Professor Dr. Wan Kamal Mujani Wan Kamal Mujani is a Professor at the Department of Arabic Studies and Islamic Civilization, Faculty of Islamic Studies, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). He was appointed as Head of Quality Management, Faculty of Islamic Studies (20072009), Deputy Director of Centre for Extensional Education (2009) and Deputy Director of the Institute of West Asian Studies (2010-2012). He was a teacher at the primary and secondary schools before joining Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 1993. He has more than twenty years of experience in academic fields such as History and Islamic Civilization, Muslim Historiography and Arabic Texts and Sources in Islamic History. His main research interest has been in the areas of Islamic Historiography and Economic History in the Middle East, Levant & Mediterranean. He has written extensively mainly on the subject of Mamluk economy during the medieval period. Some of his research has been presented at economic history conferences and published in Malaysian and international quality journals. Wan Kamal received a degree (B.A Hons.) from al-Azhar Egypt, a M.A from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and a Ph.D. in Economic History from The University of Manchester, United Kingdom. Currently, he is actively conducting research on Muslim Contemporaries such as Muslim Middle Class, Extremism, Moderate/Wasatiyyah, The Bottom 40, Arab Spring and Wakaf.
