!!!!!!!!CF Card Rules There are (3) different sets of CF rules, depending on the Barudan model type, and system software in the machine. Check the (3) selections below, and click on the one that applies to the machine in question. Rules 1 Click Here D-Series machines BEDS, BEDY models with system software version 3.20 or less. BEDT models with system software version 2.30 or less Rules 2 Click Here D-Series machines BEDS, BEDY models with system software version 3.30 or higher. BEDT models with system software version 2.40 or higher Rules 3 All V-Series machines BEVS, BEVY models BEVT models Click Here Rules 1. D-Series Machines (Prior to DT System Software 2.40 R00 and DS/DY Software 3.30 R00) • • • • • Can only use FAT (16) Formatted CF cards up to 128Mb Can use long folder and file names up to 32 characters long Maximum 50 Design folders with .FDR file extension on a CF card Maximum 36 Designs in a folder, with U01 ~ U36 file extension. *Cannot duplicate same file extensions in a folder. Does not support Tajima designs. Notes: This rule applied to all the first Barudan D-Series machines, when FAT (16) cards were the norm. However, later on CF manufacturers started discontinuing the FAT (16) cards and going with larger capacities with FAT 32 formatting. As a result, Barudan released new system software to allow these older Barudans to read these new higher capacity CF cards. See Rules 2 for details on upgrade. * In an .FDR folder, there should only be .u01 ~ .u36 files and .bmps files. If there are any other file types in this folder, delete them, or move them to another location. Also, you cannot have (2) .u01 files in a folder. If you have a duplication, you must rename one of these file extensions to the next highest .uxx number, or delete the one that’s not needed. Recommendations: 1. Although long folder and designs names are allowed, it’s recommended to keep these names simple, and use 8 characters or less. Any problems reading or recognizing a folder or design, please try renaming them with a simple alphanumeric 8-character name (with no spaces or special characters). Not only does this fix problems, but also the machine only shows up to 8 characters for design names on the display. Any names longer than 8 characters, is automatically shorten and hard to read on the machine display. 2. Upgrade the system software on the machine to allow use of larger size CF cards (up to 2Gb) • DT machines, install system software V2.60 r00 or higher • DS/DY machines, install system software 4.20 r00 or higher (See Rules 2 after upgrade) Rules 2 D-Series Machines (With software update and newer: DT System Software 2.40 R00 and DS/DY Software 3.30 R00) • • • • • • Can use FAT (16) and FAT 32 Formatted CF cards up to 2Gb Can only use folder and file names up to 8 characters long Maximum 50 Design folders on a CF card Maximum 100 Designs in a folder Saving Barudan Designs o Must use .FDR folder extension o *Can use .U01 ~ U36 file extensions for designs. o Can use same file extension for designs, ie (100) .U01 designs in a folder. Can save Tajima Designs. o Must use .TFD folder extension. o Use .DST or .DSB design file extensions. Notes: Rules 2 was a result of Barudan upgrading the system software on the D-Series machines to read the newer High Capacity, FAT32 CF cards. 2 new additional features were added with the software update. 1. Can now save Tajima designs in a .TFD folder. 2. .FDR folders can have multiple .U01 files in it. Previous software only allowed (1) .u01 design file, (1) .u02, (1) .u03 and so forth, up to .u36. Therefore maximum amount of designs was 36 in an .FDR folder. This new update allows up to 100 designs to be read in a folder. Drawbacks The biggest drawback with this update is that the folders and file names can only have 8 characters or less, or they will not be read on the machine. So, if you had a CF card with designs on it, that read OK before the update, you may not be able to read some folders and designs after the update. To fix these folder/files names, they need to be renamed with 8 characters or less. Recommendations: 1. Any problems reading or recognizing a folder or design, please try renaming them with a simple alphanumeric 8-character name (with no spaces or special characters). 2. Use system software Version 2.60 r00 or higher for DT machines. And Version 4.20 r00 or higher for the DS/DY machines. This newer software corrects problems with writing .bmp thumbprints of the designs that are displayed on the machine. Also, this new software will give an A20 error when reading file names that are longer than 8 characters in a folder. Previous software didn’t give an error, just simply ignored these files. *New software also allows .u00 ~ .u99 design file extensions to be used in .FDR folders. Rules 3 V-Series Machines • • • • • • Can use FAT (16) and FAT 32 Formatted CF cards up to 2Gb Can use folder and file names up to 32 characters long. Maximum 50 Design folders. Maximum 100 Designs in a folder. Saving Barudan Designs o Must use .FDR folder extension o * Can use .U01 ~ U36 file extensions for designs. o Can use same file extension for designs, ie (100) .U01 designs in a folder. Can save Tajima Designs. o Must use .TFD folder extension. o Use .DST or .DSB design file extensions Recommendations: 1. 3. Use system software Version 1.40 r00 or higher for VS/VY and VT machines. This newer software corrects problems with writing .bmp thumbprints of the designs that are displayed on the machine. If you use file names with 8 characters or less, this software should eliminate any problems with .bmps. If not, bitmaps may not be accurate to design name. *New software also allows .u00 ~ .u99 design file extensions to be used in .FDR folders.
