Tropical World In general Roundhay Park • Always abide by the Highway Code. • Ride to your own ability. • Look all around when making a manoeuvre and signal clearly. • In daytime wear bright clothes. At night use lights and reflective clothing. • Be aware that most tracks away from the road are unlit. • Consider wearing a helmet (conforming to BS EN 1078). • Consider your lane position; a metre from the kerb is advised when cycling straight ahead, but it may be helpful to occupy the middle of the lane when approaching a junction. • Watch out for motorists turning across you at side roads, particularly when filtering past traffic. This is a common cause of accidents in Leeds. Pay particular attention to large vehicles whose drivers may not be able to see you easily. Some may be unable to react quickly or see or hear your approach. Let pedestrians know you are there and allow plenty of room. Be ready to slow down and stop if necessary. Be considerate. Advance Stop Lines See tropical birds, butterflies, iguanas, snakes, spiders and other insects in the rainforest at Tropical World. The park comprises over 700 acres of parkland, lakes and woodland and includes scented gardens for the blind, National Plant Collections, Canal Gardens, and the Monet and Alhambra Gardens. Facilities at the Park also include tennis courts, skateboard ramps, sports pitches, bowling greens, a sports arena, a golf course and fishing. A lakeside cafe overlooks Waterloo Lake. Wykebeck Woods and Killingbeck Fields Leeds Core Cycle Network Wyke Beck Way cycle route Leeds City Council is developing a network of cycle routes in Leeds that will improve conditions for cyclists and encourage cycling as a way of getting around. Routes will be signed and use a combination of cycle lanes, tracks, quiet roads and junction improvements to link to Leeds city centre, housing, schools, employment sites, parks and greenspace, and the wider bridleway and cycle route network. This carefully signed route uses quiet roads, cycle tracks and parkland paths to give easy and direct cycle and walking access through the Wyke Beck Valley. A RP • Roundhay Park to Temple Newsam passing through Primrose Valley Park, Killingbeck Fields and other green spaces. W These are areas of ancient meadow and woodland with varied plant life. Look out for the Red Kites regularly seen soaring over the area. • Commuting to the Aire Valley Employment Area and Cross Green. Primrose Valley Community Park TN Developed by the community, this developing park provides the opportunity for a pleasant stroll or cycle in an area which is rich in wildlife. The park also has bowling and tennis facilities. Existing Proposed Temple Newsam Look for arrows on the signs. If there are no arrows go straight ahead. One of the great historic estates in England. Set within over 1500 acres of parkland, woodland and farmland. Additionally, Europe’s largest working Rare Breeds Farm, with over 400 animals, is set within the original estate Home Farm. Some of the route is on roads. Cyclists should only use pavements when there are signs showing it is shared use. Temple Newsam hosts many events each year from music festivals to funfairs and there are regular family activities, demonstrations, guided walks or tours taking place throughout the year.
