Household items WHAT IS A HOUSEHOLD ITEM? Household items are household equipment, furniture and fittings which, while not being considered personal belongings, are worthy for domestic use and comfort. Among the household items are: - Electronic equipment, electric or lasting appliances (fan, TV set, freezer, refrigerator, digital radio, etc.) Up to 2 items of the same type, - lasting items such as grinder, chopper, peeling machine, hairdryer, coffee maker, coffee mill, among others), - cockers whether electric or not, - cutlery, table linen, glassware, dressing table (tablecloth, towel, sheets, bathroom curtain), home decorations, furniture sets for living room, dining room, terrace, mattress, etc. Items considered to be household items are duty free. WHAT IS NOT CONSIDERED A HOUSEHOLD ITEM? - pumps or motors, foodstuffs, - construction or house repair materials, 1/3 Household items - spare parts and accessories of any kind, machine tools, bathroom fittings, fences, paintings, motor vehicles, ships, aircraft and parts and accessories and; any other goods not classified as household item. WHO CAN IMPORT HOUSEHOLD ITEMS AND UNDER WHAT TERMS AND CONDITIONS? The term to exercise the right to import household items is six (6) months: - Foreigners who obtain their permanent residence in the national territory, as from the date they are granted it. - Permanent residents in the national territory, upon their definite return after having worked or studied abroad, accomplishing an official mission, for more than two years as from their return after the mission is completed. - Cubans who have cancelled their residence permit and have lived for more tan two years abroad, as from the date when the permit was cancelled and permanent residence was granted. - Foreign service officials of the Republic of Cuba, as from the date of their return to the country. - Foreigners who buy or rent houses or apartments to authorized real estate companies, have the right to import household items, as long as the contract is in force and they have not previously exercised this right. OTHER REQUIREMENTS AND CONDITIONS TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT WHEN IMPORTING HOUSEHOLD ITEMS 2/3 Household items - Household items shall be shipped to Cuba from the same country where the passenger comes from . - When passengers exercising the right to import household items travel with their families, they are authorized to bring only one set of household items. - To authorize the number of household items to be imported (household equipment and furniture), they should be in correspondence with the number of rooms of the house where they will be placed. In the case of electrical appliances, only two (2) of each type will be accepted exempt from payment. - Household items are shipped as an indivisible unit. Shipment of household items separately is not authorized. - Household items must be dealt with by the person entitled for this purpose. When this person cannot do so, written exceptional authorization by the Head of Customs Clearance Department must be requested. IMPORT OF THE FOLLOWING ITEMS AS HOUSEHOLD ITEMS IS NOT ALLOWED - Prohibited items - Items which, to be imported, are subjected to have a required permit or authorization by the competent authority and does not have it. - Items which do not qualify as household items. 3/3
