RESPONSIBLE TO:
IMT Director
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
Overall responsibility for all activities that support development planning, and the
provision of Project Management resource. Responsible for the overall delivery of
IMT Projects and the IMT Programme. Support the Director of IMT in the setting and
maintenance of policy and strategy.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Head of IMT Programme must at all times seek to achieve the highest standards
of professional behaviour in dealing with clients/users, colleagues, staff, suppliers and
other external bodies.
The Head of IMT Programme will be expected to:1.
Be a member of the IMT Management Team and contribute to the overall
management of IMT in English Heritage.
2.
Be accountable for the effective management of IMT projects for English
Heritage, both internally and externally developed.
3.
Gain approvals from the IS Programme Board before committing any IMT
resource (internal or external) to new projects and for the constitution for
Project Boards.
4.
Provide Monthly Progress and Budget Reports to the IS Programme Board,
highlighting any areas of concern.
5.
Provide Project Managers to work on approved projects.
6.
Promote the agreed project management methodology (PRINCE 2) within the
organisation and provide information on PRINCE 2 to all Project Board
Members of IMT projects.

7.
Line manage allocated resources and their assessment, training and
development, including Programme Managers, Project Managers and the
Programme Management Office.
8.
Defining training requirements for all project staff, encouraging professional
development where appropriate.
9.
Work with the Head of IMT Operations, Head of IMT Special Projects, Head
of IMT Development and the Corporate GIS Manager to assess requests for
new projects and provide the IMT required for English Heritage to work
effectively.
10.
Member of the Impact Assessment Board, ensuring proposed IMT Projects
meet technology requirements of English Heritage.
11.
Managing staff related and projects budgets as required.
12.
Manage the IMT Programme Budget (typically in excess of £1m)
13.
Keeping up to date with current and future technologies, encouraging research
into technologies that appear to have the potential to be useful in supporting
English Heritage business objectives.
14.
Perform other tasks as directed by the Director of IMT
15.
To comply with the requirements of the English Heritage Staff Code of
Conduct, the Employee Handbook, the Finance Manual and Fact files.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
ESSENTIAL
DESIRABLE
TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
PRINCE2 Practitioner
Significant ICT experience, with experience as a
team leader / manager in a project environment.
Recognised qualifications in an ICT-related
and/or an EH business-related subject
(e.g. degree/HNC/diploma, PRINCE 2/ITIL
certification), and/or membership of a relevant
professional body (e.g. BCS, IFA).
Experience of planning and directing major
projects within a structured lifecycle and using a
structured project management methodology,
preferably PRINCE2, and/or experience of
managing IT services within a structured service
management framework, preferably ITIL.
Experience of the application of ICT technologies
to solve business problems
Experience of managing a Portfolio of ICT
Projects in a challenging environment.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Excellent verbal and written communication
skills.
Reasonable understanding of basic Network
principles
Experience of planning and directing major
projects within a structured lifecycle and using a
structured project management methodology,
preferably PRINCE2.
Knowledge of a range of hardware, covering
desktop and servers
Experience of the use of Internet technologies to
solve business problems
Understanding of the role, structure and business
of English Heritage.
