With today’s rigid requirements for safety in the workplace,
companies are continually looking for high quality,
heavy duty products which can meet and exceed industry
safety requirements.
The NHP/NTW series 55.4 trip-wire switch (or lanyard switch) is one
of the only switches of its type on the Australian market which is
designed and manufactured in Australia to specifically cope with the
harsh realities of Australian Industry and meet according standards
(AS 1755-1986).
This has been particularly the case within the mining and
construction industry where features such as rugged cast aluminium
housing, standard IP 65/67 dust and water resistance and non-ferrous
component construction have made the NTW 55.4 the number
one choice.
The NTW heavy duty trip-wire switch has been designed for use with
conveyors or where it is desired to protect a large area with the use
of only one emergency safety switch. Offering both left and right
hand operation the NTW 55.4 will operate with a force not exceeding
70 newtons and with optional supports and tension springs can
cover an area of over 100 metres (maximum) in both directions.
The NTW 55.4 is supplied standard with a padlocking facility to
prevent unauthorised operation, flag indicator and exclusive self
wiping 1 normally open / 1 normally closed silver contacts, with the
option of 2 normally open / 2 normally closed and gold contacts
available on request. For safety applications it is also worth noting
that the normally closed contact cannot be broken without the
switch having been in the tripped position.
A wide range of accessories and switch options including single
sided operation, key lock-out facility, pilot light, cover with clear glass
viewing window and the availability of a Dust excluding ignition
proof variation ensures that there is a trip-wire switch available to suit
the majority of applications.
NHP’s commitment to
Australian manufacturing
As a 100% Australian owned company, NHP offer a product range
that is engineered and manufactured by Australians to suit local
conditions. Accordingly NHP have developed the NHP Austrol
range of heavy duty control and signalling equipment to cater for
the various requirements experienced in Australian industry.

Contact block features
• Non ferrous components used throughout
• Separate unique self cleaning contacts with IP 20 finger protection

Every time you operate an NHP Austrol trip-wire switch you can be assured of a positive
response. Why? Because every NHP Austrol contact block is constructed with durability and
dependability in mind.
With each and every operation the fine silver or gold contacts are cleaned by an exclusive
rolling, wiping action between the moving and stationary contacts as they make or break
the surface. This action removes any dust or non-conductive film that may be present and
thus ensures a longer working life.
Exclusive wiping contacts.
Non ferrous and IP 20 protection.

Method of installation
Double sided operation
1.Firmly mount switch in the centre of the proposed trip-wire run.
Up to 100 metres per side is permissible.
2. Position wire supports at approximately 4.5 metre spacing.
3.Fit tension spring (Cat. No. 55.2.46) at each end of wire run. This allows operation via a pull on the wire in any direction.
Without the spring a pull along the wire axis towards the switch will not operate the unit.
4.Run the wire and fit end thimbles and clamps. Remove any wire coating in clamp area and thimble to ensure the
end loop is slip free.
5.With the wire connected at both ends pull firmly between supports to take up initial stretch.
6.Adjust the turnbuckles so that the operating lever is centred in the middle of the operating cam.
Friction in the wire supports will create a deadband and it will be necessary to approximate the centre.
7.Check for correct electrical operation when the wire is pulled.
Note:
Single sided operation, left or right hand, available factory fitted only.
