What makes Spring spring? If it’s this spring, I imagine the bar’s been
set quite low—no more snowstorms would suffice. Traditionally, a few other
things jump to mind. Pretty. As in butterflies, new green shoots and vibrantly
plumed, twittering songbirds. Then there’s that larger, heavy-billed avian
with its more serious business and precious cargo—the predictable upshot
of the stork being that other big spring symbol: babies. This might be why
rebirth and renewal are also big spring things. And what better metaphor
for renewal than flowers? I’ve heard them described in more elegant terms
but (and I think this is apropos after such a dreadful winter) I sometimes
think of flowers as nature’s feather boas: fun, bold pops of color that you
throw over the drab to embrace the fab.
This InSKIN’s got all the right springredients, starting with heaping portions
of pretty and color and new and fab. We launch our Skintelligent Beauty Lip
Gloss (page 7) which, besides coming in fifteen gorgeous, gleaming shades,

As in many companies, spring is a big review-and-planing period for VMV. While this is exciting, there’s an
element of panic—we do set lofty goals. Reviewing the skinthusiasm that we’ve received in the past year
(page 3 and all over this issue) is a welcome smile-and-”awww”-inducing moment (talk about renewing!).
We helped some really wonderful people in some really meaningful ways. It’s kind, it’s nice, it’s reassuring

We regularly share a sampling of each year’s most notable skinthusiasm not just to show
off (although yes, for that, too...yay!) but also to thank and celebrate. So many on our team
deserve the annoying-proud-parent-with-brag-book-at-dinner hoopla for their constant aboveand-beyondness. Not to recognize the fruits of their brilliant (and caffeine-fueled) efforts would
be downright rude and just so unlike us. Then there’s our friends in the press. Besieged by breaking
news, countless launches, deadlines and the difficult task of selecting the best products for their readers
and viewers—that they would lend us an ear is privilege enough; that they would judge us worthy of their
sharing is a true honor. And that the exacting industry leaders at Cosmetic Executive Women would deem

I was truly devastated when my
patch test showed how many basic
