MAGNETIC EQUIPMENTS FOR FERROUS ELEMENTS SEPARATION STATIC (ELECTRO)MAGNETIC SEPARATOR EP - SMP www.gaussmagneti.it The protection electromagnets EP and the permanent magnet plates (SMP) are static equipment for iron separation: their purpose is to extract iron particles from a flow of inert material holding it tightly till the operator carries out its detachment. The permanent magnet plate SMP are made of a circuit in soft iron with low carbon tenor and a group of permanent magnets in Sr-ferrite. The lower plate face is made of 12% manganese antimagnetic and wear resistant steel. The magnetic field geometry in plates SMP has normally 3 poles with a central core and two side ones. For a highest extraction yield, the inert material flow should be perpendicular to the 3 poles line. Respect to the conveyor: • dimension L must be crosswise • dimension A must be lengthwise • dimension S joint to dimension A gives the extracting force at distance H In particular cases, plates SMP can be made of neodymium (Nd-Fe-B) permanent magnets. Electromagnetic plates EP have same purpose and installation features as permanent magnet plates. The difference lies there, that in EPs the magnetic field is generated by an internal electric coil. The electric power turns into magneto motive force which generates the magnetic flux. The magnetic circuit is made of high permeability soft iron and the coil - fed by continuous current - of copper or aluminium with grade C insulation. An electric board is also supplied for magnet control. The lower electromagnet face is made of 12% Mn antimagnetic steel. OPERATION Iron is attracted and hold by the active face. In plates SMP, ferrous pieces must be detached manually from face A, while it is more difficult from face L. In electromanetic plates EP, ferrous pieces have to be detached by switching voltage off from the electric board.
