In-Stat and iSuppli forecast the market for PND (Personal Navigation Device) to reach 56 million units worldwide by 2011 from 14 million in 2006. Despite the rapid growth, the market for navigation remains hugely under-penetrated, with devices ownership in 2006 at less than 5 percent of the Total Available Market (TAM) in United States, and approximately 14 percent of the TAM in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. This shows that the room for navigation devices growth is still tremendous. PND segment, the Star product for navigation market, continues to develop aggressive price cut from various vendors simply to maintain their share of sales in this competitive market. Mapping and navigation applications on mobile handsets begin in 2007. In-Stat believes that, with strong and targeted promotion, wireless service providers will be able to capture more price-sensitive potential buyers. That will enhance further growth in PND market. Since 2006, Arrow Vertical Application Group has engaged a number of IDHs in navigation segment. In Q2, we have engaged a Singapore-based IDH partner to develop a low cost PND (FM70) solution running on Freescale iMX21S platform. The FM70 is a 3.5” entry level PND platform that is designed to provide industry leading cost competitiveness without compromising in GPS performance. The platform RIIHUVXQOLPLWHGÀH[LELOLW\WR2(02'0PDQXIDFWXUHUZKR may use the platform as the starting base of a fully custom PND, or take the electronics design as-is and design plastic skin around it to create a new and unique product. Up to date, Arrow Vertical Application has engaged a few customers in greater China, who will adopt the low cost FM70 PND platform. Based on market forecast, the market potential for PND will reach over 20M units by end 2008. In the meantime, we are engaging to develop the full product range from 2.5” and 4.3” PND solution to address the various customer needs. India is another key market growth for Navigation products, and the FM70 platform and future PND platform will be ideal for this market. Microprocessor Supervisors with Switchover Preserve SRAM data in the absence of system power by automatically switching to battery backup when system power fails. A Chip-Enable Gate automatically write-protects the SRAM when Vcc begins to fall. (Other options include Watchdog, POR-LVD, PFI/PFO, Push-button Reset, and Battery Monitor.) Multiple Voltage Supervisors This is a family of low voltage/low supply current processor Supervisors, designed to monitor two upto five system power supply voltages. All device options have a push-buttontype manual reset Input (/MR), the STM6777/78/79/80 also offers an option which enables the user to delay the start of Manual reset process from 6us(MRS pin left open) or more with external capacitor. The delay is implemented by connecting the appropriately sized capacitor between Product Name the MRC pin and Vss. This has been proved to the matching of using the manual reset button with multi usage, like in the portable consumer, buttons DUHDOZD\VPXOWLFRQ¿JXUHGRUWRDYRLG non-intended touch to the buttons. Reset ICs Provide basic voltage monitoring and reset timing for Power-on Reset and Low-Voltage Detect (POR-LVD) function. Some devices feature an additional input which can be used for Push-button Reset. Voltage Detectors Provide precision monitoring of battery, power supply, and regulated system voltages when no reset timing is necessary. Apart a full range of standard microprocessor, highly integrated VXSHUYLVRUVDLPLQJVSHFL¿FDSSOLFDWLRQ has been developed Security supervisors Comply with FIPs-140 level3/4 standards, ST has offered a series(STM1403/1404) supervisors with physical temper detection, PFI/ PFO, temperature detect, battery Description monitor, SRAM strobe control, under voltage and over voltage detection, manual reset and alarms to CPU just into on single 16pin device. The STM1403/1404 family can be used in the High Security Module (HSM) in various terminals such as: POS terminals, PCs with cash drawers, standalone credit authorization / debit card terminals, electronic cash registers, vending machines, security keyboard, standalone check readers and signature capture devices. When an intrusion is detected, an alarm is issued by the STM1403/1404 device. Once the alarm is received by the system it can immediately initiate a process to “zeroize” the cryptographic keys in volatile SRAM to prevent the intruder from gaining access to them. The high security module is thus rendered non-functional, until shipped back to the factory for diagnostic tests and re-coding. This reference layout can help designers focus their time and resources on developing critical and differentiating features, rather than worrying if adding ESD protection will affect HDMI performance. The reference layout has been tested and meets the HDMI 1.3 requirements at the highest speed – 3.4GHz, with margin. A reference layout that can pass HDMI at 3.4GHz is important not only for designers building next generation computer monitors, video cards, and video screens; the 3.4GHz design also provides board margin, relaxes design constraints, and can often lower board cost of lower speed HDMI 1.3 capable designs. @ http://www.circuitprotection.com Tyco Electronics’ Reference Layout Key Features: • • • • • • • • • Tested and meets HDMI 1.3 requirements at 3.4GHz Backward compatible with HDMI 1.0 – 1.2 Validated with full test board performance including the HDMI connector, and connector mating to an HDMI plug Includes optional overcurrent protection for the +5V rail (applicable to HDMI transmitters) Full HDMI 1.3 test results available including time domain reflectometry (TDR), eye diagram, and far-end crosstalk measurements /D\RXWGHVLJQ¿OHV3(6'63,&(PRGHODQGWHVWUHVXOWVDYDLODEOHRQUHTXHVW +HOSVSDVV,(&(6'SURWHFWLRQVSHFL¿FDWLRQ +/-15kV (air), +/-8kV (contact) Utilizes Tyco Electronics’ low-capacitance (0.25pF) PESD device for ESD protection Utilizes Tyco Electronics’ nanoSMD for overcurrent protection on the +5V rail 21 BsspxUjnft!!!!!! This article describes the mobile TV market from four aspects: increasing demand, successful promotion in Asia, the technology FKDOOHQJHVLWSRVHVDQGLWVEULJKWIXWXUH%HVLGHVORZHUFRVWDQGVPDOOHUVL]HWHFKQRORJ\ FKDOOHQJHVDOVRLQFOXGHORZHUSRZHUFRQVXPSWLRQHQKDQFHGÀH[LELOLW\DQGEHWWHUVHQVLWLYLW\ 7KH5)WXQHUE\$',DQGPXOWLPHGLDSODWIRUPE\67DUHXVHGDVH[DPSOHVWRLOOXVWUDWHKRZ VROXWLRQSURYLGHUVPHHWDQGH[FHHGWKHVHUHTXLUHPHQWV With the launch of the STiMi standard and mobile TV programs from CCTV (China Central Television), mobile TV ¿UVWFDPHLQWRWKHGDLO\OLYHVRI&KLQHVH consumers. In cooperation with domestic mobile carriers, CCTV is now broadcasting more than 400 featured programs through mobile phones. face also are increasing. A range of problems can affect the entire supply chain, from the interoperability of components, business models and related policies, to cost control, such as the cost of deploying a network, providing content, making special video formats and manufacturing chipsets. Increasing Demand For Chinese consumers, watching TV through handsets is a new experience. However, in Korea, S/T-DMB service has been deployed since 2005, attracting more than 4 million mobile TV users in less than 2 years. In Japan, mobile TV has attracted more than 5 million users since the service was made available in 2006. In Korea, where mobile TV has already become very popular, it took three years to establish an effective supply chain. A Korean specialist said, “Along with Korean consumers’ early-adoptive tendency to get new things, Korean IT industries have competitively developed new chipsets and terminals for mobile TV. However, a big challenge in most regions is that broadcasters are not willing to deploy the infrastructure until they can figure out a viable business model. This is a key issue to resolve in order to create a robust mobile TV industry.” People increasingly are enthusiastic about viewing mobile TV broadcasts, not only through handsets, but also through their PDAs, PMPs or GPS. This growing popularity has portable device providers, content providers, carriers and chipset providers paying more attention to the end application. In Korea, for example, more than 50% of Korean domestic mobile handsets will have built-in mobile TV functionality in 2007. Successful Promotion in Asia While the popularity of mobile TV grows, the design challenges manufacturers More technology challenges For chipset providers, mobile TV poses new technology challenges, questions, and choices: • Two-chip infrastructure (including baseband processor and multimedia processor) or not? • Which baseband standard: EDGE, GSM/GPRS or TD-SCDMA? • Which audio format: H.264 or MPEG4? • Which mobile TV standard: S/ T-DMB, DVB-H or Media FLO? Compared with other applications, mobile TV requires lower power consumption, enhanced flexibility and better sensitivity. The Fifth Media In China, there are many hurdles the industry must surmount in order to develop a robust mobile TV market. However, these obstacles will soon be UHPRYHGXQGHUWKHLQÀXHQFHVRI%HLMLQJ Olympic Game in 2008. The discussion of mobile TV standards has been a hot topic for a long time. Some experts believe there won’t be one universal standard. No matter the business model, which standards are employed, no one argues that mobile TV will become very popular in the near future. Informa Telecoms and Media forecast, by 2010, the number of worldwide mobile TV users will be higher than 100 million. The future of mobile TV is bright and will become known as “the 5th media” DVLQÀXHQWLDODQGOLIHFKDQJLQJDVWKH advent of each of its predecessors: newspaper, radio, television and the Internet. @ http://www.analog.com franchised locations 24 BsspxUjnft!!!!!! Essentially the charge stored on a floating gate cell is set precisely in manufacturing. The reference voltage output itself is a buffered version of the floating gate voltage. The resulting reference device has excellent characteristics which are unique in the industry: very low temperature drift, high initial accuracy, and almost zero supply current. Also, the reference voltage itself is not limited by voltage bandgaps or zener settings, so a wide range of reference voltages can be programmed (standard voltage settings are provided, but customer-specific voltages are available). The process used for these reference devices is a floating gate CMOS process, and the amplifier circuitry uses CMOS transistors for amplifier and output transistor circuitry. While providing excellent accuracy, there are limitations in output noise level and load regulation due to the MOS device characteristics. Micropower Operation The ISL21009 consumes extremely low supply current due to the proprietary FGA technology. Low noise performance is achieved using optimized biasing techniques. Supply current is typically 95μA and noise is 933EHQH¿WLQJSUHFLVLRQORZQRLVH portable applications such as handheld meters and instruments. Board Mounting Considerations It is normally best to place the device near the edge of a board, or the shortest side, as the axis of bending is most limited at that location. Mounting the device in a cutout also minimizes ÀH[2EYLRXVO\PRXQWLQJWKHGHYLFHRQ ÀH[SULQWRUH[WUHPHO\WKLQ3&PDWHULDO will likewise cause loss of reference accuracy. Noise Performance and Reduction The output noise voltage in a 0.1Hz to 10Hz bandwidth is typically 4μVP-P. Noise in the 10kHz to 1MHz bandwidth is approximately 40μVP-P with no capacitance on the output. Noise can be reduced to less than 20μVP-P from 1Hz to 1MHz using this network with a 0.01μF capacitor and D N UHVLVWRU LQ VHULHV ZLWK D ) capacitor. Turn-On Time The ISL21009 devices have low supply current and thus the time to bias up internal circuitry to fi nal values will be longer than with higher power references. Normal turn-on time is typically 100μs. Circuit design must take this into account when looking at power up delays or sequencing. 7HPSHUDWXUH&RHI¿FLHQW The overwhelming standard for specifying the temperature drift of a reference is to measure the reference 26 BsspxUjnft!!!!!! Opw!3118 !!! voltage at two temperatures, take the total variation, (VHIGH – VLOW), and divide by the temperature extremes of measurement (THIGH – TLOW). The result is divided by the nominal reference voltage (at T = +25°C) and multiplied by 106 to yield ppm/°C. Maximum input offset voltage of the LTC6102 is only 10uV and it can accept differential sense voltages up to 2V. The resulting 106dB of dynamic range allows the LTC6102 to resolve micro-amps from amps of current. Compared to other current sense amplifiers, the dramatically lower offset of the LTC6102 allows for proportionately lower sense resistance without sacrificing resolution. Lower sense resistance means less wasted power and heat. The precision of the LTC6102 is bolstered by a near zero guaranteed input offset drift of less than 50nV/°C and a guaranteed input bias current of less than 3nA. External resistors, selected by the designer, determine gain, gain accuracy and gain drift, and using precision resistors enables gain accuracy better than 99%. The topology of the LTC6102 allows the designer to customize power consumption, response time and the input/output impedance characteristics for the application. Furthermore, the LTC6102 has a 1us response time, allowing it to initiate fault protection or power shutdown in the event of unexpected load or supply current surges. • • • • • • • • Two versions provide the choice of common mode voltage: the LTC6102 operates with inputs up to 70V, and the LTC6102HV operates with inputs up to 105V. From the most recent cell phones and slim MP3 players, the biggest wave is very large screens and very thin packaging. For a device like Apple’s “iPhone,” the display is nearly as big as the device and to make the package thin, the electronics must be kept extremely thin to allow the package to be thin. For large capacitance values, the MLCC structures are required to be thicker to allow for large numbers of stacked layers to achieve these capacitances. For audio and battery decoupling applications, the piezoelectric effect is getting stronger with GHFUHDVLQJOD\HUWKLFNQHVVDQGWKHYROWDJHFRHI¿FLHQWVDUHVR high that capacitance loss under bias can be as high as 30% to 70% of the nameplate values. For these applications, an alternative type of capacitor is the tantalum or conductive polymer capacitors as they exhibit neither of these characteristics; but with the thinning requirements, the standard EIA case sizes will not be acceptable. The products being created to meet this thinning requirement will still utilize the length and width dimensions specified by the original EIA dimensions, but the heights are being reduced dramatically. All of these devices utilize the facedown termination designs to optimize the volumetric efficiency of this package. The drawing and table below show the physical dimensions of this chip. The 7343 requires special termination pads (three pads WREDODQFHWKHVROGHUEXWWKHRWKHUVL]HVZHUHFUHDWHGWR¿WRQH[LVWLQJ(,$SDG geometries for their sizes. The facedown package creates lower ESL (equivalent series inductance) and higher power capability than the standard leadframe assembly does, but the primary reason for the selection in these applications is capacitance in the package. Capacitance values range as high as 100 uF for the “I” case, 330 uF for the “M” case, and 470 uF for the “Z” case. ESR (equivalent series resistance) is not critical in audio circuits or this low energy decoupling and is are about 150 milliohms for the “I” case, 200 milliohms for the “M” case, and 9 milliohms for the “Z” case.
