A Message From The
COMMANDER
Greetings to our VFW Comrades, Auxiliary and Social Members.
Another summer has passed - thank you
to all who volunteered and/or attended
the Post functions over the summer. We
look forward to cooler weather with fall
and winter and the many upcoming
activities.
Veteran members who pay their dues
annually, please be sure to pay them by
the end of the year to remain a member
in good standing. Consider changing
your annual membership to a life membership. Life Membership cost is based

VA Expands Review of Chemical
Exposure in Drinking Water at Marine
Corps Base Camp Lejeune. This process
is in addition to the healthcare VA already
provides for 15 conditions to eligible
Veterans who served at Camp Lejeune
Visit us at

for at least 30 days between August 1,
1953 and December 31, 1987. VA also
provides reimbursement of healthcare
expenses for those 15 conditions to
eligible family members who resided at
Camp Lejeune during that time period.
Veterans with health problems they
believe are related to exposure to the
water at Camp Lejeune should contact
the nearest VA healthcare facility by
calling 1-877-222-VETS (8387).

NEWS BRIEFS
Social Member Renewals - Dues
are $35 per year and are due no later
than Dec. 31, 2016. You may pay your
dues and receive your new membership
card beginning October 1. Members who
have not paid by Dec. 31 will no longer be
a member and will have their post
privileges suspended. If you renew your
membership in January, you will be
required to pay a late fee of $10. If renewing after Jan. 31, members will need to
reapply for membership including the $25
application fee.

$100 of the life membership, if paid
through the Post.
I encourage each of you to attend the
monthly meetings: veteran and home
association (for all members) on the third
Tuesday of the month and the auxiliary
meets the last Tuesday.

the Canteen a total of three times in a calendar
year. Members must sign guests in each visit.
After the third visit, guests must either join the

Voice of Democracy - students in
grades 9-12 have an opportunity to win a
$30,000 scholarship! Write and record a 3-5
minute essay; the 2016-17 theme is: My

Patriot’s Pen - students in grades 6 - 8
have an opportunity to win $5,000 and an
all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C.
Write a 300-400 word essay; the 2016-17
theme is: The America I Believe In.
Encourage students to write their essay!

AUXILIARY PRESIDENT
Auxiliary Dues Your 2017 dues (in the
amount of $20) are now due. Please pay
before December 23, 2016. We must have
all dues in Harrisburg by 12/31/16. You can
mail or drop your dues off at the Post and
place them in the Aux Office door slot. If
dues are not paid and received in Harrisburg
by 1/1/17 you will NOT be a member in good
standing.

Sandwich Sale Thank you for supporting
our 3rd Ham and Turkey Sandwich Sale.
Thank you to all those who ordered, made
signs and order forms, sliced meat & cheese
and those who gave us a hand putting the
sandwiches together. It was a fun day.
New Membership Anyone interested in
joining the VFW Auxiliary, please complete
the application found on the Aux Office door.
Submit application, DD214, $20.00 dues
plus $5.00 for processing. After your application is approved at the Auxiliary meeting, you
will receive your membership card and key
card. Since your application was approved
after July your dues carry you until 12/2017.
Veteran Day Program Our Veteran
Day Program will be Friday, 11/11/16 at 8 pm
in the Post Dining Room. It is a time to honor
and remember the men and women who
have served in the Armed Forces of this
great country. They all deserve our respect
and gratitude. Plan on attending on 11/11/16
at 8 pm to honor our Veterans. We are a
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post -- be sure to
THANK a veteran.
Life Membership Anyone thinking about
life membership, do it before the end of the
year. We have received information that they
will raise by 15% for 2017. NEVER PAY
DUES AGAIN.
Children's Christmas Party Please
watch the TV screens at the Post in November for more details. The Party date is
12/11/16.
Sub Sales Another September has passed
and Fall Sub Sales have begun. Get your
orders in for October and November when
the time comes up. Please get orders in by
6 pm the Wednesday that they are due. This
is our main fundraiser and we hope you will
continue to support the VFW Auxiliary Sub
Sales as you have in the past. The profit
raised enables us to pay our State and
National obligations as well as make many
other donations. Thank you sub sellers, sub
makers and all those who play a part in this

It is hard to believe but 2016 is coming to a
close. I would like to say THANK YOU to all
of Auxiliary members, Social members,
