ANDROID AUTOTM TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE DATA SIGNAL STRENGTH 1. NO/WEAK DATA SIGNALS • No/weak data signal may impact AndroidTM Auto performance such as: o Delay in receiving/sending text messages. o Verbal text read back may not function. o Music may not automatically restart after phone call termination. o GoogleTM search results may not be accurate (i.e. Phone book, Music, Address/POI look up). o Google Voice actions session may be delayed or may abruptly end. o Delayed POI/Destination search results feedback: Feedback may be "Not sure how to help with this" after address/POI search but will still provide a route. o Delayed Music search results feedback: Feedback may indicate unable to find music but the song will start playing OR "Getting your selection..." will display but music will start playing. o Delayed/blinking screen transitions. o Android Auto music info may not refresh after data signal is recovered. CONNECTIONS 2. ANDROID AUTO WILL NOT LAUNCH • VEHICLE SETUP o Confirm the Android Auto ‘Connectivity’ settings in the vehicle is set to ON (SETUP > Connectivity). The latest versions of Google NowTM, Google MapsTM and Google Play Music apps will automatically update during the Android Auto phone set up process. If it does not, manually update these apps on Google Play. • • NOTE: Car then phone setup should be completed in one sitting. If phone setup needs to be resumed, recommend to Force Stop the Android Auto app on the Phone then reopen app and accept Disclaimer notifications. Ensure the Location (mode) setting is set to High accuracy. Perform Android Auto application Force Stop on the phone. • Then unlock the phone and run Android Auto app on the phone. Select 'Forget all cars' to reset information and uncheck the box for ‘Only connect to known cars’. • Reconnect the phone then re-launch the Android Auto app on the phone. • • Accept all Disclaimer messages on the phone. Accept Disclaimer message on the vehicle screen and select either ‘SKIP’ or ‘SHOW ME HOW’ to go through the Android Auto tutorial. If condition persists, disconnect the phone. Then un-install the Android Auto app on phone and reinstall it. 3. ANDROID AUTO ICON UNEXPECTEDLY DOES NOT APPEAR • • Check USB connection at the vehicle USB port and on the phone. Ensure that the connection is not loose. NOTE: Recommend using the micro USB cable that came with the phone. Confirm if ‘Car Mode’ is enabled on the phone by swiping down on any screen to view notifications on the curtain. UNABLE TO PAIR PHONE OR MAKE BLUETOOTH® CALL AFTER ANDROID AUTO CONNECTION • • Confirm Bluetooth feature is set to ON in the phone settings. Confirm that 5 phones are not already paired to the vehicle (SETUP > Phone > Bluetooth Connection). If so, select and delete an already paired phone then manually pair the desired phone to the vehicle Bluetooth system and reconnect the phone to the vehicle USB port. 5. CONTACTS UPDATE • Recently added contacts may not be updated in the Android Auto phonebook immediately. The update may not occur for up to 10 minutes and will require the phone to be disconnected then reconnected approximately 10 minutes after adding the new contact. 6. INCOMING CALL AUTOMATICALLY ENTERS PRIVATE MODE AFTER PICK-UP • Select Hands free mode on the phone in order to switch from Private to Hands free mode. Then press the Phone hard key and touch the ‘Hands free' mode icon on the screen to switch to Hands free mode. 7. UNABLE TO CALL/END USING SOFT BUTTONS IN ANDROID AUTO PHONE SCREEN • Disconnect then reconnect the phone. SWITCHING AUDIO SOURCES BETWEEN RADIO/MEDIA AND ANDROID AUTO • 2015 Model Year o Radio/Media: Press the ‘Radio’ or ‘Media’ hard key. o Android Auto: While on any screen, press and hold the Voice Recognition button on the steering wheel then provide a verbal input (i.e. ‘Google Music Play’, or ‘Play <Song>’ / ‘Play <Artist>’). o NOTE: If there is no Google Play Music subscription, the Song/Artist must be stored on the phone. • 2016 Model Year o In addition to the 2015 Model Year options, the steering wheel ‘MODE’ button can be used to toggle through the audio sources. GOOGLE VOICE ACTIONS DOES NOT FUNCTION WITH 3RD PARTY APPS • Google Voice actions commands and hard buttons functions with Google Play Music. • Google Voice actions commands and some hard buttons do not function with 3rd party apps (i.e. SEEK UP/DOWN hard buttons do not advance to the next song when listening to iHeartRadio). 10. MUSIC MAY INTERMMITTENTLY NOT PLAY WHEN LISTENING TO 3RD PARTY APPS (i.e. Spotify, iHeartRadio) • Selecting another station then switching back to the desired station/song will resume the music. 11. BLACK SCREEN/MUTED SOUND WHEN USING 3rd PARTY MUSIC APPLICATIONS (i.e. iHeartRadio, Spotify, Stitcher, etc) • Close/stop running all applications. Settings > Application > Application manager > All > 3rd Party Music App (i.e. iHeartRadio, Spotify, Stitcher, etc) > Touch Force Stop • Ensure latest version of the 3rd party app is installed on the phone. • Disconnect then reconnect the phone. • Power the phone OFF then back ON. GOOGLE VOICE ACTIONS (TALK TO GOOGLE) 12. VEHICLE VOICE RECOGNITION DOES NOT WORK WITH ANDROID AUTO • This is normal. The on-board voice recognition is disabled when Android Auto is active. With Android Auto active, Google voice actions will take over as the voice recognition system. Finding a location, making phone calls, sending/reading texts will be through Google voice actions. 13. GOOGLE VOICE ACTIONS DOES NOT RESPOND OR MAY NOT RECOGNIZE THE VERBAL INPUT AS A COMMAND • Confirm that there is a good date signal on the phone. • Touch the Microphone icon on the upper right corner of the screen or press and hold the steering wheel Voice Recognition button to reinitiate another Google Voice actions session. • Disconnect then reconnect the phone. 14. NO AUDIO SOUND AFTER A GOOGLE VOICE ACTIONS • Confirm the phone and OEM audio volume level is not muted or set too low. • Disconnect then reconnect the phone. 15. BLACK/WHITE SCREEN DISPLAYED AFTER A GOOGLE VOICE ACTIONS SESSION • Initiate another Google Voice action and provide verbal input again. • Disconnect then reconnect the phone. UNABLE TO READ TEXT MESSAGES PREVIOUSLY VIEWED PRIOR TO ANDROID AUTO CONNECTION • This is a Google spec and is normal. 17. MESSAGE READ BACK ALTERATIONS • Android Auto text message read back may be altered by the phone carrier when the text message is too long. o Verizon: Text messages are not altered. Messages read back will match actual text message sent. o AT&T: Text messages are mildly altered. Read back truncation occurs when texts are too long. Carrier varies when/where the text is chopped using Android Auto read back. o Sprint: Text messages are read back heavily altered. Messages longer than 66 characters including spaces are truncated into 2 texts. Word chop occurs immediately after character limit is encroached. o T-Mobile: Text message read back is mildly altered. Read back truncation occurs when texts are too long. Carrier varies when/where the text is chopped using Android Auto read back. MUSIC 18. UNABLE TO ADJUST AUDIO VOLUME • Disconnect then reconnect phone. • If condition persists, use a pen to press the ‘RESET’ button located next to the ‘TUNE’ knob. 19. GOOGLE PLAY SERVICE ERROR MESSAGE "Unfortunately, Google Play services has stopped." • Close/stop running the application then go back into Google Play Music to restart the app. Settings > Application > Application manager > All > Google Play Music > Touch Force Stop 20. NO GOOGLE PLAY MUSIC AUDIO • Confirm the phone and OEM audio volume level is not muted or set too low. • Switch to another audio mode. Then switch back to Google Play Music. • Disconnect then reconnect the phone. • Power the phone OFF then back ON. NAVIGATION 21. ANDROID AUTO NAVIGATION GUIDANCE SOUND • Sound (Music and Guidance) mixing may occur. If this occurs, disconnect then reconnect the phone. • Voice guidance may fluctuate. If this occurs, check and confirm that the audio Speed Dependent Volume setting is turned OFF (Settings > Sound > Speed Dependent Volume). 23. NO/INTERMITTENT VEOICE GUIDANCE WHEN USING GOOGLE MAPS • Press any audio button (i.e. Radio or Media) to regain audio sound. • Disconnect then reconnect the phone. MISC 24. SLOW VOICE FEEDBACK • Recommend checking with phone's manufacturer for specific volume settings. If phone is equipped with the ‘Text-To-Speech’ option, adjust the speech rate to the center.
