Is it illegal to keep someone else MyKad ?
According to Section 8A of the National Registration Act 1959 it is illegal to
detain an identity card (MyKad) of another person. No unauthorized persons,
including security guards, are allowed to retain the MyKads (identity cards) of
other people.

What if the visitor’s MyKad cannot be read ?
The chip on MyKad could be dirty. Use an eraser to remove the dirt. If the chip
still cannot be read, the chip could be faulty. You may need to manually enter
the visitor’s particular into the system.
Do we need approval from the authority to read MyKad ?
The permission to access MyKad or MyKid has been given to the supplier of
this system. However, the user of the system does not have the rights to sell
the identity information obtained from the visitor’s MyKad. Infringement of
data privacy law is a serious offence.
