Firstly, find a USB memory stick that you can use to update the firmware on the DVR. Make sure that there’s nothing
important on there (e.g. documents or photos) as we’re going to clear the whole thing. You can use anything from
256MB in capacity up to 32GB. Larger is not better, as the firmware will only take up a very small fraction of the space
on the memory stick.
There are a few things we need to do first, though, to ensure that the firmware upgrade will proceed without any issues:
1. Make sure the DVR is connected to a computer monitor while doing the update. This is because the firmware
update may cause the DVR to reset to PAL video system by default. If you have the DVR connected to a regular
TV via the V-Out cable, as soon as the DVR restarts after the update the screen will start rolling and you won’t be
able to see the menu!
2. Plug the USB memory stick into the bottom USB port at the back of the DVR, then go into MAIN MENU > DEVICE
> HDD. Click the button labeled “FORMAT USB”. Wait until it is finished formatting, then once it’s done unplug
the memory stick and stick it into your computer.
Next up, we’re going to place the firmware update onto the USB memory stick.

Open the firmware zip file. You should see something like this.

Hit the Extract all files button on the menu bar

Next, you’ll be asked where to extract the firmware to. Hit Browse.

Select the memory stick and hit OK then hit Extract.

You should get a folder labeled dvrupgrade on the memory stick, with firmware file(s) in it.
Now that we’ve got a copy of that firmware update file on the flash drive, we’re going to take it out of the PC and
put it into the DVR to conduct the update. The DVR will have two USB ports on the back, one is labeled as a USB
mouse port, and the other (bottom) is labeled as a USB memory stick port, that’s the one we want! Chuck the USB
memory stick into that bottom port.
3. Next up, we’re going to apply the firmware.

Open the main menu by pressing the MENU button.

Enter the username and password if necessary (default is ‘admin’ with no password).

Go into SYSTEM.

Go into MAINTAIN

Now choose the UPDATE option.

After the firmware update and the DVR has rebooted, go back to the Maintain menu again and Hit Load
Defaults. Select all the options with the Select All button, and hit Apply. Exit the menu and the DVR will
reboot.
4. After the DVR has rebooted, go to Main Menu > System > AV Setup and set the Video System to the correct
setting for your country (NTSC for the Americas, PAL most everywhere else). Hit Apply, then the DVR will reboot
one more time. If it doesn’t reboot right away, get out of the Main Menu to make the DVR restart.
And you’re done!!
