MAXIMIZING YOUR LEADERSHIP POTENTIAL AUDIENCE First-time managers and/or managers of individual contributors who may have been promoted recently or are experiencing new pressures within a current management role. Overview Maximizing Your Leadership Potential tailors leadership development to the needs of employees in transition from individual contributors to managers. The program immerses participants in four fundamental areas: self-awareness, learning agility, communication, and influence. In addition, two issues that are particularly challenging for most first-time managers—managing conflict and building relationships—are also explored. Preparing First-Time Managers to Achieve Lasting Results Through People AGENDA PHASE ONE: Getting Started Maximizing Your Leadership Potential starts with personal leadership assessments that tailor the program to the specific needs of each participant. Often cited as the most valuable aspect of the program experience, the assessment begins several weeks in advance and engages the participant and his or her co-workers (superiors, direct reports, and peers). Phase Two: On-Site Training (Three Days) Day One: Self-Awareness and Communication • Leadership transition lessons • Leader assessment: Understanding your strengths and development needs • Leader assessment: Interpersonal needs • Communication effectiveness Throughout this interactive program, participants focus on specific skills and how-tos that they can set in motion right away. They come away with a stronger connection to their roles as managers and are more prepared to drive action by leading others. Day Two: Influence and Constructive Responses to Conflict • Strategies for strengthening relationships in the workplace by influencing and responding constructively to conflict OUTCOMES Day Three: Leading Within a System • Integration: One-on-one session with an NLI coach • I ncrease the commitment and engagement of the team. • Leader assessment: Personality preference • Videotaped practice on managing conflict, facilitated by NLI coaches • Key leadership challenge strategy • B uild sustainable relationships and increase productivity. • Individual goal development and action plans • Leverage the power of conflict. PHASE THREE: Application • Influence others by connecting their motivations and needs to the needs of the project. To support the lessons of the program, NLI offers participants a 45-minute telephone coaching session after the on-site training.
