Project Description:
Arrowhead Regional First 5 Dental Program is committed to improving the oral health of very young
children by ensuring that at least 8,500 children (5 years of age and under) residing in San Bernardino
County will have the opportunity for dental education, dental screening exams and referral to treatment
providers (dentists). At least 75 pregnant mothers will receive at least one dental treatment and at least
1,500 parents will be educated directly related to each child’s needs in terms of insurance usage, level
of care needed, and guidance for prevention and ongoing oral health.
In the endeavor to increase sustainable dental services, the dental program will bring dental prevention
awareness to the pediatric physician’s office where dental caries prevention can be assisted at an
earlier stage of tooth eruption (during infant/child well-checks and immunization appointments.)
Monthly lectures will be conducted with pediatricians in San Bernardino County, where 150 pediatric
physicians/residents will be instructed in the techniques of fluoride varnish application as part of the
child’s immunization appointment. Arrowhead Regional First 5 Dental’s goal is that physician’s offices
will incorporate these practices and will continue to provide these services (long-term) for the benefit of
children in San Bernardino County.

By June 30, 2011 of the 8500 participants in the A.R.M.C. Dental Program, 1500 children and 75

Performance Target #2: By June 30, 2011, ,1500 parents will receive oral health education from the
