Upper Hay River School Dene Hand Games Our students have been learning how to play the traditional Dene Hand Games for the last month. We have a community volunteer that comes in and teaches the students how to play. Students from Grades 1 – 9 have been learning the various aspects of the game. They have learned the basic hand signals and drumming that go along with the game. Our junior high students have been traveling to other schools and teaching the students at these schools how to play the game. It is our goal to teach Hand Games at most of the junior high and elementary schools in our school division. In May we will be hosting a school hand games tournament at our school. This will give the students at the other schools time to practice the game and become adept at it. Hopefully all the schools that we have visited to teach the students the game will be able to send one or two teams to our tournament. More information about the school tournament will come out as we get closer to the tournament date. Check out Dene Hand Games on www.youtube.com
