Planned Products The subjects of each research project of both research lines were chosen according to theoretical and policy relevance, personal interest in a particular disciplinary field, and the potential to attract external funding and research collaborations. Each project will start from disciplinary perspective (e.g., economic, political, ecological, geographical, anthropological, historical) upon which an interdisciplinary analysis will be built. Both research teams will develop initiatives to foster theoretical and analytical cross-fertilization throughout the five-year research plan: First, the cross-cutting themes of common interest among the researchers will be selected in order to develop integrative projects. Second, regular meetings will be planned where research progress, potential collaborations, and co-publication projects will be discussed. Finally, ideas for events such as conference panels and seminars have been and will be explored. In addition, co-operation with visiting senior fellows will help to strengthen the various research projects. Furthermore, the projects offer possibilities for collaboration with other national and international institutes and their researchers. The planned products can be captured under the three headings of academic events, publications and education. At this stage the following academic events are planned: in 2009, a seminar to stimulate the integration of research line 1 and a seminar on strategic environmental assessment methodology (IIRSA, RL1); in 2010, a seminar on social dimensions of biofuel programmes in Latin America (RL1); in 2012, a seminar on the meaning of everyday life in urban surroundings (RL2). In addition, several smaller events will be organized, and the researchers will present their results in various international seminars and conferences. Notably, academic publications are the main goal of the CEDLA Research Programme 2009-2013. The researchers will publish their results in refereed international journals. The Cuadernos del CEDLA series will produce on average two issues per year related to this research programme. Moreover, a (preliminary) list of books, edited volumes and special issues of journals is planned on the following: the social dimensions of biofuel in Latin America; the strategic environmental assessment methodology (IIRSA); the new Latin American politics of natural resource extraction; on the moving imagery of communication in Lima; the schemata of the Cholo culture of Lima; housing in urban Ecuador (in Spanish); on cultural tourism; on gender and tourism; managing everyday life in an urban context. Finally, this research programme will help to guide CEDLA’s educational programme, in particular the CEDLA Master’s Programme and its master thesis projects. Next to individual courses, the possibilities for integrative master courses will be explored by the members of the two research lines. In addition, there will be a bachelor minor on everyday urban life, consisting of three courses. And external graduate students and YES students (Young Excellent Scholars) will be invited to participate in various research projects.
