SAINT CHARLES BORROMEO ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH 1818 COAL PLACE SOUTH EAST ALBUQUERQUE, N EW M EXICO , USA 87106-4025 505.242.3462 FACSIMILE 505.247.1292 Dear Friend, Welcome to St. Charles Borromeo parish! We gather around our Lord Jesus as members of His living body – the Body of Christ. We welcome you to become an active member of our faith community. In the old days you might have just given your name to be added to the list of registered parishioners. But these are new days. We are working to develop a community of faith – faith in and responsibility to our Lord, and a faith in and responsibility to one another. You are being invited into a relationship with our community, a relationship to one another, a relationship with mutual rights and obligations. We have chosen to express this commitment to one another through a covenant (a biblical sign which signifies our dedication to God and each other). If people were to join the parish only for what they can get out of it, then this parish would quickly become impoverished spiritually as well as materially. But if each person joined this parish out of love for Jesus with a heart eager to serve, then we will all experience a little bit of heaven on earth. We invite you to become an active member of this community. With this letter we include information on how you may share your time, talent and treasure. “We also enclose a copy of our Covenant. Please read it carefully. When you feel you are ready to sign the Covenant and to join in the life of St. Charles Borromeo Parish, please call the parish office and make an appointment with the Stewardship Committee. People from the parish will meet with you to explain what membership at St. Charles involves. You must make an appointment and attend a meeting with the “Welcoming and Registration Committee” to be fully registered. Call the Parish Front Office at 242-3462 to schedule the date for your attendance. Please bring your Welcome packet. We look forward to meeting you personally. May our Lord Jesus keep you in the palm of his hand. Sincerely yours in Christ, Father Jerome D. Time Talent Treasure STEWARDSHIP COMMITMENT “Freely You Have Received, Freely Give” Matt 10:8 God calls us to generously return gifts that he gives us to help build His Kingdom and to help each other. We call this STEWARDSHIP. Our parish is committed to the stewardship of time, talent and treasure. This kind of sharing makes it possible for us to realize our mission as a parish. We cannot really call ourselves members of a Christian community, unless we make a sacrifice for its support. HOW MUCH SHOULD I GIVE? No one can tell you how much to give, we only suggest, as do so many passages in the Scriptures. Our giving should be: Planned: Proportionate: Sacrificial: As we plan for all of our financial responsibilities. In proportion to what we have received. Giving out of our substance: Not necessarily till it hurts, rather till it feels good. Our giving should include: -- Our Parish. The Sacrificial Giving Guide suggests that we give ½ of our tithe to our parish -- Our Archdiocese. A ¼th of your tithe could be given to the Archdiocesan Appeal ACA (Annual Catholic Appeal) -- Other Charities. Another ¼th of your tithe could be assigned to other charities in our community and the world.
