Exemplar for internal assessment resource Digital Technologies for Achievement Standard 91634 Conclusion In certain situations based on my research and investigation I have decided that as a digital technologies student studying the complex digital concepts of web creation, using html coding along with CSS would be the best option for my web based image gallery. HTML code is often much more compact, therefore easier to read and maintain, when used in conjunction with CSS, style sheet technology gives designers good typographic control and a provides a consistent aesthetic look, and layout design. CSS permits effects such as roll overs of images and reduces the need for JavaScript which can sometimes be turned off on users browsers because of their concerns about security. Using the CSS technique also is good because I am being responsible by trying to reduce the bandwidth that would be used compared to sending a navigation bar that used roll-over images to my end user as CSS does not use images. It would be immoral to carelessly use up someone’s bandwidth without them being unaware because it will cost them more money. Despite plug-ins being the easier option in terms of creation and is suitable for amateur web creators, they have less freedom for me to develop the features I want in my site and I don’t want to have to worry about the legalities of re-using someone else’s plugin code. Using html coding for an image gallery the legal, ethical and moral considerations are complied with as I the creator of my web image gallery is personally responsible and , plugins have limited control and is are harder to govern. I am expected to show that all of the content used on the page meets normal expectations of the privacy and copyright issues. It may be necessary for me to get permission to use images from the people in the image or if they are underage their parents. It is not ethical for me to take someone else’s image and edit it so that the original is less recognisable as the original image is still owned by the original creator. I would also need to take care that nothing on the page could cause offence to the usual viewers of the web gallery. My web gallery would need to have privacy policies and a method for people to report images that do not meet the ethical, legal and moral considerations for the website. As a good web creator I will use CSS3 to style the look of my pages as it is better for the wider community as it has features that enable webpages to be read semantically by screen readers that the visually impaired people use to access the internet. Often when using JavaScript and other code samples that they I have got from existing websites, I will need to ensure that they I have followed the ethical issues related to Intellectual Property and Copyright. Some websites that provide free JavaScript, for example, also have a requirement that any code used must show in the comments the creator of the original JavaScript. When creating the design of my media gallery I need to ensure that I have considered the design principles such as using colours that have good contrast, considering the flow of the text, the style of font used etc. Adhering to these standards means that I can’t make the website exactly to the way I would like it but I want my website to be readable and appealing to as many people as possible. This method also adheres to digital media standards and conventions due to the individual control that the creator has have over the content and ensuring the gallery will play on all necessary browsers. The main issue I will need to overcome with web creation are the pages being displayed differently in different browsers. Rendering differences do exist in older © NZQA 2015 Exemplar for internal assessment resource Digital Technologies for Achievement Standard 91634 browsers but more commonly rendering differences are caused by ambiguity in the coding. Therefore I will use W3C Validator will be used which helps me by spotting coding errors and making sure the HTML code is well formed. The use of notepad++ allows me to structure the code so that it can be easily read and make comments about the code which allows future people to read, understand and change my code. If the code was not structured it would be difficult to follow. © NZQA 2015
