York County Parcel Viewer Map Help Note: The new York County Parcel Viewer uses the Adobe Flash Player plug-in version 10 or higher. Map Navigation: To move the map location North, South, East or West, simply click the map and drag the mouse in the direction desired. Zooming in and out can be accomplished using a mouse scroll wheel, or by adjusting the slider bar in the upper left corner of the application. To zoom to a defined box area, hold the shift key and drag a box over the area. To zoom out by a box area, hold ctrl + shift and drag a box. Changing Map Layers: There are 2 types of Map layers in the York County Parcel Viewer. Base Maps are selected using the Base Map selector menu in the upper right corner. Clicking “Map”, or “Aerial 2008” in the image above will make that layer the base map. There is also a slider available to allow a combination of 2 base maps. You can also pick from other base map layers in the drop down menus on each button. Overlay Layers are selected using the “Layers” button in the top menu bar. Once the Layers Dialog is open, a layer can be turned on or off using the checkbox next to the layer name. Layer transparency can be adjusted using the slider next to the layer name. A legend image for each layer is available by clicking the layer name in the dialog. Searching for Parcels: Searches are completed using the “Search” button in the application menu. This will open the search dialog box. Enter information in the search form for the appropriate field. Once the form is filled, click the” Search” button in the dialog to begin a search. Clear the form by clicking the “Clear” button in the form. When a search returns results a results dialog box will be opened. Clicking a record in this dialog will highlight and zoom to that parcel on the map and open an information window at that location. Identify parcels by clicking: To get more information about a parcel in a specific location, use the “Identify” button in the main toolbar to open the Identify dialog. Once it is open, click on the map to identify parcels in that location. An Information Window will show over the selected parcel. Measure Areas and Distances: Click the “Measure” button in the control bar to open the measure dialog. Using the Measure Distance tools measures distances. Using the Measure Area tools measures areas. Using the Coordinates tool gives coordinates in latitude longitude and in State Plane Feet coordinates. Printing: Click the “Print” button in the application control bar to open a new window that is formatted for printing on letter size paper. The location of the map will be based on what is in the main application, but you can zoom or adjust the location of the print map the same way as in the main map application. If an information window is open before clicking print this will be shown in the print window as well (this means if you want to display parcel information in your print, you must use the search or identify tools to display this information before clicking print). If you want a custom title or subtitle, click the “Change Title” or “Change Subtitle” text and edit it. Extra Tools There are more map tools available. To view them, click the “Tools” button and a new menu of buttons will open. Multi View Click the Multi View button in the tools menu to open the Multi View in a new window. Multi View will be opened in the same location as the map view in the York County parcel Viewer. This viewer includes, Bing Maps Bird’s Eye View, a Google street map as well as Google Street View of the same location. Note: Street View is not available for all places, and streets that have this data are outlined in Blue in the Google map view in the bottom left. Bookmarks The Bookmarks tool allows you to add bookmarks of map locations for future reference. You will start with no bookmarks, and can add a bookmark by zooming to a location you wish to save, then putting a description in the text box and clicking add bookmark. Once bookmarks are created, you can zoom to them by clicking the zoom button, or delete a bookmark using the red x. Buffer To view a map of features within a specified distance use the “Buffer” button. The buffer tool lets you draw a shape on the map, and then see the shape buffered by the distance specified in the buffer distance selection. If you want to buffer a parcel, use the search or identify tools and make sure that parcel is highlighted, then open the buffer tool and hit the map graphics button. This will buffer the feature you already had on the map.
