APPLICATION
Kiepe pull rope emergency stop switches are used according to DIN
EN 620 requirements together with functionally suited accessories,
largely consisting of pull rope, tension springs and eyebolts, for
the assembly of emergency stop systems at fixed belt conveyors.
These emergency stop systems meet the requirements of international safety standards to ensure safety at work and to prevent
damage and destruction of the machine (BGI 710).
OPERATION
The emergency stop function is implemented with positive making
normally closed contacts according to the closed circuit principle.
The direct operating switching mechanism inside the switch is of
snap action and is actuated when the pull rope is either pulled
in any direction or if the rope breaks. After the triggering of the
emergency stop function, the switching mechanism locks in the off
position. Through manual actuation of the blue reset lever locally
at the pull rope switch the switching mechanism is reset to the
operating position and the belt conveyor is prepared for start-up.
The resetting of the switching mechanism may not start the belt
conveyor.
With the HEN type pull rope switch, the pull rope is symmetrically
tensioned on both sides of the red release lever and thus a
complete compensation of the rope forces at the release lever
is achieved. For this reason, double-sided pull rope switches of
the HEN design are especially suitable for outdoor use with large
changes of the ambient temperature (summer – winter) of up to
60°C and more.

The pull rope switches are aligned along the construction of a
belt conveyor using tension springs, eyebolts, pull rope and
turnbuckles. One tension spring is installed at fixed points on both
sides of the pull rope switch via an swing hook according to the assembly diagram. Starting at the tension springs, the pull rope is led
through the eyebolts and hooked on both sides of the release lever
of the switch with turnbuckles. The pull rope is tensioned with the
turnbuckles in such a way that equal forces act on both sides of the
release lever and it is found in the vertical operating position. The
tension of the rope has to be strong enough to actuate the switch
if the rope breaks.
The pull rope switch has to be positioned in the middle between
the two fixed points. The maximum distance between the fixed
points should not exceed approximately 100 m. The choice of
the distance between the eyebolts is dependent on the ambient
temperature range and the length of the pull rope. A value of
approximately 2.5 m is recommended. The actuating travel of the
tension springs must be limited. The function of the emergency
stop system shall be checked in regular intervals of about 2 to 3
month.
