It is decorated with beautiful plasterwork, which includes the monogram of Queen Victoria, the reigning monarch at the time of construction. is the Dun’s Hospital table. Made of bog oak this table use to be in the student residence of Sir Patrick Dun’s Hospital. In the nineteenth century it became a tradition for student doctors to carve their name into the table. When this table top became full, a new top was provided to allow the practice to continue. The tables contain the names of several hundred Irish doctors, many who became leaders in the profession. It takes its name from Sir Patrick Dun (1642-1713), who at his death in 1713 donated his personal library to the College. This formed the nucleus for the library’s collections, which today holds approximately 20,000 volumes dating from the 16th to 21st century. With the College’s archive collections it forms one of the most important collections for the study of the history of medicine and medical education in Ireland. Originally designed to house the College’s museum of medical specimens, this room now holds two collections of medical books, donated to the College by Dr Thomas Percy Claude Kirkpatrick (18691954) and Dr Fleetwood Churchill (1808-1878). 5.4 M 2 .7M THE DUN LIBRARY THE CHEYNE ROOM PAGE 9 9 PAGE Cheyne Room M Sumptuous PAGE Q U A L I T Y C AT E R I N G 10 N o.6’s catering is delivered by a dedicated food and beverage team, one of Ireland’s leading service providers who aspire to exceed expectation.
