energy saving solutions Insulation Jackets Promoting Energy Savings & Workplace Safety I nsula tio n J a c k e ts Insulation Jackets Promoting Energy Savings & Workplace Safety Install Removable Insulation Jackets Benefits: Often steam traps, valves and controls valves are not insulated or have permanent insulation that has been damaged or removed to allow for routine maintenance, troubleshooting or trap surveys. • Reduce potential personnel hazard • Conserve energy by reducing heat loss Exposed traps and valves pose not only a safety hazard to personnel but also represent a tremendous source of heat loss. Spirax Sarco removable insulation pads are made from a high-quality, flexible and non-combustible silicone cloth inner liner, 1” thick Tempmat fiberglass insulation and Teflon coated fiberglass outer liner. These removable insulation jackets will provide your organization with a safe and affordable way to reduce energy loss, and increase safety. • Improve the overall plant energy Applications & Advantages: Reusable insulation jackets are commonly used in many commercial and industrial applications with irregular surfaces that are difficult to insulate using conventional methods or where the insulation is removed at regular intervals for the purposes of routine maintenance, troubleshooting or surveys. The pads are extremely flexible, durable, and vibration-resistant and can be installed on irregular or difficult to access surfaces. All high temperature equipment, valves, fittings & traps should be insulated to reduce heat loss, reduce noise & improve safety. Availability: Spirax Sarco insulation jackets for standard parts are available in stock. Please allow 2-3 weeks delivery for orders including large quantities. For non-standard parts, contact one of our account executives to discuss custom insulation jacket options. efficiency • Prevent or reduce damage to equipment from fire/corrosive atmosphere • Provide additional noise attenuation spiraxsarco.com/ca Feel the difference See the difference! B ef o r e A f t er With a thermal imaging camera you can see the difference that an insulation jacket has when applied to a steam trap. Prior to installation of the insulation jacket, the steam trap reached an external temperature of 115°C (indicated by the bright yellow areas of the image). This trap was hazardous to the touch, and was producing quite an amount of heat loss. With the installation of an insulation jacket the external temperature was reduced to 27°C (as indicated by the purple colour on the image). This trap was now losing considerably less heat, and more importantly safe to the touch. Protection from extreme operating temperatures It’s common in an industrial environment for equipment to frequently face extreme hot or cold. Such extreme temperatures can lower lifespans of the equipment producing the heat, as well as the equipment nearby. Constant superheating and cooling is hard on even the toughest machinery and equipment by causing imperceptible expansion and contraction, which will degrade equipment integrity. Our removable insulation can absorb and retain heat to help keep temperatures moderate and help your equipment last longer. I nsula tio n r et ur n J a c k e ts on inves tme n t The following table summarizes the energy savings from the use of Spirax Sarco Insulation Jackets for a range of Spirax Sarco standard parts. These values are calculated using the NAIMA (North American Insulation Manufacturer’s Association) 3E Plus computer program Energy savings is defined as the difference in heat loss between the uninsulated item and the insulated item operating at the same temperature. Energy savings are evaluated at an operating temperature of 300ºF which corresponds to an operating saturated steam temperature of approximately 50 psig. Conditions: Ambient Temp.
