No task is too small or too big, and you are very welcome to make use of our technical expertise and know-how, even in the planning and design phase. Why use vibration dampers? Wherever there is machinery, there is also vibration. Vibration dampers are used to protect people, machinery or buildings from unnecessary and hazardous strain caused by vibration or its associated shock and noise. To help you find the ideal damper, we need to know the following: People are not always aware of how irritating vibration really is, or of the injuries and damage it can cause. Considerable financial and environmental benefits can, however, often be gained from damping vibration. Vibration dampers extend the service life of machinery and equipment, reduce the need for building maintenance and improve the health and well-being of staff. • rotation speed/frequency • machine type • machine weight • no. of mountings • installation environment. In most cases, investing in vibration dampers is relatively inexpensive but the results are both appreciable and effective. 4 Herlev +45 4485 8100 • Bramming +45 7656 2600 • www.betech.dk vibration dampers FUNCTION OF A FLEXIBLE MOUNTING SYSTEM Dynamic function This is the primary function of elastic suspensions where there is vibration or shock. The calculations presented here assume that the linear stiffness of the mountings remains constant. This is true for elastomeric mountings in normal conditions of use (mechanical vibration, normal temperature). Vibrations with only one degree of freedom The action of a flexible mounting system is very complex. To present the principles, we will study a simple idealised case (fig. 3). Z The equation of motion is: z = A sin ωo t The natural pulsation is: ωo = ωo Proper frequency Fp = ____ 2π √ MK ___ The oscillation continues indefinitely with an amplitude A. b) Damped In this case, the machine oscillates about its position of equilibrium with a damped sinusoidal motion (see Fig. 4). The equation of motion is: Machine z = A.e - ε’oω’ot .sin ω’ot The natural pulsation is: G ω’o = M Flexible mounting S 2 2 ε’o is the damping factor at the frequency ω’o. As ε’o is very close to εo, the natural frequency may, therefore, be written as: Fig. 3 Taking the case of a machine of mass M constrained so that it can only move in a direction parallel to the vertical axis Gz. It is attached to its seatings by a flexible mounting S with a stiffness K along the axis Gz. z Free oscillation (natural frequency) a) Undamped (entirely theorical) The machine, having been displaced from its position of equilibrium by a distance A, oscillates sinusoidally. K (1 - ε’o ) = ωo 1 - ε’o √___ √ M ω’o ωo √1 - ε 2 o For natural rubber, εo is small by comparison with 1 (from 0.02 to 0.1). ω’ο is, therefore, very close to ωo. 2π ___ ωo 2π ___ ωo A π ___ 5π ___ 2ωo 2ωo 0 3π ___ 2ωo t 7π ___ 2ωo Fig. 4 Herlev +45 4485 8100 • Bramming +45 7656 2600 • www.betech.dk 5 5 vibration dampers Forced Vibration If the machine is now subject to forced vertical vibration induced by a sinusoidal force of frequency ω. The inducing force is F = FM sin ωt. Attenuation For rubber mountings, the term 4 ε 02 is much smaller than 1. The attenuation in % is 1 – λ: ( ωω ) - 2 E% = 100 _______ ( ωω ) - 1 2 0 - For a rigid suspension: the inducing force is transmitted directly to the structure the machine is mounted on. 1 ( 1- ______ ) ω (ω ) - 1 2 0 For a given induced frequency ω the attenuation depends on the natural frequency of the suspension. For a particular direction, the relationship between the natural frequency, the suspension’s subtangent and the induced frequency are plotted on the chart fig. 6 (page 8). When the inducing force is applied, an oscillation is induced at the natural frequency ωο, which dies away rapidly so that, after a short period, only the steady state forced vibration at frequency ω remains which transmits a sinusoidal force to the surrounding structure. The force transmitted is: F’ = F’M sin ωt. A transmission coefficient λ is defined as the ratio between the amplitude of the force transmitted F’M to the amplitude of the inducing force FM (or, if preferred, the force that would be transmitted if the suspension was not elastic). For a mounting system using elastomeric mounts, this coefficient is: √( or 100 0 - For an elastic suspension with a natural ωo and frequency ωο or proper frequency Fp =____ 2π damping factor εo. F' M = λ = ____ FM 2 For a particular induced frequency (for example 1500 rpm) it is possible to find the subtangent, which will provide an acceptable attenuation. In general, an attenuation greater than 50 % is required. For this example, the chart indicates that an attenuation of 80 % will be achieved for a natural frequency of 10 Hz. 1 + 4 ε 02 _____________ 2 2 2 1- ω + 4 ε0 2 ω0 ) To summarise: Rigid system Flexible system (ω0, ε0) Inducing force F = FM sin ωt F = FM sin ωt Transmitted force F = FM sin ωt F’ = F’M sin ωt Transmission coefficient λ=1 F' M = λ = ____ FM 1+4 ε √(_____________ 1- ω ) +4 ε 2 0 2 2 ω20 The variations of the transmission, coefficient λ, as ω a function of ω0 for various values of ε0 are shown in fig. 5 (page 7). 6 Herlev +45 4485 8100 • Bramming +45 7656 2600 • www.betech.dk 2 0 vibration dampers Transmission coefficient Transmission coefficient 5 εο = 0 4 Attenuation Amplification ε ο = 0,1 3 ε ο = 0,2 2 1 ω ___ ωο 1 √2 ω ___ ωo = 1 λ > Resonance amplitude at resonance which increases asεο decreases. ω ___ = ωo √2 λ < 1 Attenuation (or vibration isolation) region. ω As ___ increases, λ decreases. ωo = εo has very little effect. ω ___ < √2, λ > 1 ωo Amplification region for any εo. In these cases, the vibration isolation should be determined for the lowest speed. b - Passing through resonance All machines must start and stop. Starting from rest to reach the speed ω (in the vibration isolation region), it is necessary to pass through the resonant region. It is neccesary to ensure: - that the passage through resonance is as quick as possible; - that the suspension is sufficiently well damped so that the maximum force transmitted presents no risk for the machine, the suspension or the seating. c - Elastomeric suspensions For the elastomers currently used in flexible mounting systems, the intrinsic damping factor ε0 lies between 0.02 and 0.1 (it can be as high as 0.2 with synthetics such as butyl rubber). - In the vibration isolation region, the formula for the transmission coefficient is simplified as, for the values of ε0 for natural rubber, the term 4 ε2ο is negligible by comparison with 1. 1 λ = _____ for ε0 between 0.02 and 0.1 ω 2 -1 ω20 1 - At resonance λr = _____ 2 ε0 1 ___ λ= 2ε For natural rubber, therefore, the amplification at resonance is between: 1 ____ =5 2 x 0.1 and 1 ____ = 25 2 x 0.02 Herlev +45 4485 8100 • Bramming +45 7656 2600 • www.betech.dk 9 9 Cylindrical dampers Applications Cylindrical vibration dampers are universal vibration isolators with a natural frequency of 15-20 Hz, depending on load. They are suitable for axial and radial loads. Advantages • Low cost. • Wide variety of sizes. Specifications • Standard materials are usually zinc-coated steel and natural rubber (NR). Metal connectors and elastomer parts can, however, be produced in a wide variety of materials, depending on the conditions of intended use. • If special conditions require it, we can, for example, in cooperation with our suppliers, produce metal parts in stainless steel and in AISI 304 or AISI 316 acid-resistant stainless steel. • Should the application make special requirements on elastomer type, e.g. resistance to ozone, UV radiation or chemicals, we can also supply appropriate solutions. • As standard, the various sizes (hxØ) are available with the following connector combinations: Type A: external/external thread Type B: external/internal thread Type C: internal/internal thread • Finally, we also offer impact buffers. These are described at the end of this section. 10 Herlev +45 4485 8100 • Bramming +45 7656 2600 • www.betech.dk Cylindrical dampers Type A Form d h I g 16 861/A 6 16 862/A 6 7 3 M3 7 6+3 M3 16 863/A 6 7 6 M3 16 871/A 8 8 6 M3 16 882/A 10 8 9 M4 16 881/A 10 10 9 M4 16 891/A 15 15 12 M5 16 892/A 15 20 12 M5 16 903/A 20 15 15 M6 16 901/A 20 20 15 M6 Standard hardness 40, 55 Shore A, NBR quality Form d h I g 21 682/A 25 326/A 15 8 10 M4 15 15 13 M4 25 259/A 15 30 16 M4 31 658/A 20 25 19 M6 25 388/A 25 10 18.5 M6 20 292a/A 25 15 18.5 M6 20 292/A 25 20 18.5 M6 21 239/A 25 30 18.5 M6 25 356/A 30 20 20.5 M8 31 660/A 30 30 20.5 M8 20 291/A 40 30 24.5 M8 27 796/A 40 40 24.5 M8 25 332/A 50 20 28 M 10 25 333/A 50 30 34 M 10 27 797/A 50 45 34 M 10 20 290a/A 70 35 25 M 10 20 290/A 70 45 25 M 10 20 290b/A 70 60 25 M 10 25 327/A 75 40 37 M 12 25 336/A 75 55 37 M 12 25 334/A 100 40 43 M 16 25 335/A 100 55 43 M 16 25 328/A 100 75 43 M 16 Standard hardness 40, 55, 65 Shore A Herlev +45 4485 8100 • Bramming +45 7656 2600 • www.betech.dk 11 11 Cylindrical dampers Type B Form d h I g 16 871/B 8 8 6 M3 16 881/B 10 10 9 M4 16 891/B 15 15 12 M5 16 892/B 15 20 12 M5 16 903/B 20 15 15 M6 16 901/B 20 20 15 M6 Standard hardness 40, 55 Shore A, NBR quality Form d h I g 25 326/B 15 15 13 M4 25 259/B 15 30 16 M4 31 658/B 20 25 19 M6 20 292a/B 25 15 18.5 M6 20 292/B 25 20 18.5 M6 21 239/B 25 30 18.5 M6 25 356/B 30 20 20.5 M8 31 660/B 30 30 20.5 M8 20 291/B 40 30 24.5 M8 27 796/B 40 40 24.5 M8 25 332/B 50 20 28 M 10 25 333/B 50 30 34 M 10 27 797/B 50 45 34 M 10 20 290/B 70 45 25 M 10 25 327/B 75 40 37 M 12 25 336/B 75 55 37 M 12 25 334/B 100 40 43 M 16 25 335/B 100 55 43 M 16 25 328/B 100 75 43 M 16 Standard hardness 40, 55, 65 Shore A 12 Herlev +45 4485 8100 • Bramming +45 7656 2600 • www.betech.dk Cylindrical dampers Type C Form d h g d1 16 872/C 8 10 M3 8 16 883/C 10 15 M4 10 16 891/C 15 15 M5 10 16 892/C 15 20 M5 10 16 901/C 20 20 M6 18 Standard hardness 40, 55 Shore A, NBR quality Form d h g 21 887/C 13 26 M4 25 326/C 15 15 M4 31 658/C 20 25 M6 25 356/C 30 20 M8 31 660/C 30 30 M8 20 291/C 40 30 M8 27 796/C 40 40 M8 27 797/C 50 45 M 10 20 290/C 70 45 M 10 25 336/C 75 55 M 12 25 335/C 100 55 M 16 25 328/C 100 75 M 16 31 475/C 150 55 ab 25 303/C 150 75 150 mm Ø 25 329/C 200 100 Bored out Standard hardness 40, 55, 65 Shore A Herlev +45 4485 8100 • Bramming +45 7656 2600 • www.betech.dk 13 13 Cylindrical dampers Type AK Form d h I g 58 302 20 15 19.0 M6 58 236 30 20 20.5 M8 58 237 50 30 34.0 M 10 58 238 75 40 37.0 M 12 Standard hardness 40, 55, 65 Shore A Type D Form d h I g 25 326/D 15 13 13 M4 25 259/D 15 28 16 M4 31 658/D 20 23 19 M6 25 388/D 25 8 18.5 M6 20 292a/D 25 13 18.5 M6 20 292/D 25 18 18.5 M6 21 239/D 25 28 18.5 M6 31 660/D 30 28 20.5 M8 20 291/D 40 28 24.5 M8 27 796/D 40 38 24.5 M8 25 332/D 50 17 28 M 10 25 333/D 50 28 34 M 10 27 797/D 50 42 34 M 10 20 290/D 70 42 25 M 10 25 327/D 75 36 37 M 12 25 336/D 75 51 37 M 12 25 334/D 100 36 43 M 16 25 335/D 100 50 43 M 16 Standard hardness 55 Shore A Type DS Form d h I g 25 326/S 15 14 13 M4 31 658/S 20 23,5 19 M6 20 292/S 25 18,5 18.5 M6 31 660/S 30 28,5 20.5 M8 20 291/S 40 28,5 24.5 M8 25 333/S 50 28 34 M 10 20 290/S 70 43 25 M 10 25 327/S 75 37 37 M 12 25 335/S 100 50 43 M 16 Standard hardness 55 Shore A 14 Herlev +45 4485 8100 • Bramming +45 7656 2600 • www.betech.dk Cylindrical dampers Impact buffers Form d h I g 25 444 X 25 16.5 18.5 M6 25 481 X 50 17 28 M 10 25 443 X 80 30 35 M 12 38 655 125 45 43 M 16 38 652 52 35 M 10 38 653 83 60 M 12 38 654 125 90 M 16 Standard hardness 55, X = also 40 and 65 Shore A Parabolic springs Form d h I g 58 496 20 58 495 30 24 19 M6 36 20.5 M8 58 497 50 58 28 M 10 58 498 75 89 37 M 12 58 102 115 136 43 M 16 58 499 165 195 43 M 16 Standard hardness 55 Shore A Herlev +45 4485 8100 • Bramming +45 7656 2600 • www.betech.dk 15 15 Universal mountings Paulstradyn Benefits Specifications • Over 90 % isolation at 1,500 rpm (25 Hz). sorer og generatorer.
