Instruction Bulletin EAV76011 Rev. 01, 04/2016 QO™ Surgebreaker™ Surge Protective Device (SPD) QOSPD20 Surge Protective Device (SPD) Retain for future use. / Su rge B rea ker QOSPD20 230V On R eplace 20 kA max. surge Introduction The QOSPD20 Surge Protective Device (SPD) is designed to fit in a single pole circuit breaker space. It fits all Square D™ brand QO load centers and is designed for surge suppression of 230 V single phase, three-wire, 50 Hz electrical services and appliances. Note: Use on solidly grounded systems only. Precautions DANGER / HAZARD OF ELECTRIC SHOCK, EXPLOSION, OR ARC FLASH • Apply appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safe electrical work practices. • This equipment must only be installed and serviced by qualified electrical personnel. • Turn off all power supplying this equipment before working on or inside equipment. • Always use a properly rated voltage sensing device to confirm power is off. • Replace all devices, doors and covers before turning on power to this equipment. Failure to follow these instructions will result in death or serious injury. Note: QO™ Surgebreaker™ Surge Protective Device (SPD) QOSPD20 Surge Protective Device (SPD) EAV76011 Rev. 01, 04/2016 WARNING / INADEQUATE GROUNDING HAZARD Do not use on ungrounded systems. Failure to follow these instructions can result in death or serious injury. / LOSS OF SURGE SUPPRESSION • Do not energize the Surge Protective Devices until the electrical system is completely installed, inspected, tested, and all conductors have been connected and functional, including the neutral. • Verify the voltage rating of the Surge Protective Device and electrical system before energizing the electrical system. • Perform high-potential insulation testing, or any other testing, where the Surge Protective Device components will be subjected to voltages higher than their maximum continuous operating voltage (MCOV), with the neutral and the Surge Protective Device disconnected from the power source. Failure to follow these instructions can result in equipment damage. Installation 1. Turn off all power to the load center before working on or inside the equipment. 2. Remove the cover from the load center. 3. Install the SPD as shown in Figure 1. Ensure that the SPD jaws fully engage the bus. 4. Replace the load center cover. 5. Energize the equipment. Verify that the indicator lamp on the SPD illuminates.
