Lambeth 8 OUR MAJOR PROJECTS From foundations to high-rises, bridges to tunnels, when it comes to delivering demanding assignments, Lambeth’s experience and success is unrivalled across Southeast Asia. We have provided design support for most of the high-rise buildings that Gammon has built. A large number of landmark buildings in Hong Kong are supported on foundations designed by Lambeth. In the railways and transit systems sector, Lambeth has handled permanent and temporary works designs for a number of major railway station and tunnel contracts in Hong Kong and Southeast Asia. We take pride in our ability to deliver innovative designs. Gammon’s reputation for taking on and successfully completing the most challenging of civil engineering projects is founded on methods designed and developed by Lambeth. We are a leader in design for major excavations for underground works in soft ground and rock. Many of our projects are recognised by the industry as outstanding examples of best practice. In addition, we have been the originators of complex designs for bridge erection using pre-cast segments, in-situ balanced cantilever and steel-cable stayed methods and other techniques. 9 Lambeth Cathay Pacific Air Cargo Terminal Hong Kong Harbour Area Treatment Scheme, Stage 2A Mole Removal, Phases 1 and 2 SINGAPORE Lambeth pioneered design solutions at Marina South to remove a 1.3km tract of seawall, 60m wide, and buried 20m in soft clay. Submerged excavation techniques were used to stabilise the soft clay. HONG KONG Temporary works for the construction of this extensive network of sewage treatment shafts and tunnels, formed by drilling and blasting at depths of up to 165m below ground, were designed by Lambeth. Lambeth introduced innovative designs and mechanised construction techniques to make this project easier to build safely within the constraints of a demanding programme. Building Information Modelling (BIM) was used extensively to assist design and construction planning of this 280,000m2 building. MTR Kowloon Southern Link and Express Rail Link Chinatown MRT Station SINGAPORE Tamar Development Project Hong Kong Foundations, substructures and temporary works for these landmark buildings that accommodate The Government of Hong Kong SAR were designed by Lambeth. Lambeth also provided design management services for the entire development. Lambeth has the enviable track record of designing several of Singapore’s most challenging railway projects including Marina Bay Station and Chinatown Station. Experience spanning more than twodecades was applied during the preparation of all design for a station and tunnels on the Downtown Line in historic Chinatown. Hong Kong Lambeth designed the temporary works for the underground expansion of the rail network into Tsim Sha Tsui from both the east and west. Projects include West Kowloon Station and tunnels and West Kowloon Terminus approach. Tuen Mun Road East and Tolo Highway Hong Kong Woodsville Interchange Singapore MTR West Island Line Hong Kong Lambeth was responsible for the design of temporary works for several major contracts on West Island Line. Elements include Kennedy Town Station, Sai Ying Pun Station, Hong Kong University Station, rail tunnels, pedestrian connections and a cavern explosives store. Value engineering by Lambeth delivered significant cost savings. This challenging underground road project is located at one of the busiest interchanges in Singapore. We developed designs for both temporary works and permanent works. Developing engineering solutions to enable widening of roads and bridges above difficult terrain is nothing new to Lambeth. We piloted an online temporary works management system, developed in-house, on these projects. The system was hugely successful in improving communication and for managing risk, and is now used across our business. Lambeth 10 Hong Kong – Shenzhen Western Corridor Centennial Campus, The University of Hong Kong Victoria Park Swimming Pool Complex Hong Kong We have designed the piled foundations, substructures and enabling works for this world-class facility in the heart of the city. Hong Kong An underground reservoir formed in two rock caverns, massive site formation to accommodate high-rise buildings and the protection of heritage buildings are a few of the challenges that Lambeth faced as a designer for this project. Hong Kong At the Hong Kong Shenzhen Western Corridor, we designed a 1.8km-long modular temporary access bridge that was completed in four months. This allowed piling and temporary works for the erection of the cable stay bridge to commence at an early stage. Castle Peak Road Improvements Hong Kong The ONE HONG KONG iSQUARE HONG KONG At iSQUARE, Lambeth provided engineering services for the construction of the building including pedestrian tunnel links to an operational underground railway station. Value engineering by Lambeth, for the five-level basement of this 25-storey retail complex, delivered a 35% saving in temporary steel supports. Lambeth introduced design-for-safety workshops to identify and subsequently design-out construction safety risks. For the Castle Peak Road improvements, we used an innovative solution for ship impact protection when we designed this 710m-long four-lane viaduct that crosses a marine inlet. Hysan Place Hong Kong St. Paul’s Hospital Redevelopment HONG KONG SkyPier and North Satellite Concourse HONG KONG Lambeth continues to build on its reputation of providing first class engineering services for the expansion of Hong Kong International Airport and associated development including Asia Airfreight Terminal, Cathay Pacific Air Cargo Terminal, DHL Central Asia Hub, HACTL and Tradeport Logistics Centre. 11 Lambeth Lambeth designed this challenging basement and foundation project that demanded a deep excavation in close proximity to a Grade I listed monument and hospital. A 36-storey retail and office development located in the heart of Hong Kong’s busiest shopping areas.
