PRODUCT: Left turn audible warning device Description: A left turn audible warning alarm alerts cyclists (and other road users) that an HGV is turning left by way of a recorded message or alarm. The message is usually triggered when the vehicle is travelling below a pre-determined speed and the left turn indicator is selected. The recorded message (dependent on the product manufacturer) can often be tailored, for example to reference the company that operates the vehicle. The left turn audible warning alerts pedestrians, cyclists and other road users, in contrast with other forms of cycle safety technology which provide an in-cab alert for the driver. Availability: Immediate, off the shelf. Time to fit: 2 hours to one day depending on product Price Band: £170-190 Advantages: Unique in that it provides an audible bespoke warning for other road users, whilst alternative visual measures may not be picked up by cyclists, or they may not sustain the same impact over time. The bespoke nature of the warning (typically a recorded voice) is likely to improve the chances of cyclists hearing the warning. Disadvantages: Whilst unlikely given the volume of the recorded message, there may be localised noise which drowns out the warning.
