Uhler 530-318-6275 buhler@cityofslt.us Officer Involved Shooting in South Lake Tahoe South Lake Tahoe, CA (June 16, 2015, 4:15pm) – On June 15, 2015, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department reported the fatal police shooting of Kris Jackson. Following protocols previously established by agreement with area law enforcement agencies, a thorough joint investigation is underway involving the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department, El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office and the South Lake Tahoe Police Department. This press release provides a summary of events as they are currently understood. A search of the scene was conducted yesterday and all available evidence is being examined. Additionally, all responding officers and other involved parties were interviewed by the investigative team. The involved officer’s statement explains he perceived a deadly threat from Kris Jackson. Within seconds of the shooting, officers requested an ambulance, rendered first aid, and continued until the ambulance arrived. After interviews and a search of the crime scene, no firearm or other weapon was located. As part of the process, the completed investigation will be forwarded to the El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office for review. We encourage patience as this unfolds at a pace which might not seem fast enough. The next phase of the investigation includes an autopsy which is scheduled to occur on Wednesday. Some of the autopsy results may be available in the coming days. An ambulance is requested. The ambulance arrived on-scene. Uhler 530-318-6275 buhler@cityofslt.us Officer Involved Shooting in South Lake Tahoe—Press Release #2 South Lake Tahoe, CA (June 16, 2015) – On Monday, June 15, 2015, preliminary information was shared with the press regarding the shooting of a young man when officers responded to a call for a woman screaming and crying. Refer to this earlier release for details. Now that the next of kin has been notified, we are able to identify the deceased male as 22 year-old Kris Jackson who is from Sacramento and on criminal probation. Earlier this month, on June 1st, Jackson was arrested by SLTPD officers for possession of several baggies of cocaine, scales and packaging materials (below, is the booking photo from this arrest). Also, on May 21st, 2015, Jackson was arrested by SLTPD for a Sacramento failure to appear warrant relative to a drug possession charge. A search warrant for the interior of the hotel room was signed by a judge this afternoon and El Dorado County Sheriff Department Crime Scene evidence experts will complete this aspect of the search and investigation. Pursuant to the mutual aid Critical Incident Protocol, the investigation into the incident will be conducted jointly by SLTPD, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office and the El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office and additional information will be forthcoming as it becomes available. The involved Officer has made a verbal preliminary public safety statement to the supervisor in the moments after the shooting. A complete interview of the involved Officer with investigators is scheduled. More detailed information will be made available as appropriate given the on-going nature of the investigation. Kris Jackson ### South Lake Tahoe Police Department - www.cityofslt.us/police SOUTH LAKE TAHOE POLICE DEPARTMENT NEWS RELEASE Monday, June 15th, 2015 Contact: Phone: Address: Brian Uhler, Police Chief 530-318-6275 1352 Johnson Blvd. South Lake Tahoe, Ca. 96150 Officer Involved Shooting in South Lake Tahoe South Lake Tahoe, CA (June 15, 2015) - On June 15, 2015, at approximately 2:40 a.m., two South Lake Tahoe Police Officers responded to a suspicious circumstance call at Tahoe Hacienda Inn, which is located 3820 Lake Tahoe Blvd, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150. The SLTPD Officers had been dispatched in response to a caller reporting sounds of woman screaming and crying. At approximately 2:50 am, an officer involved shooting occurred whereby a man in his early 20s was struck. Officers immediately began to render assistance to the man and called for paramedics. The man was transported to Barton Memorial Hospital, where two hours later at approximately 5:00 am he succumbed to his injuries. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, Coroner unit. Pursuant to the mutual aid Critical Incident Protocol, the investigation into the incident will be conducted jointly by SLTPD, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office and the El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office. This investigation is unfolding and information is preliminary. As is standard procedure, the SLTPD Officer who was involved in the shooting is being placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation.
