Background:
In partnership with the Ministry of International Cooperation, the second phase of the project “Support
to the North West Coast Development Plan and Relevant Mine Action” builds on the accomplishments
realized during the first phase, to strengthen the national capacities to address Mine Action in Egypt,
through the provision of relevant tools and mechanisms; reintegrate mine victims into the economy as
productive community members; and support the continuation of mine clearance operations in line with
the National Development Plan of the North West Coast. Phase II was launched with a new contribution
agreement with the European Union. Through the project, the UNDP provides technical expertise and
support through a combination of in-country technical assistance, visiting consultations, support to
capacity development (including south-south study tours, participation in international conferences and
workshops, and placements at relevant international training facilities) and assistance with resource
mobilization and fund management.
Duties and Responsibilities
Summary of Key Functions:
Manage media and press relations:



Supporting the formulation follow up and implementation of communications and advocacy
strategy and media plan.
Maintaining information database and photo library and conducts research and retrieval of
relevant data from domestic, external and international sources.
Suggesting inputs, developing content, coordinating production and dissemination of press
releases, publications, articles and sharing of Exec Sec knowledge and successes.




Retrieving and submitting for the knowledge of the Project Director and relevant staff members
all media coverage on activities of Exec Sec, Mines problem in Egypt, Matrouh and other relevant
subjects.
Establishing and updating profiles of journalists and writers interested in issues of relevance and
keeping continuous working good relations with members of the press community.
Building and keeping updated, a data base pertinent to relevant Private Sector, Nongovernmental Organizations, local and international, potential stakeholders and partners within
Egyptian public entities involved or being interested in the demining and development of the
NWC.
Preparing inputs to and updates of outreach/publicity material geared towards partners and
donors.
Oversee and maintain country-level online outreach and produces information materials for public
outreach:



Supporting the increased awareness of the Exec Sec mandate and goals through dissemination of
information and the organization of public events and promotional opportunities, providing the
logistical support required.
Developing, and drafting, in Arabic and English, materials for promotion and preparing awarenessraising including briefing materials and press releases.
Assuming the responsibility, in cooperation with Information Management Director, of updating
the Exec Sec web site, ensuring that the information posted on the web constantly reflects the
activities conducted, abiding by the lines of the communications strategy and media plan of the
Exec Sec.
Manage Mine Risk Education (MRE) Portfolio:





Following up and assessing the impact of Mine Risk Education Activities including MRE Campaigns
and Train of Trainers.
Following up and assessing the impact of Exec Sec media campaigns and promotions.
Establishing and updating profiles of journalists and writers interested in issues of relevance and
keeping continuous working good relations with members of the press community.
Building and keeping updated, a data base pertinent to relevant Private Sector, Nongovernmental Organizations, local and international, potential stakeholders and partners within
Egyptian public entities involved or being interested in the demining and development of the
NWC.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
A university degree in International Relations, Political Science, Economics or media-related field.
Experience:
At least 3 years of relevant experience at the national and/ or international levels in international
development issues required, including in applied research and impact evaluation;
Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages, experience in handling of web
based management systems.
Language Requirements:
Fluency in Arabic & English is required. Knowledge of other UN Official Languages will be considered an
asset.
