However, the recording power of the laser can be
attenuated by fine dust particles that build up on the
lens surface. This results in poorer recording signal
quality and more errors, and in the worst cases, the data
cannot be read at all. The high-performance recording
layer used in Fujifilm’s BD-R/RE discs ensures wide
power margins. This means you can make accurate
recordings even from a weaker laser.

StorageIQ
Fujifilm’s StorageIQ provides a simple, affordable,
non-intrusive method for monitoring, validating and
reporting on the performance, utilization and health of
the entire physical tape library environment.
Maximize Utilization
and Performance of
the Tape Library
With the information
provided in RVA’s
reports, an administrator
ReadVerify
Appliance (RVA)
can maximize and
balance the utilization and performance of the library’s
tape drives. This leads to: completing backup jobs on
time, minimizing purchases of unnecessary drives,
eliminating maintenance on unnecessary equipment and
preventing premature wear of over-used resources.
®
Extend the Life of Tape Media and Drives
Proactively assessing tape media validity over its effective
life, RVA tracks the capability of the backup system to
read media and analyzes results over time. Results are
compared against a user-defined set of policies, and
users are alerted to suspect media and drives before a
backup failure occurs.
44
Minimize Data Risk
By monitoring the health and integrity of the tape drives
and media, RVA provides a proactive indication of the
data at risk. RVA tracks and correlates reported media
errors on tapes and drives over their effective life,
providing the means to determine whether the media or
device is operating below manufacturers’ recommended
standards. By swiftly identifying the degrading asset,
corrective action can be taken to quickly minimize risk
to data.
StorageIQ Plus
The following optional services are available through
StorageIQ Plus:
• Archive Verification Service
• Library Overview Analysis
Archive Verification Service
The Archive Verification Service provides full audits of all
selected tapes, presenting clearly documented records
for regulatory compliance or Service Level Agreement
(SLA) audits. By verifying media stored in the library, your
company can lower costs associated with tape and be
assured that data will be recoverable when needed.
Library Overview Analysis
The Library Overview Analysis Service offers insight into
the root causes of data errors, incomplete backups, system bottlenecks, and component failures, while minimizing
the risk to corporate data. Users can analyze their tape
library environments through convenient monthly reports
and charts delivered through a secure web portal.

About NANOCUBIC and
Barium-Ferrite Magnetic Particles
Already recognized by the industry as an enterprise-class
tape solution, Fujifilm NANOCUBIC technology combines
nano-scale particles, a unique
dual-coating process and advanced
dispersion techniques to achieve an
ultra-thin magnetic layer that produces higher resolution for recording
digital data, ultra-low noise and high
signal-to-noise ratios that are ideal for Magneto-Resistive and
Giant Magneto-Resistive heads. Fujifilm’s newest generation
tape storage media applies NANOCUBIC technology to
barium-ferrite particles, a naturally
stable crystalline particle that does
not corrode or change chemically
over time, making it an optimal
particle for data storage applications.
Due to the crystalline anisotropy,
the ultra-fine barium-ferrite particles have high coercivity for
superior performance high density recording. The unique
Fujifilm NANOCUBIC technology coats the barium-ferrite
particles in a very uniform manner (with thickness variation of
less than 10 percent across the length of the tape), resulting
in a much smoother magnetic surface to significantly
enhance performance.
