St Mary’s Church St Mary's is the Anglican Parish Church serving the Village of Datchet. It is part of the benefice of Colnbrook and Datchet. The building we see today was rebuilt in 1857. Peter Wyard has been Vicar of Datchet St. Mary’s Church since 2005. He visits Eton End School termly, taking morning assemblies. Year 1 pupils invited Reverend Wyard to an RE lesson; they had been discussing special places and buildings. The children spent half an hour asking Reverend Wyard why St. Mary’s Church is a special place. The boys and girls had devised the questions prior to the lesson. Here are some of the questions they asked: Why does a church have candles? Who is a church for and who goes there? Is the church always open? Why do people pray in a church? Why does a church have bells? What makes the church a special place?
