3), such as Cytomel • Medications containing dessicated thyroid such as Armour, NaturThroid • Nutritional, botanical, and glandular remedies such as those containing iodine, selenium, l-‐tyrosine, or raw tissue extract of endocrine glands. Energize RxS can help the body respond better to natural interventions and prescription medications. Its combination of homeopathic ingredients regulates and optimizes these substances.
