ISBN#: 978-0-07-310597-0. COURSE OBJECTIVE: General Business 101 provides the learner with a broad survey of the essential areas and functions of the modern business organization. The learner will be able to identify these essential areas/functions and associated major decision factors. COURSE OUTCOMES: A. B. C. D. E. F. G. H. Understand the operation of business and the “Free Enterprise System” within the overall American economy as compared with other economic systems. Understand the ethical practices of business with rightful assumption of social responsibilities. Explain the impact and potential of international business. Explain how business is organized and functions internally with respect to management and employee relations. Demonstrate understanding of the roles and relationships of management, labor, government, and society with and between businesses. Demonstrate understanding of how goods and services are produced, priced, promoted, and distributed to meet consumer demand and to satisfy consumer needs. Demonstrate understanding of the finance, accounting and profitability of business. Understand the various job and career opportunities in today’s and tomorrow’s business world. COURSE REQUIRMENTS: (1) Successfully demonstrate understanding and mastery of course concepts. (2) Completion of evaluation criteria assigned. COMPONENTS OF GRADE: Your grade will be determined in the following manner: (1) There are four objective exams, worth 100 points each. (a) You may use all four exams to determine your grade (or) (b) You may complete an optional case study project in place of your lowest exam score. Optional Case Study Projects must be turned in no later than the end of Friday, Dec 12, 2008, 12 midnight. See “CASE STUDY PROJECT” link on the main menu in Blackboard for detailed instructions on completing this project. (c) Exams must be taken during the test week shown in this syllabus. If you take an exam late there will be a penalty of 10% per day that it is taken late. Permission to take exams late will be rare, and given only in the case of DIRE EMERGENCY. (d) Your test scores will be available immediately after you finish each exam (If you have questions about exam performance please contact your instructor the week following test week).
