Student Services Office Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences 160 Agriculture Building (204) 474-9295 aginfo@umanitoba.ca Aurora Error Messages - Helpful Hints Sometimes when you are trying to register for a course, after you have clicked on "Submit Changes", you may see an error message. Below are the common errors and how to deal with them: Account is Disabled Error If you have received an error message that indicates that your Aurora account is “disabled”, it means one of the following: You have tried logging on too many times How to deal with this error: Call the Registrar’s Office and they will be able to reactivate your account. The phone number is (204) 474-9420. Please note that there is a Forgot PIN? Button next to the PIN box. Enter your student number in the User ID field and click on Forgot PIN? This will allow you to reset your PIN. Campus Restriction If you have received an error message that indicates that you have a “campus restriction”, it means the following: You are trying to register for a course that is not taught at either the Fort Garry or Bannatyne Campuses How to deal with this error: Check to see that you are registering in a course that located on the main campus. In order to insure that you are selecting courses that are available from the Fort Garry and Bannatyne campuses select “Main” in the campus selection box. Closed Section If you have received an error message that indicates that you are registering in a “closed section”, it means the following: The time slot of the course that you are trying to register for is full How to deal with this error Try to find another time slot that is available and also fits into your schedule. You can click on the title of a course to find out the spaces available for that class. You can also try asking the department for permission to take the class but there is no guarantee that you will receive the permission. College Restriction If you have received an error message that indicates that you have a “college restriction”, it means one of the following: You are trying to register for a course that is restricted to your student type How to deal with this error: There are two ways to see if the student type that you belong to can register for a class. This first way is through the ‘Look up Classes’ menu in Aurora. You can find out if there are any restrictions by clicking the CRN of the specific time slot that you are looking at and then clicking the title of the course that pops up. The restrictions are listed on that page. The second way of discovering what restrictions are listed for courses is to check the class schedule listing located on the same page as the link entitled “Enter Secure Area”. After submitting the course name and number and then clicking on the ‘Get Courses’ button click the title of the course. It will bring you to a new page. Scroll down and see if the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences is listed. If you believe you are seeing this message in error, contact our Student Services Office. Link Errors If you have received an error message that indicates that there is a “link error”, it means one of the following: The lab and/or lecture section you have tried to register for is full. There is a conflict in your schedule that will not allow you to register for the particular lecture and/or lab section that you have requested. The lecture and/or lab section you have tried to register for is restricted to a student type that you do not belong to. The lab section you tried to register for is not one of the approved lab sections for the specific lecture section you registered for. You registered for a lecture section without registering for any of the required lab sections. You are already registered in the maximum credit hours for that particular term. How to deal with this error: Check your specific class in the Class Schedule to see which lab sections are approved for the lecture section you are interested in. The Look Up Classes screen contains this information. You can also click on the CRN number to go to the Class Schedule entry to find out additional information. The restrictions for a particular class are listed in Detailed Class Information, which can be accessed by clicking on the title of the course in the Class Schedule. Check your Week at a Glance from the main Registration screen to see if you have a conflicting course at the same tine as the lab section you tried to add. The Student Detailed Schedule screen will tell you how many credit hours you are registered in. Please note that both these screens will only display courses from your selected term (only Fall or Winter). Duplicate CRN You have entered the CRN twice. How to deal with this error: Try entering the course/CRN again. If it still does not work, please contact the Student Services Office for assistance. Major Restriction If you have received an error message that indicates that you have a “major restriction”, it means one of the following: That the course that you are trying to register for is only allowed to be taken by students in a certain major. Please ensure your major is correct on Aurora. If it is not, please contact the Student Services Office. Once your major has been updated you should then be able to register for the course. How to deal with this error: Only students who are in certain major programs are allowed to register for these courses. Try choosing other courses to fill you schedule. If your Program is incorrect please contact our Student Services Office. Program Restriction If you have received an error message that indicates that you have a “program restriction”, it means one of the following: That the course that you are trying to register for is only allowed to be taken by students in a certain program. Please ensure your program is correct on Aurora. If it is not, please contact the Student Services Office. Once your program has been updated you should then be able to register for the course. How to deal with this error: Only students who are in certain programs are allowed to register for these courses. Try choosing other courses to fill you schedule. Preq & Test Score Error If you have received an error message that indicates that you have a “Preq & Test Score Error”, it means one of the following: Lacking a course that is a prerequisite to the course that you are trying to register for, or There might be an error in data conversion How to deal with this error: Check the Aurora Course Catalog to see if there are any prerequisites for the course. You may be able to register for the prerequisite courses and take them during the upcoming term. By doing this you will be able to register for the course that you initially wanted to take in the next term or in the forthcoming years. If you are certain that you have the prerequisites and are still have registration errors please contact the Student Services Office. Maximum Hours Exceeded You have tried to register in more credit hours than your program allows. How to deal with this error: If you would like to exceed your hours (number of course taken within a term) you must obtain permission from your faculty. Please contact the Student Services Office for assistance. Repeat Count Exceeds 0 If you have received an error message that has the status of “Repeat Count Exceeds 0”, it means the following: You are trying to register in a course that you have already taken. How to deal with this error: If you wish to repeat a course you must contact the Student Services Office. You will be required to fill out a request form. Once it is approved and the override is placed on your account you may then register for this course. Normally you are allowed to repeat a course only once and the new grade will stand regardless of whether it is high or lower than your previous grade. Term Span Error If you have received an error message that indicates that you have a “term span error”, it means one of the following: Trying to register in the wrong term Time conflict How to deal with this error: Check to make sure that you are registering in the right term. The term is shown on the top right hand corner of the screen. If the CRN starts with a 1 then the course that you are trying to register for is in the Fall. If the CRN starts with a 2 then the course that you are trying to register for begins in the Winter Term. If you would like to switch the tern that you are in click return to menu and select a term (it should be the first option on the list.). Check to see if you have a time conflict with any of the other courses that you have registered for. If you are unsure of the times of the classes that you have registered for you can check the Student Detailed Schedule. Your Faculty or Advisor is currently reviewing your account If you have received an message that indicates your Faculty or Advisor is currently reviewing your account, it means one of the following: Trying to add CRNs for both the Fall 2014 and Winter 2015 in the same worksheet. Trying to add too many CRNs at the same time How to deal with this error: Make sure that you are in the correct term when trying to register for courses. The term is mentioned on the top right hand corner of the screen. You can switch the term by clicking on return to menu and then select a term. Try to only add one or two CRNs at a time. When you are adding a course that requires a lab make sure that you type in the lab CRN as well.
