Blind Doberman adopted after
report in Anna Nagar Times

Following the report in Anna Nagar Times last week, a 3-year-old
blind Doberman male dog was adopted by Aneesh and his family from
Kolappakam (Kancheepuram District).
A Good Samaritan and dog lover had earlier adopted the blind dog
at birth. After he passed away recently, it had been abandoned by the
other family members.
It was rescued by Jayashree (an animal activist) and was handed
over to a dog lover in AD Block, Anna Nagar for temporary care.
Aneesh’s friend from Mogappair passed on the information to him
after reading the news in Anna Nagar Times. Anessh, who has a house
in Ashok Nagar, also got the information from his neighbor after he
read it in Mambalam Times, a sister publication of Anna Nagar
Times. Aneesh had a pet dog earlier which had recently passed away
and he was very happy to adopt the blind dog.
Jayashree has thanked Aneesh for adopting the dog and Anna
Nagar Times for publishing the appeal.

58.61% vote in Anna Nagar, 54% in
Villivakkam

In spite of the massive campaign undertaken by the Election
Commission, private agencies and major political parties, the voter
turnout in Anna Nagar constituency was only 58.61%, which was just
1.61% more than the city average of 57% but 15.15% lower than the
State average of 73.76%.
Villivakkam constituency recorded the second lowest average of
54% in the city after Harbour which recorded 53%.
An EC official told Anna Nagar Times that the weather was
pleasant on voting day of May 16 so it was surprising that the voter
turnout in the city was so low.

S. Azhagiya Perumal (resident of Officers Colony,
Mogappair) passed away on May 14.
He was 63, and had been a resident of Mogappair for
more than 5 years.
He was a businessman.

on May 18.
He was 66, and had been a resident of Aminjikarai
since birth. He was a landlord. He is survived by his
wife, son Yogesh, daughter and son in law.

Anna Nagar) passed away on May 5.
She was 86, and had been a long time resident of Anna
Nagar. She worked as a teacher for a short time and was
a prolific writer of short stories in Tamil. She was the wife of late Dr. K.
Chandrasekharan (Professor of Chemical Engineering, Anna University).
She is survived by her daughter C. Vamsadhara (Retd. Director of Medical
Education), son C. Venkatesh Kumar (VP, Reliance Industries), grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.

All other candidates lost their deposits.

In the 174 constituencies in which AIADMK and DMK contested directly against each
other, DMK won in 89 while the AIADMK won only in 85.
It was in the other 58 constituencies, in which AIADMK contested against DMK’s
alliance partners including 41 Congressmen, that AIADMK won in as many as 49.
This is what resulted in the final tally of 134 for AIADMK against 98 for the DMK
alliance.

The author has translated 42 speeches delivered by
renowned world leaders from 16th Century till date including
the likes of Mahatma Gandhi and Barack Obama and compiled
them as a book.
He told Anna Nagar Times that the proceeds from the sales
will be utilized to assist needy students pursuing higher
studies. He also has plans to recite these speeches to educate
youth in motivational training programs to be held in schools
and colleges. This is the third book written by Marimuthu.

popular play ‘Yaar Paiyan’ at

‘Yaar Paiyan’ is a story

In a bizarre accident, 53year-old Nalini (a Railway
employee and differentlyabled) and her 65-year-old
husband Govindhan (an
autorickshaw driver) were
electrocuted to death during
the early hours of May 17 in
West Mogappair when they
stepped on a puddle of rain
water in which a snapped
overhead live EB cable was
lying.
Nalini was returning home
with her husband after
discharging her poll duty in
Tiruttani on May 16.
The incident occurred at
around 4 a.m when the couple
reached the 1st Block in West
Mogappair where they lived.
They got down from the
vehicle and accidentally stepped on a puddle of water
through which a live electric
wire was passing.
The couple was rushed to
Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, where doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.
According to the police, the
cable had snapped when a
window frame that was used
to cover an overhead water
tank on an adjacent building
had fallen on it during the
rain and wind earlier in the
night.
EB workers immediately
rushed to the spot to cut off
power to the cable to prevent
any further such mishaps.
The deceased couple is
survived by their son Ramesh
(32) and daughter Saraswathy
(29).

‘Generation Gap’, new book on elders

‘Generation Gap’, a book on elders jointly authored by Dr. V. S. Natarajan (Geriatrician and resident
of Q16, Q Block 17th Street, Anna Nagar) and Hema Narasimhan (Chennai), was released at a function
held in Vani Mahal, T. Nagar on May 18.
The 136 pages book is priced Rs.100. The book narrates real life stories of elderly parents neglected
by their kith and kin, and includes advice on health care for elderly widows, tips on writing a will, need
for a law to protect elders.
It also gives details of Dr.
Natarajan’s geriatric house
call project.
Dr. Natarajan is a member
of National Council for Older
Persons (NCOP) set up by the
Government of India.
He is a Padma Shri awardee
and has authored more than
30 books on geriatric health
and care.
Hema is banking professional and writes and translates books in her spare
time.

(Thiruverkadu) which is run by Udavum Karangal (NGO with
office in 460, 25th Street, NSK Nagar, Arumbakkam) has produced
100% pass result in the Std. 12 State Board exams conducted in
March, the results of which were declared on May 17.
All the 95 girl students who appeared for the exams passed out.
The school is co-educational up to Std. 10.
The school toppers were G. Deivanai (1141/1200), G. Subhathra
(1135) and S. P. Sivasakthi (1104).

Sub Inspector dies in road accident

55-year-old Sub-Inspector Basheer (a resident of Anna Nagar
Police Quarters) died on the spot when he was run over by a Corporation garbage lorry at around 9 a.m on May 15 near Choolai Post Office.
He was working in the security branch of the State Police.
According to the police, his bike was hit from behind when he slowed
down to avoid a MTC bus coming in the opposite direction. He lost his
balance and fell down and got crushed under the wheels of the lorry.
Basheer was living alone in Chennai. His wife, who is s nurse, lives
with their son and a daughter in Kerala.
