WELCOME!
STEP 1: CONNECT AUDIO/VIDEO SOURCE
Thank you for buying the SlingboxTM AV. Follow these instructions to connect your new Slingbox
and start watching your TV programs wherever you go.
Not a user-guide-type person? Then visit www.slingmedia.com/quickstart. There you will find
helpful videos that will guide you and get you on your way.
A
Quick Start Guide
Remove the Slingbox (B) from the box and place near your audio/video source.
The audio/video source could be a cable/satellite box, DVR or DVD player (please visit
www.slingbox.com for a list of supported devices). You may want to examine the back
panel of the Slingbox to familiarize yourself with the inputs.
STEP 2: CONNECT THE REMOTE CONTROL IR CABLE
Remove the remote control IR cable from the A/V Pack (C). Connect the remote control
IR cable to the IR connector on the Slingbox.
Open the A/V Pack (C) and remove the composite A/V cable and the S-Video cable.
Connect your audio/video source to the Slingbox connection labeled A/V INPUT using
the composite A/V cable.
Place the remote control IR cable heads on the top and bottom of your cable/satellite
box or DVR so they point at its IR sensor. Make sure they extend out far enough over the
front of the device to send a signal to your cable/satellite box or DVR. You may want to affix
the remote control IR cable using the adhesive pads after installing the Setup Wizard
software in Step 5.
If there is an S-Video output connection available, connect using the S-Video cable.
This will provide the best quality video playback.
The remote control IR cable allows the Slingbox to act as a universal remote, controlling
the device you connect to it. The cable allows you to use your device’s menus and guides.
STEP 3: CONNECT TO YOUR NETWORK
STEP 4: CONNECT POWER SOURCE
Open the Power/Network Pack (D) and remove the Ethernet cable. Plug one end of the
Ethernet cable into the Slingbox connection labeled NETWORK. Connect the other end to
your home network.
Remove the power adapter from the Power/Network Pack (D). Connect the power
adapter into the Slingbox connection labeled POWER. Plug the power adapter into
an electrical outlet.
The Slingbox works with any high-speed
Internet connection or broadband home
network. You must have a router to
use the Slingbox.
When plugged in, the power light comes on, and the lights blink a few times as the
Slingbox starts up. The network light remains on if your Slingbox has been recognized
by your router as a new device on your network.

flashlight through the window and look for a small bulb similar
to the one on the end of the remote control cable.

setting to allow the Slingbox as a device on your network.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Before you begin, make sure your computer is on the same network as your Slingbox.
1. If the power light is not on:
Disconnect the power cable from the Slingbox and the power outlet and
reconnect them, making sure that they are secure.
Windows users: Insert the supplied CD-ROM (E) into your computer and run the Setup
Wizard. If the installation doesn’t automatically start, run the SlingPlayerSetup.exe file
on the installation CD-ROM.
2. If the network light is off:
Disconnect the Ethernet cable from the back of the Slingbox and insert it.
You will hear a click when it is fully inserted.
Macintosh users: Please go to www.slingplayer.com/mac to download the latest
installation software.
STEP 6: USING YOUR SLINGBOX
Congratulations! You are now ready to enjoy your television entertainment on your PC, Mac,
PDA* or mobile phone*—located at home or 3,000 miles away—via the Internet. Thanks to
the Slingbox, you can enjoy your home TV programming wherever you are—the office, a
hotel room, your garden, even the bathroom—anywhere there is an Internet connection.
Watch and control your television anytime, anywhere—the power is in your hands.
Do the same with the other end of the Ethernet cable, making sure that it is
attached to your router, optional SlingLink, or optional wireless game adapter.
Make sure your router and/or wireless game adapter is on the same network
as your Slingbox.
3. If the network light is blinking:
Press and hold the reset button on the back of the Slingbox for five seconds.
The lights on the front of the Slingbox quickly flash from left to right, then flash
slowly. This resets the Slingbox to factory settings.
Turn your router off and back on again. Note: most routers do not have on/off
switches. You may be required to unplug and plug the router back into the
power source.
4. The Setup Wizard and the SlingPlayer application do not discover the Slingbox
on your network:
Some firewall security software blocks the Slingbox from being recognized on
your home network. If this occurs, you need to change your security software
setting to allow the Slingbox as a device on your network.
5. You don’t see your audio/video source while installing software:
Check that the Ethernet cable is attached and power and network lights are
solid and not blinking.
Re-check the cable connections between your A/V devices and the Slingbox.
Make sure the cables are fully inserted into the connectors on the back of the
Slingbox. The cables should fit snugly.
6. The Setup Wizard and the SlingPlayer application are not controlling
your device:
Make sure the remote control IR cable is fully inserted.
