De Hoog Orchideeën
Since 1928, De Hoog Orchideeën
has cultivated chrysanthemums,
roses, freesias, strelitzias and
cymbidium. In 1990, they began
cultivating Dendrobium Nobile.
With the construction of the new
premises in Pijnacker (2008),
Van Zaal supplied a container
transport- and deliverysystem.
Modern technology in the area
of lighting and cooling make it
possible to supply Dendrobium
Nobile all year long.
In 2012, the company began
constructing a new building
in
Delfgauw.
Van
Zaal
again supplied a Container
Transportsystem with more than

cultivation in the cooling area.
We will also supply a Container
Lift, an Overhead Stacker and
two Overhead Transporters.
The
Overhead Transporter
consists of a ‘mother and baby’
crane, whereby the baby crane
can drive into the bay of a
greenhouse and select specific
containers – which makes the
system very flexible.
For crop protection, Van Zaal
will install a Spraying Unit on a
modified container. With the aid
of the baby crane, the Spraying
Unit can spray any container in
the greenhouse. After stacking,
the plants are sorted by an Aris
camera system and placed in
the containers by two Mobile
Pick up and Put Down Robots.
For control, visualisation and
communication of the various
mechanical systems, Van Zaal
installed an ISAL software
system.

Certification
Van Zaal VCA** certificate
In Dutch, VCA stands for the Safety,
Health and Environmental checklist for contractors. It is designed
to promote safety on the job and
reduce the number of accidents.
This versatile scheme tests com-
panies extensively, professionally
and thoroughly and certifies them
according to their Safety, Health
and Environmental management
systems. On 26 September last,
Van Zaal received VCA** certifi-
cation, which was issued by the
Netherlands Certification Office.
Many principals prefer to do business with VCA-certified companies. Van Zaal is very pleased with
the fact that this certification takes
away the concerns in this area for
its customers.

Van der Salm
Gebroeders Van der Salm BV
is a modern company located
in Boskoop. They specialise
in Lavender cultivation. The
brothers Hans and Paul van
der Salm, then still in their
20s, established the company
in the late 1980s. In the years
that followed they invested
in greenhouses, an ebb-andflood cultivation system, plant
robots and delivery lines. As of
2012, the company has its own
breeding and test station. The
aim is to grow even stronger
plants with less use of pesticides.
Van Zaal is currently expanding
the automation by means of
an Overhead Stacker and a
Container
Washer.
In
collaboration with Crea-Tech,
a pot robot that loads the 17
+ 19-cm pots lengthwise in a
six metre container has been
installed. Besides utilising much
less floor space, this technique
loads more plants in the
container per rotation, which is

Also at home?
Van Zaal is increasingly expanding its activities in the area of
supplying and installing Solar
panels. With many years of expertise and experience in large-scale
projects, for example in Kenya
and also in the Netherlands, we
understand better than most
how to install Solar panels in private homes – expertly, quickly
and inexpensively.

Schoenmakers
Schoenmakers Tropical Pot
Cultures is a customer of Van
Zaal in the areas of heating
and internal transport. For the
branch in Haaren, Van Zaal
supplied an Overhead Stacker
and a Sandwich Washer to
complete the new working area,
as well as making modifications
in
the
existing
internal
transportsystem. In cooperation
with Aris, Crea-Tech fitted the
spacing line with an innovative
technique that increased the
capacity to 6,000 pots per hour.

rather beneficial for this large
pot size. Close consultation
between the customer and
Van Zaal, along with the use of
smart applications, enables the
various actions to be combined
and automated. Savings in
labour, time and space result in a
much more efficient production
process.

North Holland
H&M Flowers, a tulip grower in
Wervershoof, has been a Van Zaal
customer for over 10 years. During that period, the internal transportsystem has kept pace with
developments in the company.
In combination with Zwirs Greenhouse Construction, Multilayer
cultivation and a Container Lift is
now being installed in the work
area, as a means of expanding
breeding capacity.
In Obdam, Borst Bloembollen BV
previously opted for a flexible
system (potting soil and water
breeding) with ‘narrow’ 60-cm
containers, which enables picking
on a single side. Van Zaal recently
installed a second layer with three
fast Container Lifts, two of which
with lifting frame, so that containers can be transported simultaneously and independently of each
other at both levels. With more
than 3,500 containers on two culture layers, Borst can deliver more
than 5.5 million bulbs per batch.

Holland bulb projects are
