& GLOBAL CHALLENGES

Key International Relations
Challenges
Through academic lectures and direct interaction with UN
high-level officials and ambassadors, participants acquire
a clear sense of the core mission of the UN and develop
critical analysis of future challenges in international
relations.
The programme includes
Interdisciplinary lectures with professors, small-group
workshops and visits to international organisations in
Geneva. Participants will also play the role of diplomats
during a United Nations conference simulation.
The Winter Programme explores the concepts and key
issues of peace and security, human rights and humani­
tarian challenges, international development, North-South
relations and the future of global governance.
PROGRAMME
Week 1: understanding the UN system
and its actors
A clear mapping of the United Nations system since its
creation as well as its different working bodies and agencies.
Week 2: Re-inventing the United nations
An exploration of challenges encountered by the United
Nations and a debate on future perspectives for inter­
national cooperation.
FACULTY
Conducted by professors, negotiators and practitioners
from international organisations, the programme offers
participants a neutral space to reflect and reinvent global
governance in a time of high international uncertainties.

Credits
Successful participation may be accepted for credit at
other universities (6 ECTS credits ; or the equivalent US
credits). All participants receive a course certificate.

The Programme provides students with a unique opportunity
to learn and reflect on major global challenges and how
these are being addressed by the international community.
Special attention will be paid to the role of the United
Nations as a tool of global governance.
Target audience
> Students at MA level or undergraduates with
a strong interest in international affairs
> Young professionals keen to improve their knowledge
of multilateralism
Students will gain knowledge of international challenges
in a unique cosmopolitan setting. Emphasis on role-playing
and social events provide further opportunities for students
to experience multiculturalism and global diversity
firsthand.

Often referred to as the “capital of peace”, Geneva is a city
with an international outlook steeped in humanitarian
tradition. It is home to the European seat of the United
Nations, many of the world’s prominent international
organisations, hundreds of non-governmental organisations
as well as numerous headquarters of leading multinational
companies, making it an ideal place to study, teach and
research global issues. Participants in our courses have
access to an extensive network of organisations, individuals,
and experiences that only a city like Geneva can provide.
