Regulation
1015(1)
Type Airworthiness Management
1015(1) The TAA shall be responsible for the Type Airworthiness of
an air system throughout its life from development to
disposal.
Acceptable
Means of
Compliance
1015(1)
Type Airworthiness Management
1.
Each Platform Project Team (PT) should have a senior project engineer who is
nominated as the TAA for each aircraft type or group of aircraft types. The TAA
should be at least B1/OF5 grade.
2.
The TAA should hold a Letter of Airworthiness Authority (LoAA) from the
Operating Centre Director (OCD) and must be Suitably Qualified Experienced
Personnel (SQEP), who may or may not be the PT Leader.
3.
The TAA should ensure that the platform type meets all applicable
airworthiness regulatory requirements through-life, including all civil mandatory,
advisory and deferred instructions (e.g. Airworthiness Directives (ADs) and Service
Bulletins) for civil type aircraft.
4.
The TAA should ensure that only competent Design Organizations (DO),
compliant with RA1005(1) are contracted in support of their platforms, and that the DO
has access to the Type Design data.

5.
For air systems which have been awarded a Military Type Certificate by the
MAA, the TAA should be the Military Type Certificate Holder.

Type Airworthiness Management
6.
The TAA is responsible for:
a.
Managing, on behalf of the OCD, airworthiness activity of an air system
during its development.
b.
Compiling certification evidence to support military type certification/
Release to Service Recommendation (RTSR)/Release to Service (RTS).
c.
The completeness and accuracy of the Approved Data, including all
elements of the ►Air System Document Set (ADS)◄, and the upkeep of the
Type Design.
d.
Developing, maintaining and enhancing a Safety Management System,
compliant with the OCD approved project airworthiness strategy, which will
contribute to the Operating Duty Holder’s (ODH’s) Air System Safety Case for
each type.
e.
Ensuring that appropriate action is taken in response to airworthiness
issues including, but not limited to, the issuing of Technical Instructions, and
recommending to the OCD the stoppage of, or major restriction to, of flying.

f.
Collecting, investigating and analysing reports of and information related
to, failures, malfunctions, defects or other occurrences to confirm that the type
design remains airworthy.
g.
Informing the type designer, other operators and the MAA of the outcome
of any investigation into a significant airworthiness occurrence.
h.
Maintaining the Structural, Propulsion and Systems Integrity of the
platform type through life including regular review of the actual usage and inservice experience against the design assumptions.
i.
Ensuring that there is adequate co-ordination between design and
production organizations.
j.
Acceptance of build deviations from design, by tail number.
k.
Retaining, or having access to, all relevant design information, drawings,
build information and test & inspection reports to provide the information needed
to support the safety argument that underpins Type Airworthiness.
l.
Ensuring timely update and communication of changes to the ►Air
System Document Set (ADS)◄.
m.
The provision of modifications necessitated by in-service experience or
as requested by the DHs for safety, operational, or economic reasons.
n.
The competency assessment and sub-delegation of elements of
airworthiness authority within their Platform PT to relevant PT staff, where
necessary, by means of a LoAA. Such LoAAs may be given only to individuals
who require airworthiness authority to alter Approved Data and the ADS without
reference to higher authority.
o.
