Job Purpose /
Objective
You will be responsible for the successful delivery of numeracy and
literacy accredited qualifications that form part of the Further
Education programme offer and for supporting learners on an
apprenticeship programme to gain their functional skills in Numeracy,
Literacy and ICT.
Specific Duties
As a Specialist Functional Skills Tutor you will guide and support the
learner right throughout their journey
You will;
• Use appropriate Initial Interview to assist learners identify their
existing skills, work experience, interests and job goals.
• Using the Diagnostic Assessment material, assess levels of
competency within literacy and numeracy.
• Negotiate, design and implement an Individual Learning Plan with
each learner. Regularly assess, monitor, review, evaluate and adjust
the Individual Learning Plan when necessary, taking into account the
new Basic Skills Infrastructure.
• Prepare and adapt teaching materials including hand outs,
assignments, booklists and assessment papers, to enable all learners
to progress.
• Create new learning material to meet the needs of the learner.
• Prepare Schemes of Work and Schemes of Assessment.
• Produce and deliver appropriate individual and group exercises in
order to achieve the Individual Training Plan.
• Assist learner to produce work, in accordance with City & Guilds
Standards for numeracy, literacy and ICT
• Assist learners to realise life and employability goals
You will also support the training team in your region by:
• Adapting and developing teaching resources for the teaching of
Functional Skills in the Apprenticeship and Foundation Framework.
• Identifying and supporting learners with special learning and special
needs.
• Providing information, advice and guidance to assessors
• Delivering Functional Skills across the training centres and deliver
training as required in the work place.
• Supporting the assessors to enable them to support the delivery of
basic skills to meet each of their learners needs.
• Invigilate exams when needed.
• Keep up to date with basic skills/functional skills developments and
maintain partnerships with other local agencies and providers.
General Duties
• Comply with and complete all relevant company paperwork
• Comply with statutory and company policies and procedures
• Work collaboratively with all members of the Parenta team
• Abide by Ofsted, QCF and company regulations at all times,
ensuring that portfolios and learner files satisfy awarding body
criteria.
• Actively participate in, and promote, the safeguarding of children,
young people and vulnerable adults.
• Practice and promote the importance of equal opportunities and
diversity considerations, both for learners, and within the workplace.
• Attend bi-monthly team meetings and standardisation meetings
• Keep up to date with changes to national standards
• Work towards further professional qualifications to enhance skills
and knowledge.
• Organise and maintain a CPD file, ensuring current occupation
competence is up to date and recorded.
