Intellectual property (IP) that sits on the shelves does no one any good. Like any other asset, there is a
cost in maintaining IP. A variety of IP marketing services have grown in recent years as organisations
seek to find uses and users for their IP; to generate returns from the investment put into the IP’s
development and protection.
The course provides an excellent introduction to the essentials of IP marketing and is supported by
proven examples in practice.
Participants will be taught through lectures and in-class exercises key steps involved in IP and
technology marketing ranging from developing technology offers, email & website marketing, and
marketing through various platforms from mass events such as tradeshows & exhibitions to strategic
industry outreach programmes such as roundtables and forums.
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
At the end of the course, participants would be able to

Evaluate a range of IP marketing tools, services and models that meets their business and strategic
interests;
 Find effective and efficient ways to get their organisation’s IP out to market; in order to
 Better manage relationships with IP consultants and intermediaries.

This course is intended for those who already have a basic understanding of patents (IP) and technology
management, and who wish to further refine their IP marketing competencies and strengthen their

The course will start with the basics of marketing technology – developing a technology offer – before
delving into different marketing techniques and platforms.

Beyond the technology – Developing a technology offer that addresses customers’ needs

Marketing platforms – Understanding potentials and limitations

Matchmaking and marketplaces – What’s the difference?

Emerging tools and services – What’s on the horizon
Participants will benefit from interactive group sessions designed to provide practice in the evaluation and
analysis of the various tools and services available for IP marketing.
SPEAKER’S PROFILE
DR. SZE TIAM LIN is the Director at IPI, a company setup under the national Research, Innovation &
Enterprise 2015 (RIE 2015) Plan, to be the nexus for enterprise to access, acquire and capitalize on IP
to innovate and succeed in the global economy.
Prior to IPI, Dr Sze held several Senior Vice President appointments at Exploit Technologies, the
commercialization arm of A*STAR, involving in IP management and strategy, technology and
competitive intelligence and licensing. Dr Sze was involved in the pioneering work at Exploit
Technologies and has over 9 years experience in marketing and commercializing new technologies
ranging from materials, chemicals, manufacturing, semiconductors, interactive digital media, IT and
communications.
Dr Sze is a Certified Licensing Professional (CLP) and a member of the Executive Committee of the
Licensing Executive Society (Singapore). He has two granted patents. Dr. Sze holds a Ph.D (Artificial
Intelligence) and B.Eng in Automatic Control & Systems Engineering from the University of Sheffield,
UK.

Withdrawals
The Organiser will refund 75% of the course fees if written notice of withdrawal is received at least 1 week before the
commencement of the course. The remaining 25% will be charged as an administration fee. No refund will be made for
any withdrawal after this period except in mitigating and extenuating circumstances (e.g. bereavement, illness, accidents),
subject to management’s approval. Documentary evidence must be produced in such circumstances.
Substitutions are welcome at any time. However, such requests must be made to the IP Academy in writing.
Cancellation & Refund
The Organiser reserves the right of cancellation. A full refund will be given to registrants if the course is cancelled by the
Organiser. The IP Academy reserves the right to make changes to the programme.
Payment
Payment is required before the start of the course or within 14 days of receipt of invoice, whichever is earlier.
All cheques should be crossed and made payable to “IP Academy”. Kindly write the course title at the back of the cheque.
