This method covers the procedures for evaluating the material and construction characteristics of lighting assemblies. The evaluation of lighting assemblies shall be according to pertinent specification. This method replaces Test Method "Tex-870-B, Material and Construction Characteristics of Lighting Assemblies." Texas Department of Transportation 2 06/00–04/08 Tex-1120-T, Material and Construction Characteristics of Lighting Assemblies Section 2 — Sampling Section 2 Sampling Sampling of lighting assemblies shall conform to the procedures outlined in "Tex-1110-T, Sampling Lighting Assemblies." Texas Department of Transportation 3 06/00–04/08 Tex-1120-T, Material and Construction Characteristics of Lighting Assemblies Section 3 — Safety Note Section 3 Safety Note Refer to 'Safety Note' in the "Overview" of this manual. Texas Department of Transportation 4 06/00–04/08 Tex-1120-T, Material and Construction Characteristics of Lighting Assemblies Section 4 — Procedures Section 4 Procedures Receiving Lighting Assemblies The following table details the steps for receiving lighting assemblies. Step 1 2 3 4 Receiving Lighting Assemblies Action Upon receipt of lighting assemblies, open all boxes, remove each assembly, and check for shipping damage (broken lenses, missing parts, bent or dented metal work). With the information on Form 202, "Identification of Material Samples," assign each lot a laboratory number. Write laboratory number on each assembly box. Arrange assemblies in logical order in storage area until ready for testing. Evaluating Lighting Assemblies The following table details the steps for evaluating the construction characteristics of lighting assemblies. Step 1 2 3 4 5 Evaluating Lighting Assemblies Action Remove all power from test bench. Remove assembly from shipping box, assemble (if necessary), and place on test bench. Visually inspect the interior and exterior surfaces and components to verify compliance with pertinent specification. Verify that assembly contains the proper stickers and warnings. Record the assembly ballast voltage requirements on the test sheet. Texas Department of Transportation 5 06/00–04/08 Tex-1120-T, Material and Construction Characteristics of Lighting Assemblies Section 5 — Consecutive Testing Section 5 Consecutive Testing Test Method "Tex-1130-T, Ballast of Lighting Assemblies," normally follows testing for Test Method "Tex-1120-T, Material and Construction Characteristics of Lighting Assemblies." If this is the case, then replacing each assembly in shipping box is not necessary. Texas Department of Transportation 6 06/00–04/08 Tex-1120-T, Material and Construction Characteristics of Lighting Assemblies Section 6 — Completing Lighting Assemblies Section 6 Completing Lighting Assemblies Follow the 'Tagging/Labeling, Documenting and Shipping General Requirements' as detailed in the "Preface" of this manual. Texas Department of Transportation 7 06/00–04/08 Tex-1120-T, Material and Construction Characteristics of Lighting Assemblies Section 7 — Failure of Assemblies Section 7 Failure of Assemblies Any assembly that fails to meet specification will be rejected and the lot represented by that assembly shall also be rejected.
