1 Introduction
1.1 Manual for Users and Installers of the RB50Eplus tube motor
The manual for users and installers of the Ridder RB50Eplus tube motor is intended to give the
mechanical and electrical installers as well as the users information about how to use the product in the
correct way. The manual contains information in respect of the RB50Eplus tube motor, its accessories
and the mechanical and electrical installation, maintenance and the appropriate safety aspects.
All work described in this manual must be carried out by qualified and competent mechanical and
electrical installers.
1.2 How is the users’ and installers’ manual set out?
The users’ and installers’ manual for the RB50Eplus tube motor is set out according the the Dutch norm
NEN 5509. This norm has been used to establish the contents, formation and structure.
The manual is divided into various chapters, which deal with the most important aspects of each
subject. Subjects covered include the mechanical and electrical installation, consumer issues and
maintenance. Sometimes a chapter will concentrate on the user and at other times on the installer and
sometimes even on both. It is important to absorb and understand the contents of the manual in order
to operate the RB50Eplus tube motor responsibly and correctly.
1.3 Warnings contained in the users’ and installers’ manual
This manual contains tips, observations and warnings for most operational eventualities. They are
divided into a number of gradations. The following shows an overview and description of the meaning of
the tip, observation or warning.

1 Introduction

Thank you for your purchase of, or interest in the Ridder RB50Eplus tube motor with the electronic limit
switch system.
The RB50Eplus tube motor is a high quality product with a number of specific characteristic features:

RB50Eplus tube motors, please follow the instructions set out in this users’ and installers’ manual
carefully to avoid danger or damages.
Areas of application
The Ridder RB50Eplus tube motors are designed to be used with roller screen systems in greenhouses
and roller screen systems in other buildings. Any other usage is only permitted with the approval of
Ridder Drive Systems.
1.5 Guarantee
Ridder Drive Systems guarantees the RB50Eplus tube motor for 1 year in accordance with the Smecoma
conditions. The guarantee will be disclaimed when, without our prior permission, any alterations or
unauthorised installations are carried out by the client(s) him(them)self(ves)or by a third party, that are in
conflict with our prescribed assembly guidelines.
Any persons carrying out any work to or installing of the Ridder RB50Eplus tube motors must ensure
that all the legal and official conditions are met and most importantly that the CE- and EMC-guidelines
are followed.
This product has been designed as a result of technical developments and improvements. For further

2 Technical details, execution and function
2.1 Technical details RB50Eplus Tube motor
The Ridder RB50Eplus tube motor is a maintenance-free drive system for driving the side wall, roof and
twin roll screen system in greenhouses and the roller screen systems in agricultural buildings. The tube
motor is incorporated in a 50mm aluminium tube (wall thickness 1.5mm) and is therefore suitable for use
with 50mm winding tubes. This means that the tube motor becomes part of the rolling tube enabling the
screen material to extend the full width of the system.

The almost-silent RB50Eplus tube motor is supplied with a 1-phase, 2 core asynchronous electric motor,
an integrated brake and a permanantly lubricated gear system. The tube motor has a self-resetting
thermal protection system. This prevents the burn-out of the drive if the electric motor should overheat.
The RB50Eplus tube motor is almost entirely water resistant. The high protection classification, IP55,
means that the function of the tube motor will not be affected by a damp atmosphere.
The RB50Eplus tube motor has an intelligent and precision pulse counting electronic limiting switch
system as standard. This pulse counting system will switch the tube motor off in the end position, and
can, for safety reasons, switch off the tube motor in case of overload. The new limit switch system
means that several tube motors can be connected parallel without using an isolation relay because of
the switch components in the new electronic limit switch system.
The installation of the RB50Eplus tube motor is simple. Used together with the Ridder guiding unit and
guiding profiles the tube motor can be fitted to both the right and the left of the roller screen system.

In order to operate the roller screen system in which the RB50Eplus tube motor is installed, certain other
components will be needed to complete the drive system. The pictures shown below provide an
overview of the Ridder components that apply to the RB50Eplus tube motor. The table indicates which

3 Conditions of use
3.1 Important safety instructions for the user
Not observing the following instructions
could lead to serious injury
CAUTION
Safety instructions
● Only qualified professionals may carry out work on the electric installations, including maintenance
work;
● Children should not play with the controls or be in the vicinity of the roller screen system;
● Check the roller screen regularly for wear and tear;
● Any damaged systems must be shut down immediately until they have been repaired;
● Do not operate the roller screen system when anyone is in the immediate danger zone, (i.e. close
enough to touch the roller screen);
● Be aware of the danger zone when working with or near the roller screen;
● Shut down the roller screen system and isolate from the power supply when maintenance and
cleaning work has to be carried out to the system itself, or in the immediate area;
● Make sure that there is sufficient space between moving parts and adjacent objects;
● Keep away from or secure any areas where there are brackets or there is a danger of becoming
jammed, (e.g. tube motor conductor, roller screen).

3.2 Area of use RB50Eplus tube motor
Area of use
The Ridder RB50Eplus tube motors are designed for use in side wall, roof and twin roll screen systems in
greenhouses and roller screen systems in stables. When used in a roof roller screen system the system
must have an angle of inclination of a minimum of 20° from the horizontal.
Any other uses of the Ridder RB50Eplus tube motors are only permitted with the express approval of
Ridder Drive Systems.
3.3 Roller screen systems and safety
The user or installer or any other
persons could face physical injury if they
were to be struck by a revolving roller screen system.
DANGER
Automated controls
The Ridder RB50Eplus tube motors will be fitted primarily into automated roller screen systems. Anyone
working in the direct vicinity of the roller screen system must take the necessary precautions. Should
any person or their clothing come into physical contact when the blind is winding, it could have serious
consequences.
Torque guard
The RB50Eplus tube motor has a torque guard. This is intended to minimise the risk of damage to the
system or injury to any persons as far as possible. Due to the distribution of forces in the roller screen
system in which the tube motor is fitted, Ridder cannot guarantee that there will be no danger of
damage to the system or injury to any persons in the case of an emergency.
Precautions
In view of the dangerous situations that could occur in respect of the roller screen system it is vital that
the correct safety precautions are observed (screens, the revolving tube out of hand’s reach etc). If it is
not possible to observe these regulations then please be warned that this could lead to dangerous
circumstances. The responsibility for making sure that these regulations and warnings are observed lies
entirely with the installer of the roller screen system. The installer must therefore give the installed
system a CE certification in respect of the safety aspects.

3.4 Duty cycle RB50Eplus tube motor
Limited duty cycle RB50Eplus tube motor
The RB50Eplus tube motor has a limited duty cycle because it is a powerful motor contained in a
compact housing which generates a large amount of heat during its operations. When using this tube
motor, please observe the maximum permitted running time before the motor has to be replaced in its
rest position and allowed to cool down . The maximum running time is indicated by kb (Kurzbetrieb) in
minutes. When determining the maximum running time, it is assumed that the tube motor is operating in
a surrounding temperature of 20°C. In respect of the E plus tube motor the kb-value is 10 minutes. In
practice, the cooling down period is calculated as being approx. 15x running time (duty cycle 6%).
Influencing factors when using an RB50Eplus tube motor in a roller screen
The tube motor in a roller screen (in a greenhouse) often has to operate in the following conditions,
which affect the running and rest times:
● The environmental temperature will often be above 20°C which will make the kb value smaller. The
difference will be greater or smaller depending on the environmental temperature;
● Because the screening material has an insulating affect on the winding tube, it will take a relatively
long time for the tube motor to cool down to the same temperature as the environment;
● More heat will be generated if the tube motor is continually switched on and off for short periods. In
this case the maximum time that it can remain switched on will be shorter and the cooling down time
longer.
Thermal protection in the RB50Eplus tube motor
The electric motor of the RB50Eplus tube motor is supplied with a thermal protection. This will operate
when the motor exceeds a certain temperature. If the thermal protection comes into operation, it can be
for the following reasons:
● Running time too long;
● Cooling-down time too short (tube motor at rest position);
● Switched on too often for consecutive short periods;
● Over-load.
Not taking into account the maximum time that the unit can
remain switched on can cause faults in the system and can
eventually damage the tube motor.
WARNING
Practical guidelines for the running and rest times
In practice the roller screen will operate at varying intervals. The ways in which it operates will effect the
functioning and the length of the working life of the tube motor. In practice it works in the following way:
● With most systems the maximum running time of a tube motor in one direction is no longer than
approx. 4 minutes (wall blind height: 2.5m). It is therefore possible to adjust the blind system in such
a way that it can be opened and closed without the thermal protector shutting down the tube motor.
In practice the RB50Eplus can be switched on for about 10 minutes, and it can be approx. 15
minutes before the thermic protector shuts down the tube motor;
● If the roller screen system is operated once or twice a day, the tube motor has sufficient time to cool
down, which means that the length of its working life will not be curtailed;
● If a roller screen is operated several times a day this can result in the tube motor not being allowed to
cool down sufficiently before it is operated again. This could mean that the tube motor is operating at
a too high a temperature and it will be switched off by the thermal protection. If the tube motor is
continually operating at high temperatures it will have a detrimental affect on the length of its working
life.

4 Mechanical installation
4.1 Assembly RB50Eplus tube motor and guiding unit
Ridder components
This chapter contains the instructions for the mechanical assembly of the RB50Eplus tube motor with
the guiding unit and the guiding profile. It is assumed certain Ridder components will be used when
following these instructions.
Roller screen system
These assembly instructions concern a side screen, where the roller screen is mounted on the front of a
greenhouse structure between the stanchions. Thus the guiding unit for the tube motor will be
positioned to the right of the roller screen (looking out from the greenhouse), where the left-handed
version of the guiding unit will be used.
Greenhouse sections
This has the advantage that if the greenhouse where the roller screen is to be assembled is built in
sections, the tube motor and conductor can be positioned at the highest point. This means that water
formed by, for instance, condensation, will run away from the tube motor over the screen when it is
rolled up.
Assembly cable carrier
It is very important to decide beforehand where to fit the cable carrier for the RB50Eplus tube motor.
There are two ways to do this using the different Ridder components that are available: hooking onto, or
parallel to, the roller screen. For more information see the paragraph in this chapter which covers the
assembly of the cable leads.

Assembly instructions: order
The manual shows the order in which the various assembly operations should be carried out. It is also
possible to use a different assembly sequence if this would be more advantageous. However the
guidelines in the manual should still be followed.
CAUTION
The person(s) carrying out the following assembly instructions
must be fully qualified to install roller screen systems in
greenhouses.
TIP
During any mechanical installation it is advisable to
use an adjustable switch to provide the tube motor
with power when required.

Guiding units supplied in left- or right-handed versions
The guiding units which conduct the RB50Eplus tube motor are supplied in left- or right-handed
versions. If when assembling the tube motor, it is discovered that the wrong guiding unit version is being
used, it can easily be converted by following the steps listed below (see diagrams A1.1 and A1.2):

Undo the self-locking nuts (1) so that the clamp (2) comes loose;
Remove the guide unit clamp (2) from the bolts (3);
Rotate the guide unit clamp and resecure it to the bolts (3);
Fit the self-locking nuts (1).

4 Mechanical installation
Steps for assembling the guiding profile and guiding unit:
1. Measure the length of the guiding profile (1) .
The guiding profile (1) that conducts the RB50EPlusplus> tube motor is supplied in standard lengths.
Before starting work on the assembly, measure the length of the guiding profile and if necessary cut
to the correct length using a saw. This length measurement will usually be the same, or be a few
millimeters shorter than the height of the girder (L1) as shown in diagrams A2.1 and A2.2.
2. Drill the holes.
Holes must be drilled in the guiding profile (1) before assembly (ø6,5 .. 7 mm). Holes must also be
drilled in the greenhouse structure (girders (a,d), greenhouse base (c)) in order to fit the guiding
profile (1) and/or the mounting bracket (2). To secure the assembly base (2) onto the greenhouse
base (concrete, figure A2.4) use 2 anchor bolts M8 (6). To secure the assembly base (2) on to a girder
(diagram A2.5) use 2 bolts M8 (7) with self-locking nuts (8). It is important that the holes are drilled in
the correct place, as this will affect the position of the cable carrier when it is assembled at a later
time. Use the diagrams A2.2 and A2.3 to determine the correct positions. The guiding profile must be
secured to the girder (a) so that it rests against the girder (diagram A2.3).
3. Place the guiding unit (3) onto the guiding profile (1)
Before the guiding profile (1) can be secured to the greenhouse structure , the guiding unit (3) must
be assembled onto the guiding profile. Make sure that the securing bolt for the tube motor is on the
side of the screen and that the girder (U-profile) can rest in the recess of the mounting bracket when
the guiding unit is in the topmost position (diagram A2.7)
4. Secure the guiding profile (1) with guiding unit (3) onto the greenhouse structure.
Use bolts M6 x 16 (4) with self-locking nuts (5) to secure the guiding profile (1) with the guiding unit
(3) to the girder (a) and to the mounting bracket (3)). Anchor bolts M8 should be used to secure the
fixing bracket (2) to the greenhouse structure (c, d).

Ridder RB50Eplus tube motor
The Ridder RB50Eplus tube motor is incorporated as standard into an aluminium tube (ø50x1.5) onto
which a coupling piece for a winding tube (ø50 mm) can be fitted. The connection can be secured using
pop-rivets. Using at least 4 with a minimum diameter of 5 mm is recommended.
Steps for fitting the winding tube to the tube motor:
1. Slide the coupling piece (2) for the winding tube (3) into the aluminium tube (1) of the tube motor.
The maximum sliding length here is 110mm (see diagram A3.1);
2. Drill one of the holes for the pop-rivets connection into the aluminium tube of the tube motor and
coupling piece. The drilling diameter depends on the size of the pop-rivets used, minimum ø5.2
mm. Diagrams A3.1 and A3.2 show the position where the holes should be drilled;
3. Tighten the pop-rivets (4) using pop-rivet pliers (B) in order to connect the tube motor (1) to the
winding tube coupling piece (2);
4. Drill the remaining three holes for the rest of the pop-rivet connections;
5. Secure the remaining pop-rivets (4).

Mounting bracket cable carrier: hooking onto or parallel to the roller screen
This manual describes two methods for fitting the cable carrier for the RB50Eplus to the tube motor. The
standard method is to hook it on to the roller screen. Using this method the cable carrier is attached
directly to the guiding unit of the tube motor. The alternative method is to fit the cable carrier parallel to
the roller screen. The latter requires an extra mounting clamp that must be fitted when the tube motor is
being fitted to the guiding unit. Make sure that the mounting bracket has been fitted to avoid extra work
at a later time (feeding the power cable through the mounting bracket and the retaining ring).
Securing the tube motor to the guiding unit (cable carrier hooking onto roller screen, A4.1)
1. Feed the power cable of the tube motor (1) through the mounting bracket of the guiding unit (2);
2. Slide the tube motor head completely (1) into the gap in the mounting bracket of the guiding unit (2);
3. Feed the power cable of the tube motor (1) through the retaining ring of the tube motor (4);
4. Slide the retaining ring (4) as far as the mounting bracket (2) round the tube motor head (1);
5. Rotate the retaining ring (4) in to the position shown in diagram A4.3 and seal the retaining ring (4) to
the tube motor head (1) by tightening the retaining screw (5) ( 4 mm).

Securing the tube motor to the guiding unit (cable carrier parallel to the roller screen, A4.2)
1. Feed the power cable for the tube motor (1) through the mounting bracket of the guiding unit (2);
2. Slide the tube motor head (1) entirely into the gap in the mounting bracket of the guiding unit (2);
3. Feed the power cable of the tube motor (1) through the gap in the cable carrier bracket (3);
4. Slide the cable carrier bracket (3) as far as the mounting bracket of the guiding unit (2) over the tube
motor head (1);
5. Feed the tube motor (1) power cable though the retaining ring of the tube motor (4);
6. Slide the retaining ring (4) as far as the mounting bracket (3) round the tube motor head (1);
7. Rotate the retaining ring (4) into the position shown in diagram A4.3 and seal the retaining ring (4)
onto the tube motor head (1) by tightening the retaining screw (5) ( 4 mm).

Cable carrier hooking onto roller screen (standard)
The cable carrier used with the RB50Eplus tube motor feeds the power cable when the tube motor is
moving up and down. Using the cable carrier prevents damage to the power cable if it should come into
contact with the roller screen system. When fixing the cable carrier that hooks onto the roller screen, the
cable carrier (7) is mounted directly onto the guiding unit (2) of the tube motor (1) (see diagrams A5.1 to
A5.4).
Fitting the cable carrier
1. Fit the (male) cable carrier (3) using the pop-rivets supplied (4) to the guiding unit (2) (diagram A5.1);
2. Determine the position of the cable carrier mounting bracket (7) for the cable carrier clip (6) and fix
this to the greenhouse structure (a) (dimensions as per diagram A5.3);
3. Fit the (female) cable carrier clip (6) using the pop-rivets supplied (4) to the cable carrier mounting
bracket (7) (diagram A5.2);
4. Adjust the length of the cable carrier (7) to required length (minimum 0.5 x L1 + 200 mm);
5. Feed the power cable through the cable carrier (7). Start the feed-through at the side of the cable
carrier where the male cable carrier clip (3) has to be fitted (3) to the guiding unit (2);
6. Fit the cable carrier (7) to both cable carrier clips.

tube motor encased in a round tube
The RB50Eplus tube motor is encased in a smooth round aluminium tube (50 x 1.5 mm). This tube has a
groove for the screen cloth. Double-sided adhesive tape can be used to fix the roller screen to the tube
of the RB50Eplus tube motor.
When using the adhesive tape, make sure that there is a minimum distance of 40mm. between the
screen cloth and the tube motor head (see diagram A7.2). This will prevent any screen cloth that has
been cut incorrectly from becoming caught in the tube motor conductor when it is being rolled up.
Stick to tube of the RB50Eplus tube motor
1. Pull the cord of the screen cloth through the groove in the winding tube;
2. Cut the cord at the tube motor;
3. Secure the last section of the screen cloth onto the tube of the tube motor using double-sided
adhesive tape. Make sure that there is a minimum distance of 40mm between the screen cloth and
the tube motor head;
4. Pull the cloth tight around the winding tube;
5. Secure the cloth to the greenhouse structure making sure that there are no creases.

5 Electrical installation
5.1 Safety instructions for the electrotechnical installer
CAUTION
Not following the safety instructions
could lead to serious physical injury.
Follow the safety instructions in EN 60 335-2-97:2000
CAUTION
When carrying out assembly and maintenance work the power
supply, if present, should be connected voltage free.
WARNING
Electrical connections must only be installed by an
electrotechnical installer or an electrician.
Safety instructions
● Only qualified personnel should carry out any work on the electrical installation;
● Certain assembly parts of the electrical or electrotechnical installations will be connected to
dangerous electrical voltages. Non-qualified intervention or not following the warning instructions
could result in physical injury and/or damage to materials;
● All standards and regulations in force for electrical installations must be adhered to;
● Should non-Ridder accessories be used, or any alterations should be made to any Ridder equipment,
Ridder is not responsible for any consequent injury, material damage or consequential damage;
● Disconnect all voltage conductors and control panels that are not absolutely necessary for the
operation of the installation;
● Control panels that are visible from the driven product should be placed at a height of above 1.5m;
● Make sure that there is a sufficient distance between the moving parts and any object in the
immediate vicinity;
● The torque and the switch cycle of the driven roller screen must fall within the working parameters of
the tube motor (see type diagram of the tube motor);
● Any moving parts of the system up to a height of 2.5 m from the ground must be screened off;
● Avoid or screen off any areas where someone/thing could be caught/ trapped;
● Keep to the safety distances in accordance with DIN EN 294.

CE-approbation mark
Ridder RB50Eplus tube motors have the CE-approbation mark. These tube motors comply with the
applicable EU-guidelines and the local regulations. Should the motor be operated with faulty equipment
the electrotechnical installer must repair the fault in the said equipment.
For the connection of the Ridder RB50Eplus tube motor
the Ridder RMC50 motor control unit can also be used.

5.2 Instructions for the electrotechnical installer
Instructions regarding electrical connections and switching units
● To operate in the up and down directions use the phase L1. General electrical equipment (lamps,
relays, etc.) must never be connected directly to the connection cables of the motor. In this instance
the tube motor and the general equipment must be connected through a relay;
● When installing the tube motor an isolating capacity from the mains must be applied for all poles with
a contact opening of at least 3 mm per pole (EN 60335);
● Important: Only use mechanical or electrical interlocking switching units with a specific off position.
This also applies if motors with an electronic limit switch system and motors with a mechanical limit
switch system are being used in an installation;
● The delay period for reversing the turning direction must be approx. 500 ms (0.5 second);
● Switch and control must not be used at the same time as the up and down command;
● For driving the tube motors with electronic limit switch systems, use only switching units (switch
clocks) where the N-potential is not delivered via the motor. The switch unit outputs must remain
potential free when in the rest position;
● Protect the electric connections against damp.
Parallel connections
Ridder RB50Eplus tube motors with electronic limiting switch systems can be parallel connected. The
maximum switch contact load for the switch installations (relay controls, switches etc.) must be taken
into account.

6 Adjusting the limit switch system
6.1 Limit switch system RB50Eplus tube motor: Adjusting
The RB50Eplus tube motor is fitted as standard with an intelligent and precise pulse counter electronic
limit switch system. The pulse counter is used to switch off the tube motor when it reaches the end
position and also to switch off the tube motor in the case of overload, as a safety precution.
When setting-up the end position of the RB50Eplus tube motor, please use the adjusting switch.
6.2 Adjusting switch RB50Eplus tube motor

The adjusting switch for the RB50Eplus tube motor is used to adjust the limit switch system and drive
the tube motor during installation or maintenance work. Remove the adjusting switch during operations
and connect the tube motor to the control box.

Connecting the adjusting switch to the tube motor
Join the connecting wires from the tube motor "colour to colour" to the clamping strip on the adjusting
switch.
WARNING
Make sure that there are no obstacles in the way of the system
before using the limiting switch system for the RB50Eplus is
adjusted.

The adjusting switch is not suitable for continuous useage,
only for setting-up and adjustment purposes!
TIP
Using the up and down function switch, check the
operating direction of the RB50Eplus tube motor
before adjusting the limiting switch system.

6.3 Adjusting the end positions using the adjusting switch
WARNING
When the first end position has been adjusted (step 3), the
running direction (step 4) thus selected will determine if this is the
top or bottom end position.
Make sure that this choice is the correct one before using the up
and down function switch.
1. Connect the tube motor to the adjusting switch.
2. Let the tube motor run in the selected up or down
position, pressing the corresponding up or down
function switch on the adjusting switch.
3. When the end position is reached, press the
programming key on the adjusting switch for at
least 3 seconds. The end position will then have
been adjusted.
The tube motor will confirm that end position has
been adjusted by giving one "click".
4. Let the tube motor run as far as selected end
position by pressing the corresponding up-down
function switch on the adjusting switch.

5. When the end position has been reached, press the
programme key on the adjusting switch for a
mimimum of 3 seconds.
The end position will now have been adjusted. The
tube motor will confirm the new end position by
giving one "click".
When all the steps mentioned above have been completed, the limit switch system and thus the running
sequence of the RB50Eplus tube motor will have been adjusted. Now detach the tube motor cables from
the adjusting switch and connect the tube motor cables to the switch control box.

1. Connect the tube motor to the adjusting switch.
2. Let the tube motor run to the end positions that
have to be cancelled by pressing in the
corresponding up-down function switch.
3. When the end position has been reached, press the
programme key on the adjusting switch and hold it
in. Wait for a mimimum of 1 second before starting
the next step.
4. Now using the programme key press the "down"
function switch and hold it in.
5. Keep pressing the "down" function switch and
release the programme key.

6. Wait for 1 second, then using the :"down" function
switch, press the programme key.
The end position has now been cancelled. The tube
motor will confirm the cancelled end position by
giving a "double click".
When all the above mentioned steps have been completed, one of the end positions will have been
cancelled. Now follow all the steps to adjust the end position correctly. Next detach the tube motor
cables from the adjusting switch and connect the tube motor cables to the switch control box.

4. Next using the programme key press the "down"
function switch and hold it in.

release the programme key.

The end positions will have been cancelled. The
tube motor will confirm that the end positions have

Now follow all the steps to adjust the cancelled end positions correctly. Next, detach the tube motor
cables from the adjusting switch and connect the cables to the switch control box.

7 Malfunction solutions and repair parts
7.1 Malfunction problem solutions - Electric
Problem
The tube motor will not run.
Diagnosis
The tube motor will not run using the adjustment switch or via the control box.
Cause 1
The mains voltage is not connected.
Solution 1
Connect the mains voltage.
Cause 2
There is a problem with one of the connection.
Solution 2
The installer should check the connections and the cables (for a break in the
connection or in the wiring) and reset.
Cause 3
The tube motor has been stopped by the thermal protection.
Solution 3
Allow the tube motor cool off for a while, then try to re-start.
Cause 4
The tube motor does not react because the mains voltage is not correct.
Solution 4
Check the type plate on the motor and compare it to the mains connection. If these do
not match, contact your supplier.
Cause 5
The above solutions do not solve the problem. Cause unknown.
Solution 5
Contact your installer or supplier.
Problem
Tube motor ignores the end position or does not reach the adjusted end
position.
Diagnosis
End positions have been cancelled (tube motor gives a double click when switched on)
or re-set (tube motor gives one click when switched on).
Cause 1
Electric connection has been shorted out because of moisture.
Solution 1
Repair the electric installation and re-set the tube motor end positions.
Cause 2
L1- and N- connections have been exchanged.
Solution 2
Exchange L1 and N (N=bl, L1=black/br) and re-set the tube motor end positions.
7.2 Malfunction-/problem solution – Adjust limiting system

Problem
When carrrying out the adjustment the second end position cannot be
entered using the programme key.
Diagnosis
Tube motor does not click to confirm that the second end position has been adjusted.
Cause 1
Repeated adjustment of the end positions has de-regulated the electronics of the
RB50Eplus tube motor.
Solution 1
When carrying out step 4 of the synchronising procedure release the programme key,
and then press it again. This will usually adjust the end position correctly.
Cause 2
Repeated adjustment of the end positions has de-regulated the electronics of the
RB50Eplus tube motor, and solution 1 has had no effect.
Solution 2
Cancel the adjusted end positions using the adjusting switch, then re-set the tube
motor end positions.
Cause 3
Repeated adjustment of the end positions can de-regulate the electronics of the
RB50Eplus tube motor. Solutions 1 and 2 have had no effect.
Solution 3
There could be a fault in the electrics. Contact your installer or supplier.

8 Maintenance and cleaning
8.1 Maintenance and cleaning RB50Eplus tube motor and accessories
Before starting any assembly or maintenance work
make sure that the power supply is voltage free.
CAUTION
Minimum maintenance
The Ridder RB50Eplus tube motor and its accessories require very little maintenance. It is however
important that the user makes a regular check to make sure that the tube motor and its components are
functioning correctly. Check the following points when carrying out a maintenance inspection. If you
should discover a problem during the maintenance check and you cannot solve it yourself, contact your
installer or supplier.
Checks to be carried out:
● Check the set end positions of the limit switch systems of the RB50Eplus tube motor.
Is the motor becoming jammed when rolling the screen up, because of creases in the roller screen?
(rolls up more quickly);
● Check that the guiding unit with the guiding profile are working correctly.
If the guiding profile is dirty, it can mean that the running will become erratic (thus using more power);
● Check that the tube motor head fixing ring is still sealed tight;
● Check that the power cable for the RB50Eplus tube motor is not damaged.
8.2 Maintenance and cleaning roller screen system
CAUTION
Before starting any assembly or maintenance work
make sure that the power is disconnected and isolated from the
main supply.
Roller screen system
As well as checking the Ridder RB50Eplus tube motor, the user must also check the roller screen on a
regular basis. If the roller screen is not working properly, it can eventually lead to faults in the tube motor
or the tube motor conductivity. If you should discover a problem during the check and you cannot solve
it yourself, contact your installer or supplier.
Points to be checked
● Check the roller screen for dirt or any foreign objects that could have a detrimental effect on the
working of the screen;
● Check the roller screen for any tears and repair them where possible;
● Check that the roller screen is still attached properly to the winding tube and to the greenhouse;
● Check that there are no excessive creases forming when the roller screen is rolling up.

9.1 Guiding unit RB50Eplus tube motor
Zinc plated guiding unit for guiding the RB50Eplus tube motor in the guiding profile. Capable of
absorbing the torque and axial forces. The square axle pin on the RB50Eplus tube motor head locates in
the square hole on the guiding unit and is secured with the fixing ring supplied. The guiding unit is
available in left-and right-handed versions and includes a mounting bracket for a cable carrier.

9.4 Cable carrier bracket RB50Eplus tube motor
Zinc-plated bracket for mounting the cable carrier to the RB50Eplus tube motor. This bracket should be
used when the cable carrier is fitted parallel to the roller screen. The dimensions of the cable carrier
bracket have been selected so that that it can run along the girders with the tube motor. Thus they are
mounted on the tube motor head between the tube motor and the guiding unit.

The cable carrier guides and protects the power cable of the tube motor. The cable carrier is hinged in
one direction and rigid in other directions . The power cable can be fed in easily. Attach the cable
carrierr to the tube motor using the mounting kit.

9.8 RB50Eplus Adjusting switch
Adjusting switch for the RB50Eplus tube motors. This will be required during operations of the
RB50Eplus tube motor. The adjusting switch is used to set, cancel or re-set the end positions of the
tube motor. The set-up switch has a plastic connector with pressure clamps to connect the RB50Eplus
tube motor, a switch unit with push buttons and a rim-earthed plug.

9.9 RMC50 Tube motor control unit
The RMC50 motor control units are control boxes for connecting 1-phase RB tube motors. In the
RMC50 motor contol unit the all electrical components required for the reliable operating and safe
connection of an RB tube motor are integrated. The RMC50 motor control unit can be used in
combination with the RB40-11, RB50-3.5/4.2, RB120-11 and RB50Eplus tube motors.
The RMC50 motor control unit, which is encased in a plastic housing, has a glass fuse (4A) which
prevents electric overload. The RMC50 motor control unit also has a programmable time delay safety
function (1 to 10 mins). The time delay safety function has two functions: preventing damage to the tube
motor (when it is not switched off electrically when it has reached an end position) and a fault signal will
indicate if the programmed running time has been exceeded. If the programmed running time is
exceeded and the motor is not switched off electrically, the power to the motor will be interrupted by the
RMC50 motor control unit. The fault signal is an optical signal (flashing light) on a built-in LED.
The RMC50 motor control unit can be operated manually and by remote control. The RMC50 has two
impulse push buttons, one for manual control (up - stop - down - stop) and one for a choice of remote
or manual operation. The remore control can be transmitted using a 24V input signal (AC or DC).
The RMC50 motor control unit has easily accessible clamping strips for connecting the cables. The 1phase power voltage, the RB tube motor and a 24V transmission signal for external control are
connected to the clamping strips. The RMC50 motor control unit features 2 cable glands to feed wiring
and leads to the outside of the cabinet.
