Professor Susy Frankel’s appointment as President of the International Association for the Advancement of Teaching and Research of Intellectual Property, Professor Graeme Austin’s important IP research in South East Asia and Associate Professor Petra Butler’s leading role in a recent South Pacific workshop on cross-border dispute resolution, offer just a glimpse of the impact our academics are having on the world stage. It is therefore exciting to get to that time of the year as we finalise our postgraduate course offerings when we can showcase their expertise. I mentioned last month that I would touch on some of the new courses we have coming up in 2016. They include: Water Law and Policy – Professor Lee Godden from the University of Melbourne Security, Government and the Law – Associate Professor Alberto Costi and Kevin Riordan, barrister and former director general of Defence Legal Services Legislative Design, Drafting and Law-Making – Sir Geoffrey Palmer Each of these falls into the ‘short course’ category, meaning they are ideal for working professionals looking to hone their expertise in a particular area with other like-minded experts. They are among a number we will be offering to the Auckland market for the first time this year. We are also happy to look at options for those wishing to attend and participate in these short courses without having to submit a final research paper. Please contact gordon.anderson@vuw.ac.nz or gordon.stewart@vuw.ac.nz in the first instance if you have any such queries. I encourage you to take some time to look at our flexible postgraduate offerings for 2016 as you plan your professional development. file:///C|/Users/blackede/Desktop/October.htm[14/03/2016 3:22:07 p.m.] October 2015 Law Faculty News October 2015 Professor Mark Hickford Prof Graeme Austin leads South East Asian IP research Intellectual Property Presidency for Prof Susy Frankel Student success at National Māori Moot at Waitangi Professor Graeme Austin (Chair in Private Law) has recently returned from Singapore where he is playing a leading role in a research project on the coordination of intellectual property laws of ASEAN countries.
