Protecting Our Members Online Security Protecting our member’s online security and financial information is very important to HFS Federal Credit Union and we work hard to employ the latest in internet security technology to prevent unauthorized users from accessing our systems. Protecting your financial information starts with ensuring that when logging onto the credit union’s online banking service, you will be accessing your financial information through a secure 128-bit encrypted connection that also employs Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology. What this means is that during your online banking session, all information is encrypted or disguised, thus protecting it if it were to be intercepted. In addition to the technologies listed above, the credit union utilizes multi-factor authentication combined with your account number and password to provide additional layers of security. What is multi factor authentication (MFA)? MFA is a series of technology tools used to validate the identity of accountholders remotely accessing the credit union’s online banking service. One of these tools is a unique personal message and image created by you which is displayed each time you login to help ensure you are signing on to a legitimate HFS Online Banking website. Another tool is a feature that tracks the computer you typically use to access your account. If you log in using a different computer you’ll notice some additional security measures. We may ask you some questions to verify your identity before allowing you to sign on. With these extra layers of security in place, your account information has added protection. State of the art software and employing various security technologies provide you with a safe and secure way to conduct your financial transactions. However, one of the most important things an individual can do is to always make sure they “log out” when finished accessing their accounts. Of course everyone forgets sometimes, and when you do, HFS will automatically log you out after 10 minutes of inactivity. Visiting the credit union’s website Along with ensuring your financial information is protected, another thing to take into consideration is what the credit union’s policy is on monitoring your activity while visiting our web site. As a visitor to HFS Federal Credit Union’s web site, you will remain anonymous and personal information will not be collected. Only non-identifying information about visits to the site such as date, time visited, and browser type may be collected. This information will be used only to compile data about our sites daily use and activity. If personal identifying information is provided by you and sent via e-mail, such as name and email address, it will be used as a way to communicate with you and to allow us to assist you with any request that you may have. Personal and identifying information are neither sold nor given to other parties. Protecting your privacy is important to us and we are committed in maintaining that privacy. Disclosing your personal information The credit union will NEVER call, email, or otherwise contact you and ask you to disclose sensitive financial information. We already have your information and will not ask for it.
