Description
Key Features
The Hyperdrive CAN BMS module
is a high-specification battery
management system for up to 12
battery cells in series. The CAN BMS
has an on-board CAN bus interface
which allows it to communicate with
other CAN BMS modules, enabling
up to 255 to be daisy-chained
together for use on large series
battery installations.

CAN-BMS
Applications
The Modular CAN-BMS is designed to operate
in a range of different configurations to suit the
particular application.
Basic Single-Pack
The most basic configuration of the CAN-BMS is
as a stand alone battery management system for
a single cell-pack.
The cell pack can contain anywhere between
3 and 12 identical cells. The CAN-BMS can be
powered by the battery pack or by a separate
9-40VDC power supply.
Multiple Battery Packs – Master/Slave
System
If the battery pack has more cells than can be
managed by a single CAN-BMS, it is possible to
daisy-chain several units together.
The CAN-BMS modules can be configured as
masters or slaves during the programming phase,
or by selection of specific resistor values which
relate to predefined CAN addresses within the
standard firmware.
The only practical limits on the number of
modules that can be connected in this way are
the CAN bus capacity and the voltage isolation
limits on the CAN-BMS boards.

Connectors and Enclosure
The standard CAN-BMS is designed to be
mounted in the battery pack but can also be
connected through a flylead arrangement to
a remote location. The resistor board can be
mounted directly to the board.
