Submit four (4) copies of the plot plan along with two (2) sets of blueprints to the building commissioner’s office in the Town Hall. The application for the permit should be completed at this time.

We require a minimum 48 HOURS to review the application, plot plans and blueprints, if everything is in order the building permit will be issued.

A building permit must be picked up. Permits will not be mailed.

The building permit shall be posted in conspicuous location, visible from the street, on the premises, and shall remain in place during the entire period of construction.

The building permit becomes void if visible construction or an inspection has not been done within a year.

The Building Commissioner must approve any changes or deviations made from the original application. In some cases a new building permit may be required.

A Temporary stone construction entrance must be installed and maintained in conjunction with the initial grading operations.

Erosion control must be installed and maintained on site. 8.

Trash and debris containments are required for each lot under construction. Burying or burning trash or debris on construction site is strictly prohibited.

Restroom facility (port-o-let or equivalent) shall be provided within every four hundred feet (400) of each lot under construction.

For all building inspection, call in 24 HOURS ADVANCE NOTICE. Phone number

(317) 852-1128. All required inspections are listed on the permit card.

Special reminder on some inspection: a.

Footing – Needs to be inspected before they are poured. b.

Foundation – Needs to be inspected before it is backfilled.

1 st Underslab – Basement floor or slab on grade needs to be inspected prior to backfill for plumbing and conduit.

2 nd Underslab – Basement floor or slab on grade needs to be inspected after the backfill, thicken areas, and vapor retard prior to pouring of concrete.

Rough-In – Structural, HVAC, Plumbing and Electrical all need to be inspected before the insulation is put in. The fireplace will be inspected at this time. The electrical panel cover must be removed at time of inspection.

Insulation – Needs to be done prior to drywall being installed.

Final – Includes grading and sidewalk inspection. Note: The water meter lid, and manholes must be at proper grade and not covered. This is when

Certificate of Occupancy is issued. h.

Sewer – Needs to be inspected before it is covered back over with dirt.

Failure to follow these procedures will result in your project being red tagged.

The structure shall not be occupied until all inspections have been made and approved and a certificate of occupancy has been issued.

Failure to comply with the Town of Brownsburg Procedures could result in penalties. Under

Chapter 15, Section 155.320-155.323 of the Brownsburg Town Ordinances:

No person, firm, or corporation, whether as owner lessee, sublessee or occupant, shall erect, construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, improve, remove, demolish, equip, use, occupy, or maintain any building or premised, or cause or permit the same to be done, contrary to or in violation of any of the provisions of this ordinance or any order issued by the Building

Commissioner. Any person violating the provisions of this ordinance may be fined in the amount not to exceed two thousand five hundred dollars ($2,500.00) for each day such violation continues. (Ord. No. 87-5 and Ord. 92-25)
