FY16 Infrastructure and Wireless RFP
Questions and Answers
Q. Is the Proposal DPS Infrastructure & Wireless RFP FY16 a Purchase & Install or a Purchase only
project?
A. This is a purchase and install project.
Q. Is it a term contract?
A. Hosted wireless would be a term contract. Any other designs would not be a term contract.
Q. Is there an estimated value/budget?
A. No.
Q. May we please have the proposed network diagrams of the proposed sites?
A. Network diagrams will be available at the walk-through on December 15. If you do not attend the
walk-through, you can request diagrams from Joe Ross at joe.ross@dalton.k12.ga.us
Q. Is the walk-through on December 15 mandatory?
A. The walk-through is not mandatory. All answered questions will be posted to the DPS website.
Q. Will each site consist of a single stack or multiple stacks? If multiple, how many per location?
A. There will be virtual chassis (stack) in each closet.
Q. Will we be implementing additional VLANs in each location at this time?
A. Yes. That will be a part of the ERate project.
Q. Over how many days are you allotting/planning for this deployment?
A. One site per day. Two days will be allotted for Dalton High School.
Q. In what order will be performing SOW tasks on the 7 locations?
A. The following sites will be first: DHS, City Park, and Roan. The rest will be in alphabetical order.
Q. What is the general proximity of the locations?
A. All sites are located within approx. 5-7 miles or less of each other. Dalton is a small town.
Q. How many IDF closets are in each location?
Brookwood - 2
Blue Ridge/Northstar - 4
City Park/101 Building/Annex - 5
Dalton High School - 9
Dalton Middle School - 10
Morris Innovative - 5
Park Creek - 5
Roan Street - 9

joe.ross@dalton.k12.ga.us
Q. Are there network diagrams for inter-location connectivity you could provide?
A. This will be provided at the walk-through or can be requested from Joe Ross,
joe.ross@dalton.k12.ga.us
Q. Will there be closet re-cabling and documentation happening during this implementation?
This was discussed while I was on-site during Phase I in order to track down ports and aid in
adding them to their required VLANs.
A. Closets are already cabled with Cat. 6
We will be replacing some of the patch cables with shorter ones, though.
The vertical managers are packed too tight. We are ordering some 1’ cables so we can go from the patch
panel directly down to the switches immediately below.
Q. Is there anything to make note of at any of the locations which differs from the general infrastructure
of Dalton High School?
A. Most of the closets are smaller with fewer drops at the smaller locations. Some locations include
mobile units.
Q. teacher location drop- Do we plug the patch cord into existing location or remove jack and cable and
install above ceiling?
A. It would be preferable to install above the ceiling. In some rooms there will be a drop in the ceiling
already, generally near the projector, that can be used.
Q. How many students attend each school?
A. Attendance Counts:
BR: 665
BW: 620
CP: 815
DHS: 1,848
DMS: 1,731
MIHS: 264
PC: 782
ROAN: 505
WW: 566
Q. Will you provide configuration of data drops for Annex-C3?
A. We will provide designated locations and configuration for drops at C3 center. There are two labs
currently networked with Cat. 5 that we want to upgrade to Cat. 6, plus some additional drops to be
installed at various locations in the building. These are to be permanently installed Cat. 6 drops run with
solid plenum rated cable with Panduit (preferred) Cat. 6 termination on each end. (Not patch cables run
through the ceiling)
Q. What are you currently using for your WLAN?
A. 3 elementary schools have Dell/Aruba wireless LANS, the remaining 3 elementary, one middle, and 2
High Schools have Xirrus arrays. Dalton Middle School has Dell/Aruba in one wing and the new gym
area, and Xirrus in the rest of the building.
Q. Is this a new project or an expansion?
A. Dalton Middle is an expansion of the Dell/Aruba system, and the Xirrus will be removed there. Dalton
HS is remove and replace. Xirrus will come out and Dell/Aruba or comparable will be installed there.
Q. How many buildings are you looking to install WiFi in?
A. WLAN equipment will be installed in 2 (large) buildings as part of this project. Additionally, DMS has 2
portable classrooms that also will receive new APs. These portables already have LAN connections and
PoE switch in place.
Q. Any sort of initiatives? (guest access, 1:1, BYOD, online testing)
A. Initiatives for this include: 1:1, BYOD, online testing.
Q. Driving factor?
A. Driving factors include: guest access, Erate funding, and the general movement of more educational
