Aim It is the aim of Linde Material Handling’s catalogue of containers to inform suppliers about existing rules and guidelines in packaging domain. Furthermore, costs thereby incurred shall be reduced respectively made calculable. Moreover the efficiency of supply chain shall be optimized by standardization of packaging. The following regulations shall help to accomplish a failure-free material flow between suppliers and Linde Material Handling to avoid needless effort for repacking to economize costs for disposal of one-way packaging. 2. Prevailing circumstances 2.1 General A packaging agreement which has been reached once with both internal as external suppliers is part of buying conditions. If the packaging predefined by catalogue of containers is neglected (without any reason and without prior agreement with the relevant department of Linde Material Handling), Linde Material Handling reserves its right to charge the particular supplier with costs for handling, disposal and repacking. Furthermore, an offence against the following regulations results in devaluation in supplier rating. Non-conformances in justified cases (e.g. alternative packaging because of new production series or extraordinary foreruns) have to be allowed on time by Linde Material Handling’s relevant department. The note “alternative packaging” has to be entered in the delivery note (=> addition) inclusive of name, abbreviation and telephone number of the person who fixed the packaging. If there is no packaging fixed by the responsible materials requirements planner of Linde Material Handling he has to fetch that later in coordination with the supplier. In case of creation or modification of a packaging’s fixation the data sheet of packaging has to be sent filled out to the logistic department (please send a copy to the purchasing department). The approval of a packaging does not absolve the supplier from his responsibility for the delivery of undamaged goods. Containers and packages which are property of Linde Material Handling and which were handed over to suppliers must not be alienated, especially not for the internal continuous production of the supplier the intermediate storage of semi-finished products the storage at the supplier’s exceeding Linde Material Handling’s actual call-of the delivery to suppliers of vendor. Catalogue of containers 2 2.2 Packaging instructions Without reference to the chosen sort of packaging the following demands have to be observed: delivery of undamaged goods (no diminished quality) use of efficient loading units ideal utilisation of containers (maximum 15 kg for small load carriers considering the optimal level of filling) transport label on each loading unit, container and package (see addition) transportation lock troublefree unloading of transport vehicles by industrial trucks stackability (if possible) compliance with standard dimensions (1200 mm x 800 mm) of pallets (pallets must be used ideally without anything protruding the outer contour) advantageous parts remove minimal use of one-way packaging use of recyclable materials objects like slips of paper, cords and covers protruding the outer packing’s outer contour must be removed before delivery 2.3 Not palletized goods As they have to be handled manually deliveries in cardboard boxes, bags etc. not stacked on pallets must be avoided strictly. Exception: Single deliveries of courier, express and parcel services. 2.4 Damaged containers Linde Material Handling inspects the state of the containers on empty containers exit. In case of delivery of damaged or abused containers respectively containers loaded against orders Linde Material Handling reserves its right to deny the receipt of goods (possibly after inspection of contents) and to take a devaluation in supplier rating. Costs thereby incurred (e.g. for repair, data maintenance, handling) are for the supplier’s account. Damaged containers have to be separated out. There is damage if the dimensions of the container have changed because of deformation and also if there are fissures or breaks. The charging of costs of a possible repair respectively scrapping must be agreed with Urban Transporte GmbH. Catalogue of containers 3 2.5 Packaging requirements 2.5.1 Outer packing As the purpose of the outer packing is to protect the goods from wind and weather it shall be waterproof. Cover sheetings for large load carriers and small load carriers must be made of polyethylene to enable unitary disposal. The outer packings released for Linde Material Handling you can learn from “List of packaging released for Linde Material Handling” (see page 10 et seq.). Before using other plastics, please consult Linde Material Handling’s materials requirements planner. Furthermore these plastics must be labelled separately in any case. 2.5.2 Inner packing Several goods are sensitive to foreign matters. To protect these goods against mechanical stress the use of packing chips and other soundabsorbing materials is not allowed. The supplier is obligated to keep the predefined quality grades (see page 6) when choosing a work piece carrier. As paperboard attracts humidity and this leads to corrosion the contact of metal parts and cover- or protection-paperboard must be avoided. 2.5.3 Protection against corrosion All purchased parts have to be delivered in rustless condition. So, anticorrosives are used to protect the goods. Please take the nominal values and general rules referring to anticorrosives in detail from “Linde Material Handling company standard WN 12480-2”. You can find a register of all allowed anticorrosives in “List of packaging released for Linde Material Handling” (see page 10 et seq.). The relevant reference addresses are listed in addition. 2.5.4 Cleanliness requirements The deliverer is responsible for the goods being dry and clean when arriving at Linde Material Handling. For this reason soiled containers must not be filled with goods but be separated out in advance and be sent to Urban Transporte GmbH to be cleaned. A small load carrier (see 6.1.2.2) is already soiled if you can identify quite small foreign matters in it. Catalogue of containers 4 The cleanliness requirements fixed by Linde Material Handling are to be kept in any case to protect the components from damage by particles of dirt. So, it is ensured that quality increases by less rework and also that failures of systems and components are minimized. Catalogue of containers 5 3. Logistical classes and there Quality grade Logistical class 1 2 3 4 Criteria Large volume Heavy (>15kg) Bulky Dangerous goods Specific Medium sized Easy to manage > 4 versions Specific/unspecific Medium sized Easy to manage ≤ 4 versions Specific/unspecific Bulk material Mass parts Unspecific Quality grade C B B A *H: Hydraulics *I: Industrial trucks 4. Quality grades The quality grades, which are stated at purchased parts, show how those have to be packed. In the following you can find an explanation of each quality grade. 4.1 Protection against mechanical stress A. No separation of components (bulk material) B. Linings for lattice box pallets and synthetic intermediate layers with Linde-label C. Components without contact 4.2 Protection against corrosion D. Waterproof synthetic cover for lading containers (polyethylene cover sheeting suitable for B2, A1) E. Components wrapped with anticorrosion paper F. Several components together wrapped with anticorrosion paper, mostly combined with “B” Catalogue of containers 6 G. Conservation of components with oil (only upon consultation with quality assurance department) 4.3 Washed oil-free H. Washed oil-free 4.4 Other I. Assembly components are packed in plastic bags separately (to ensure the completion of the components) The quality grade fixed by Linde Material Handling must be considered in any case when purchased parts are packed. If in exceptional cases a component has to be packed in another way, this must be allowed by the quality assurance department of Linde Material Handling before. Catalogue of containers 7 5. Guideline for suppliers 1. The deliverer has to classify the ordered goods on the basis of the criteria defined in „Container guideline according to logistical classes“ (see page 6). Example: Component: Valves => Bulk material Classification: logistical class 4 2. Linde Material Handling prescribes the category of package and the quality grade according to each logistical class. Example: Component: logistical class 4 prescribed package according to catalogue of containers: small load carrier prescribed quality grade according to catalogue of containers: A This prescription is obligatory; non-conformances have to be clarified with the responsible reference person before delivery in any case. 3. The deliverer now chooses a suitable package from “List of containers released for Linde Material Handling“(see page 10 et seq.). Example: from the category of small load carriers: RK8 4. The required packages have to be demanded on time at Urban Transporte GmbH by using the “boxlog”-system. Urban Transporte GmbH delivers the containers empty and clean to the supplier. The deliverer enters the incoming goods transaction for the empty containers in “boxlog”-system (see following scheme). Physical flow of reusable packaging Deliverer requires packaging packaging requirement Container: filled with goods Container: empty and clean Container: empty and damaged Container: empty and soiled Waste Catalogue of containers 8 5. Linde Material Handling receives information of the deliverer on: the chosen packaging (name, number, LMH-number) the number of components per container poss. inlays (name, number, LMH-number) Example: Information to Linde Material Handling by deliverer: Component will be delivered in small load carrier No.8: RK8 (LMH-No.: 7.7770.49.187) 30 units/container Inlay for flat parts (LMH-No.: 7.9850.49.815) (No.33) 6. The supplier delivers the ordered goods to Linde Material Handling and enters the outgoing goods transaction in “boxlog”-system. 7. The empty and soiled containers are sent to Urban Transporte GmbH for cleaning by Linde Material Handling. Catalogue of containers 9 6. List of packaging released for Linde Material Handling 6.1 Reusable packaging 6.1.1 Special frames It is the aim of this catalogue of containers to minimize the use of special frames in general and to push the standardization of packages used by deliverers. In certain cases, e.g. when components of logistical class 1 are delivered, it is inevitable to use special frames to ensure the ideal packing of purchased parts. If so, it is essential to consult the logistics department of Linde Material Handling before delivery. If, in exceptional cases, the deliverer has to revert to non-returnable packages the consultation with the logistics department of Linde Material Handling is absolutely essential. Furthermore the following issues are to be considered: As far as possible the supplier has to use ecologically harmless and recyclable packing materials. One-way packages have to be marked clearly and conspicuously with the standardized symbols of waste removal industry. It must be guaranteed that one-way packages can be handled without problems and free of damage by industrial trucks. Furthermore an advantageous parts remove has to be ensured. The deliverer has to keep both the standard dimensions and modular construction. There have to be labels on the one-way packages which inform on maximum admissible surcharge and stackability factor. The purchasing of one-way packaging is situated in supplier’s competence and is at his charge. In particular, the deliverer has to be vigilant about the fact that purchasing and delivery must be realized in time. Catalogue of containers 29 7.
