With its innovative technology, unique design, usability, and added-value, S amsung Electronics has contributed to today's digital revolution, and continues to release new products that not only meet current customer needs but also forecast future demand, leading the global digital market. It has also been actively participating in corporate social responsibility activities through sports event sponsorship, and culture and research grants with a view to getting closer to customers. Summary Samsung Electronics has integrated all its domestic sites into a single wireless network to establish the world's largest mobile office, allowing its entire staff (about 80,000 employees) to use FMC-enabled PBX services. In addition to providing convenient smart-device services onsite, the FMC solution interoperates with the IP-PBX to offer economic viability by reducing costs in telecommunications by more than 30% on average. In particular, the FMC Client (mobile softphone) is an ideal match for products in the Galaxy series, which are equipped with a B2B-optimized voice engine to provide the highest quality of service. The Wireless Intrusion Prevention System (WIPS), Mobile Device Management (MDM), integrated mobile authentication, and SSL VPN are also included to enhance security in internal wireless data communications. Background Acronyms •WIPS : Wireless Intrusion Prevention System •MDM : Master Data Management •SSL : Secure Socket Layer •VPN : Virtual Private Network Onsite telecommunication systems have continued to progress with the landline, but lagged over the years due to space constraints and technical barriers. With the advance of mobile communications and the emergence of smart phones and tablet PCs, companies are faced with a need to secure mobility for voice, as well as work data, communication. To resolve these challenges, Samsung Electronics has decided to introduce FMC after conducting a careful cost-benefit analysis on WLAN infrastructure and wireless security solutions. It expects to experience enhanced work efficiency yet reduced expenses. Starting with FMC, it plans to complete the mobile office environment promptly, as business processes gradually become mobile. Samsung Electronics Beyond Communication, Samsung Smart Enterpeise Samsung Electronics FMC, the World's Largest Case Study A Way to Work Smart and Communicate Effectively How FMC is Built Components IP-PBX ·SCM Phone ·FMC Client (Galaxy S, Galaxy S2, Galaxy Tab) 부가장비 ·WLAN Infra (AP, APC) What is FMC? Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) is a technological convergence of wired and wireless services, which allows seamless communications using smart devices in Wi-Fi (WLAN) environments. FMC remarkably reduces communication costs, as a smart device can be used as an interphone by connecting to the wireless network onsite, or it can be used as an extension phone on the public network by interoperating with the PBX. It can also be expanded to serve households through the Internet Telephony Service Provider (ITSP) if the environment allows. Starting with a WLAN infrastructure (AP: Access Point and APC: Access Point Controller), Samsung Electronics has established an expanded implementation plan to cover an IP-PBX voice infrastructure, optimized mobile security solutions, FMC services, groupware and internal information processing. The WLAN infrastructure is optimized for voice services as the onsite voice-oriented mobile environment is ideal for any type of service. An analysis using specialized equipment was performed to assess the business environment, and determine the location and number of access points (within a 20 m radius at over -67 dBM). The smart devices (the Galaxy series) are also equipped with an engine designed to improve the quality of incoming and outgoing calls. The FMC Client creates environment where the smart device can be used as an extension phone by linking to the IP-PBX or as a home phone by linking to the ITSP. It is also enhance usability by providing an integrated dialer to choose between either 3G or VoIP. The required component IP-PBX is built to cut costs by more than 30% with smart routing (which allows a call made on the public network to be routed to the internal phone line when the smart device is traced onsite) and to provide various special features, such as WLAN-WCDMA roaming and simultaneous call reception on wired/wireless terminals. For internal wireless data communications, solutions such as WIPS, MDM, integrated mobile authentication, and SSL VPN have been implemented to provide security and reliability. The Wireless Intrusion Prevention System (WIPS) checks signals coming from the location in which an AP is installed and compares it with the MAC address to detect and block unauthenticated APs. The Mobile Device Management (MDM) controls the smart device's Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and camera features, while locking the password when the device is stolen or lost to deny access to the internal system. Benefit FMC Client ·Softphone applied to Galaxy →Galaxy S/K/U/Tab ·Integrated dialer (WCDMA+WLAN) ·Smart device transfer →Call transfer based on the reg. status,Forced call transfer etc. Samsung Electronics has integrated eight networks from across the country to provide subscribers with the same services regardless of the site they belong to. FMC has helped reduce personal costs in telecommunication, and the business has also successfully cut overall costs through smart routing. These results can translate into work efficiency, and the company is expected to have a full return on investment in one to two years. (The projection is based on information from the internal ROI analysis tool.) With FMC services implemented, the staff can use their smart devices anywhere anytime to continue with their work. The company can also secure an infrastructure that supports limitless mobile content for work purposes without having to worry about information leaks thanks to enhanced security solutions. www.samsungNetwork.com
